you are thinking about Bar Harbor that is limiting cruise ships. i can not find anything about Newport doing the same thing
Newport is a tender port, if the weather is not right for tendering the port will be skipped
One of the people posting cruise news stories reported on it a few weeks ago. Today a city in Turkey and a very popular city (very long name) in Iceland. Sandroni Greece has been added to the list as well as Sitka and Juneau Alaska. The list seems to get longer and longer.

It didn’t say which is why I everyone is wondering. It said given recent guest feedback and too accommodate certain circumstances including but not limited to port availability, fuel optimization and our commitment to environment and sustainability and maritime regulations. So what reason do you get from that goobly gook? There are valid reasons to cancel ports and if there was a valid reason it should be communicated. My guess is the reason is likely not valid which is why they aren’t communicating it.
Newport along with a number of ports of call around the world are beginning to limit the number of cruise ships that can be docked at one time. Very much a recurring theme at the moment.

How many ships are docking or tendering that particular day? Many ports of call seem to be limiting the number of cruise ships and their passengers on a day by day basis.

Sunday of Labor Day weekend-- huge community events and too many cruise ships and passengers probably. One of many communities trying to reduce the number of cruise ships and their passengers.

No more than I am, just a simple boat mechanic.
You just made me laugh. Chief Engineer Oystein Undrum would say the same thing about himself. There is nothing simple about either one of you.
Prayers as always, Sir for you and your family.

Yeah, looked her up, Lindsey Smith. She was hired by NCL as a third engineer, as one of the original Pride of America crew. She actually made it to the shipyard, I was due to fly out to Germany the day the ship sank at the dock, so everyone was transferred to the Pride of Aloha (Norwegian Sky) for familiarization and reflagging. She has spent nearly her entire career with NCL, and on the POA in particular. While for senior engineers (Chief, Staff Chief, First) longevity on the ship leads to a lot of institutional knowledge and consistent maintenance, junior engineers can benefit from experiences on other ships and types of ships. Having said that, Linds was a good engineer.
Thank You She must be an amazing person.

The only times you really see passengers dressed formally (and then only a few) Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve.
A couple of restaurants require long pants, collared shirts and closed toed shoes for gentlemen.
Relax and enjoy this special time with your family. Kids seem to grow up very quickly. Where does time go?
Read your Freestyle Daily each day and plan as much or as little as you wish.

What kind of maintenance? Are you talking about the appearance of the hotel areas, or things that don't work in the hotel? Or, the actual maintenance of the ship's systems? If you mean the latter, then I would ask your qualifications to make that statement, and your ability to determine what has caused the problem, and how you know the state of the ship's equipment.
You are not new to CC, so you must have seen any of the numerous threads, across virtually every forum, many that I have responded to, regarding technical problems that either cancel cruises, delay ports, slow ships down, cause itinerary changes, or even require emergency dry dockings, and so on. It happens to every cruise line, and I would say that over the life of every cruise ship, it has happened more than once.
According to the DNV database, yes, the POA is due for dry docking in June.
.I'm not sure anymore (I've been gone for quite a while), but if it who I think it is, I trained her when she was a junior engineer on the Pride of Aloha.
I don't recall the POA having any "propulsion" problems (if that is what this is, don't know any details), over the 20 years of her career. She did "tow" a buoy, chain and concrete anchor from Honolulu to Maui during her first year or two of operation, and that did cause some problems with delays in getting that unwrapped from the prop in Maui, but since she does so little time steaming on this itinerary, and most of it is relatively moderate speed, her propulsion system is never really stressed.
Chief,
A few weeks ago there was a story and pictures of her posted on another social media website. Picture with her was David Herrera, Harry Sommers other Senior Corporate Officials. General Manager Steven Jacobsen was on vacation at the time.

I would bet that @chengkp75 does.
I was thinking the same thing: @chengkp75 would know or would have a very educated guess. I am not sure about this particular cruise, but on of the Chief Engineers on the Pride is lady. There was a story on a different website posted about her.

A note for you: If my friend Manoel D'Silva is onboard as the Restaurant Manager, he is celebrating 26 years with NCL.

Did anything in the Tour truly stand out or amaze you?
Thank you for sharing.

The website still allows you to book Port Valet for NCL cruises. I just booked mine for our cruise on the Encore in July and everything went through fine. Hopefully it won't be cancelled like the OP's reservation, but if NCL was not participating this year you would think it would be disabled on the Port Valet site.
As I have said before, RIGHT NOW the Port of Seattle only has ONE cruise ship through this weekend. Beginning next there will be cruise ships every Saturday and Sunday (2 or 3) plus several during the week. With ONE cruise ship might not be cost effective to run the Valet Program (remember the Port Valet Program is run with taxpayer money).

Do you know who the Senior Hotel and Bridge Officers are.
I hope the rest of your cruise goes well.
Thank you for sharing your adventure.

When I am ready to book a cruise, I always check the website deck plans and choose a cabin with NO public spaces above or below me and as close to the middle of the ship as possible (much smoother ride most of the time).
The Sun is a unique small ship.
Enjoy your cruise

I have another question for those who have sailed on the Norwegian Sun. We are currently booked in an aft cabin on Deck 8 that appears to be directly above the Theatre. Has anyone traveled in one of these cabins previously and can you share your experience with noise level? My research showed there may be shows in the theater at 7:30 and again at 9:30. Thanks in advance for any advice, experience or input you can provide.
Remember that rehearses take place during the day for the various shows. Might be noticeable and might not be.

If you plan to take the train excursion out of Skagway to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada you will need a passport.
I had to fly home once from Victoria, British Columbia-- passport required.
Yes it is a closed loop cruise but you might just need a passport.

Just show up. One of the main dining rooms is just off of the forward elevator in the lobby.

Sadly, no. Apparently nobody arranged a CC Meet & Greet and with this being only our 3rd NCL cruise I did not feel "qualified". Perhaps there was one...but it was not publicized on our roll call.
I hope you folks are having a wonderful cruise.
The Spirit is a wonderful ship. Would love to sail on Her once again.

Have you folks met any of the Senior Officers?

When is your next grand adventure?
I hope all is well in your world.

For anyone contemplating this itinerary...be sure and bring plenty of T-shirt type tops & such. We've done our share of Caribbean cruises...but I just don't remember it being anywhere near as hot! We're only able to wear a set of clothes for a single day before needing laundry done! And it's a heck of a lot more expensive on NCL than the other lines we've sailed. Our first bag of basically t-shirts, shorts and underwear ran $54.00, and there was not anything that needed "special" attention. Bring as many as you can handle but be prepared for at least a couple of laundry charges. (We don't have any special loyalty levels...so we don't have any laundry perks.)
On your cruise there should be at least ONE "Fill The Bag" for one price on your cruise.
I usually wash one or two items every couple of days in the bathroom sink and hang on the towel racks.
