  1. John, I have been thinking of doing either a Jade or Spirit cruise out of Venice. I am a little leery because I am a 67 year old widow who travels alone. Would I be safe in Venice?

I live in the Walla Walla Valley 4 hours up the Columbia River from you folks. It is so foggy this morning, I can not see out my front window to across the street. Winter is here. I loved your review and pictures.

  2. Paul, don't remember his last name. However he was on the Jewel with Hotel Director John O' Hara and Comedian Tim Kaminski Jan, 2010. These 3 people made that the most memorable and fantistic cruise to date. :D They were very special and it was the "little" unexpected things they did.

Paul is not with Norwegian any more and neither is John, sadly.

  3. If you have not been on The Sun before, in the lobby area on a wall is all the pictures of the Senior Staff Officers and Management people. On Tuesday, could someone write all the information down and have it ready to post when you return. I am not sure how many changes will occur on Monday among staff. I know that P-G Nillson is scheduled to board as Staff Captain.

Have a great cruise. The Sun is a wonderful cruise and Alaska equally wonderful.

  4. I would suggest the you contact: AccessDesk@ncl.com

Give them: your name, reservation number, cabin number, the date of your cruise, the ship, medical information:gastric bypass surgery need soft foods. They will contact the ship and will try to accommodate your needs. When you arrive in your cabin there should be a letter from the Dawn's Access Officer.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

  5. Great to see a post from you. If anybody knows NCL it's you. How many chicks do you have on the Dawn? Mike and I are taking our Aunt this Oct. for her 92 birthday. She is going to be thrilled regardless but if she is treated 1/10th. as well as we were on the Gem it will blow her away.

I'm looking for your card you gave me in May.

    Happy 4th. Laura

I do not think that I will have any. Teo will be on vacation until the 1st of November and Noel is supposed to board a new ship (for him) in late August. With all the staff changes taking place in preparation for The Getaway, it is difficult even for me to know who will be where and when.

A lot of my "chicks" will be on The Getaway for her Maiden and Inaugural adventures. I can hardly wait to go to Southampton in January and help bring Her across.

  6. Was your Panama Cruise from Miami to LA and LA to Miami a back to back? I'm thinking of doing this but am worried about all the entertainment being the same on the return.

No, I did the Miami- LA (on to Vancouver B.C.) in April of 2009 on The Pearl. Then in the Fall of 2011, I went from LA to Miami. I much prefer going from LA to Miami- the Crossing is toward the end of the cruise rather than the beginning. Keep in mind that in either direction is a 14 day cruise. I am looking forward to returning in the Fall of 2014, this time from Vancouver, B.C. to Tampa Bay, Florida.

  7. I have done two Alaskan cruises both out of Seattle early in the season. My comment would be to add at least a couple of days on one side of the cruise or the other to see the City of Seattle.

I have done the Panama Cruise twice:(1) Miami to LA and (2) LA to Miami. I am booked on The Sun in October 2014 from LA to Miami again. Late August 2014 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the first ship to pass through the completed Canal.

I have been a widow now almost 6 years and travel solo all the time. 18 cruises completed and 2 more booked.
