  1. Getaway has handled everything that has come her way. Handover is the 10th of January. then off She will go- Rotterdam, Southampton, New York City. Three weeks from today She (16 January) will sail from Southampton to NYC. I can not wait to be aboard Her on the 16th.

  2. I would doubt that Carnival pulling out of NYC has much to do with Norwegian's popularity or not. I would guess that it has to do with their bottom line. With all the lawsuits pending, and their unexpected costs over the last couple of years something had to give. Does anyone know the approximate cost for a cruise ship to dock in NYC? I would bet that cost is also going up too.

  3. I love fresh flowers in my cabin while I sail. But I have never sailed with NCL before.

Usually I wait till I am onboard and buy a few flowers at the formalities shop, is there someplace on the Sun to purchase a few flowers,or do I need to purchase them online before we sail?

On my last Sun cruise, I bought flowers from the Restaurant Reservation Desk in the Lobby from Guest Services.

  4. Please try to add a couple of days either before or after your cruise. Seattle is a wonderful city to explore. During the summer of 2014 a lot of the waterfront area will be closed for a major construction project, but there is still lots to see and do. Just north of the Bell Street pier is the Seattle Space Needle left from the 1962 World's Fair. On a clear day, you can see a long way from the Observation Deck. There is a restaurant that revolves 360 degrees the lunch price is not bad, dinner is a different story. Have a great time.

  5. Looking at the Tampa web cam. Is that the Dawn they are giving close ups of.

The ship webcam also shows them still in port.

It's 7pm and the Dawn should have left port at 4pm.

Anyone have any news on this?

Just heard from a friend on the Dawn. Tonight for some reason they are scheduled to sail at 7:45 P.M. They said that there were not any real issues with either disembarkation or embarkation.

  6. I had heard that Matt was the current CD on the Gem?

I guess I will find out on Monday! :D:D

He could be. There are a lot of changes occurring right now getting ready for The Getaway. One of my favorite entertainers is on The Gem. His name in Michael Blackwell. He plays piano without adding anything to it. Sometimes he is in the atrium and other times in Star Bar on Deck 13 across from Cagney's. Have a great cruise.

  7. I heard the cruise director is Julie

    Any thoughts about her

Last year we did not like the CD

I guess when you have sinan it is hard to compare but last year the CD and ACD we terrible

    Cheers!!

Julie is not on The Gem any more. She will be the opening Cruise Director for The Getaway. Dan The Man is the current CD on The Gem.

Sinan is doing a Vacation Relief on The Breakaway.

  8. Thanks for the response gator..that would be perfect but I talked to the event coordinator group and they said that there would be no magic show on board.. Were you sailing on the Gem? My other thoughts were some different shows like a game show or such.. My original plan was to propose on a horse back ride through the jungle in samana with a picnic area set up by a waterfall swimming hole.. Unfortunately Norwegian can not take any food off the boat and there is no area for a private picnic

Another thought might be to talk with Michael Blackwell, who plays piano-some nights in the Star Bar across from Cagney's. He could play a special piece of music for you. He is a very nice gentleman.

  9. My thought would be to talk with the Hotel Director Jenny Lim once you are on board. She may have some really great ideas. She is also a very nice lady. If you want to do this privately, do a special dinner somewhere. I am sure that the Food and Beverage Director or the Restaurant Manger could make very special. Best Wishes.

  10. I can tell you this: I have never been to Europe before, done a Transatlantic crossing or done a Maiden cruise. I am doing all three in January on The Getaway. I can not wait. I have not read anything about The Breakaway that would cause me to cancel this cruise. A lot of the opening Senior Officers of The Breakaway will also open The Getaway. The gentlemen on the Bridge are experienced officers. I would go with an open mind and make your own conclusions. Have a wonderful time.

  11. The Getaway has reached another milestone with the conveyance of the River Ems from Papenburg to the North Sea Port City of Eemshaven. More staff will begin to ready in the next few days. Mini Sea Trails are set for the end of next week.. Progress is being made. I can wait for Her Maiden adventure from Southampton to New York City in January, 61 days and counting.

  12. Does anyone know who are the Captain's and Officers and Key Staff on NCL ships, esp now that the Breakaway has taken some from other ships?

That is a really though question. Yes, a number went from other ships to the Breakaway. Now there is another huge shift including from The Breakaway to the Getaway. Different officers have different rotation schedules which makes keeping track more difficult. Captains, Staff Captains and Chief Engineers are 10 weeks on ship 10 weeks off. Some management like Hotel Directors are 4 months on, 2 months off. Others work 6 months on 2 months off. Just like being in the military, every couple of years staff shift from one ship to another.
