  1. You pick your check in time when you book your cruise.

Or any time after that if you cannot figure it out at the moment when you are booking.

I think they should make the checkin times available after final payment due date. This way more ppl will have greater access to a variety of check in times.

Does this apply to the ports that have the airport checkin counters as well?

  2. As of today (July 13) staggered check in is only for Baltimore, Charleston, Galveston, Honolulu, Miami, New Orleans and Norfolk and will be added for Barcelona at the end of the month. If you are sailing Vista from Miami you need to stay tuned as staggered check in will not become available to book until about three months prior to the first cruise.

If you are sailing from a port that has staggered check in, you select your check in window form your booking on the Carnival site.

Thank you this is helpful. I dont think our port (everglades) has this yet.

  3. Didn't see any $500 on AARP, but that's OK. I snagged another $100. Buying $100 a month in gift cards will easily pay off the cruise plus add some on-board credit. And if we book airfare through Carnival, that helps. Only airfare gift card I've seen is Southwest, and Southwest doesn't fly to Cincinnati.

Where do you see the SW gift cards?

  4. This may be a silly question, but what would "weddings" have to do about getting on board the ship? Is this due to people getting off the ship from the previous cruise or wedding groups boarding? Either way, why would that delay the process?

The weddings board first before any diamond platinum or FTTF. There can be up to 3 weddings on embarkation day.

  5. I booked yesterday for my unborn son. We did the Early Saver First Dibs promo, so we did have to provide a name. Luckily, we have this figured out already. The Carnival rep assured me multiple times that I will be allowed to update the birth date after our son is born. He did put a note in for me as well, to help my anxiety lol

I booked my unborn child under ES back when they had the $50 deposit. I listed the baby's name as "Baby , Last name" with it's due date as the DOB. I wanted a very specific room (a 6J on Conquest) for which they only have a few that hold 4 ppl.

In discussing with multiple carnival reps, they said I could update the info when the child is born. However, even if ea rep was wrong, the penalty for the change is only$50 versus not having the room I wanted.

  6. I am toying with the idea of booking a Carnival cruise. We've only done one other cruise and it was on NCL, so the different price structures of Carnival are something I am trying to learn. I understand about the $50 pp penalty to cancel and the holding of the remainder of the deposit ($200 pp) for up to two years.

I thought I understood the benefit of the Early Saver option--if you note a price change you fill out a form and you get the cheaper price if it's before final payment, or OBC if it's after final payment. I'm good with those. :D

In my searches, I just now read that some promotions which would result in a lower fare might require you to cancel your first booking and rebook to get the price difference, and in those cases, you could lose the cabin you first had. I'm guessing that it's a possibility, albeit remote, that it could happen in the few minutes this takes to cancel and rebook.

The reason this would concern me (and probably lessen the benefit of Early Saver for my family) is that I would be booking two rooms--a balcony and an inside, and I wouldn't want my group to be separated if one cabin is relocated and the other isn't.

    So--three questions.

    1. Do I have the basics of Early Saver correct?

    2. In your experience with Early Saver, how often have you had to 'cancel and rebook' versus just 'filling out the form and getting the price decrease'?

    3. If you've had to "cancel and rebook", did you lose the original cabin? (I assume that sometimes, people might want to change their cabin to upgrade or obtain a better location, so I am thinking that the number of people who cancelled and rebooked, "lost" their original cabin and were upset about it is very small, but I figure, I'll ask.)

    Thank you.

    1. Yes.

    2. Never. Just filled out the form. The 'cancel and rebook' only applies if you are trying to match to the guarantee price category. This price cat does not apply to a specific cabin type, just a cabin class (inside, OV, or balcony)

    3. I've never matched to a guarantee because you must give up your room, and I am usually pretty picky about my room type and location.

  7. I always like to do a little something for the group of people who join us on our cruise, but seem to be running out of things to do.

I've done the bags of toiletries, door banners, koozies and tshirts. Does anyone have any suggestions of something I can do for our group? Or should I just resort back to something I've already done?

We did underwater camera's, beach bags and a beach ball with some candy and mints.

  8. I agree with what Springs said except to add that if his name is on the reservation, and you cancel him the $200 can only be used on a furture cruise by HIM (even if you paid for it). So it doesn't matter at this point financially to you. You are not going to get any of that back for your use. You said earlier that there are 3 people in this cabin. SO if he cancels, the other 2 end up paying full fare (as right now one is booked at 3rd person rate). So it boils down to how much MORE you owe at final payment for his fare. If it does not canel out what the extra the 2nd and 3rd person would have to pay due to the 3rd going to a 2nd person in the cabin then leave it as it.

If you can save some money by cancelling him and not having to pay the remainder of his fare then I would wait until final payment (70 days out?) before cancelling to give him time to change his mind so that you don't look like the bad guy (gal). Tell your daughter that if she wants him there she has until final payment date to convince him to deal with the 02 issue (which is solvable since I see o2 tanks on cruise ships all the time) Then you could save a little bit of money by canceling him at final payment. This way it's on your daughter and him and you won't look like the bad guy (or gal in this case) And she will find out for herself how much he wants to be there for her.

The highlighted red part is not true. You can use the future credit if you can prove you paid for it. I had to do that when my husband had to cancel on a cruise.

I do agree with the other PP's that you should wait a little closer to final pmt before doing anything just in case he recovers or has a change of heart. I like what sailor suggested about putting the responsibility on DD and Ex to solve the problem.

  9. I booked Early Saver. And I told his children that if he made me nuts...it was man overboard!

I say cancel him. They won't reprice your booking, they will just make Him the third person rate and you will owe the balance on the first and second rates minus the $50 cancellation fee.

The other downside though is that they may move them to a 2 person cabin so have a location in your back pocket to request when you cancel.

Slight Sidebar: Your ex sounds like an ungrateful, selfish jerk. Good riddance.

  10. As snc cam posted you must be early saver to get OBC. You are sailing in just over a week. We don't want this to turn into another "Carnival wont give me what I am not entitled to thread." If you did book ES you are always early saver. You can upgrade or get OBC. If you are looking to price match it can not be to a price that Carnival picks your room. Best of luck and have a wonderful cruise.

The OP poster is sailing at the end of the month. There is time for the price to drop.

  11. I always book through a TA, to take advantage of the little savings that is really a cut of their commission. It can be a bit tricky to stay on top of it.... especially after final payment is made because when the price adjustment goes in, if they've cut their commission, the OBC won't show up right away. Thus, the TA has to adjust their commissions in the system to get your OBC to work out right!

This is exactly why I never book with a TA. It cuts into thier commission and it always a hassle to get the OBC and ppl end up feeling like Carnival is not trying to hold up their end of the bargain.

Even booking directly with CCL, I have had some small issues with getting OBC, but I now understand the system so I don't let it bother me.

  12. My actual documents didn't change, but they sent me an email, that should it was on my account.

I went back today and looked and there is nothing showing. Only shows in the email they sent.

You have to click where it says 'print your cruise documents'. When the PDF opens, on pg2, it will show the OBC.
