  1. I use the AARP Rewards for Good program to buy mine.

Keep in mind the AARP site requires you to complete surveys' etc to get points. This takes a long time. You need 1000 points to get $100 gift card. So you need to log in at least 3 or 4 days to get that amount of points.

  2. Thanks! That really isn't too bad then in my case because I know I'll be booking something and putting the $600 towards a future cruise payment still works out. I don't want to lose $200 but I also don't want to lose my cabin type.. Decisions..

If your pretty particular about the cabin, I’d book it.

  3. Ok I know this has been covered before, but I want to be absolutely certain I understand..

I have always booked using a reduced deposit or early saver rate, so really it isn't that big of an issue with me. I don't book unless I know we will be cruising and my work is very flexible with vacation. I also get insurance through a 3rd party.

Looking at booking the Vista for next October. My son has his fall break that month every year so it works for us. Currently there is a reduced deposit sale going ($150 for the Vista instead of the $50 on some ships but still less than $250 per person).

I have a courtesy hold on the room I want which happens to be the last left in its category, so I have to make a decision today. Here is my dilemma..

My son's school calendar has been tentatively proposed for the 2018/2019 school year but it isn't yet finalized. There's about a 90-95% change the proposed schedule will pass. My worry is that I'll book today and then fall break will fall on different dates when the official schedule is released. The question is not IF we will cruise, but WHEN. I really don't want to lose my cabin category.. So if I booked today and got locked into the sale terms, would I be able to cancel and rebook for different dates if needed? I know they keep my deposit for a future booking so that isn't an issue, but are there any other "gotchas" that I would need to be aware of?

Sorry for bringing up an often discussed topic but I really want to be sure..

There is the $50 pp cancellation penalty. And the rest of the deposit can only be applied to a future cruise PAYMENT, not deposit.

  4. The second line. You have the first one before you go through the metal detector and put your bags on the XRay machine where they verify who you are. Then you would proceed to the line that snakes around and where you got your cards. The second line is no more. It saves a ton of time. I have had the new way twice - once in March and the other last week. They still do it the old way in PE and had to endure that in August. HATE the old way!

So now the process is show all your documents at the TSA check in, put your stuff through the metal detectors and that’s it? Walk on the ship?

They don’t take your picture for the card?

  5. No- unless you're FTTF or VIP the rooms are not available until 1:30... instead of giving you your S&S cards at check in, the cabin steward will only put the cards in the mail slot by your cabin at 1:30... FTTF or VIP the cards will be in the mailbox as soon as you board.

This changed in the past few months.

*confused* How do you get on the ship or buy any drinks if your S&S card is not given at check in?

  6. I have cruised for thanksgiving and I don’t like the turkey in the MDR. I hear there is Carney turkey in the buffet. The steak house is very very good and worth the upgrade for one night. Since the menu is the same every night, I wouldn’t go thanksgiving night. I would select another night of your cruise to go to the steakhouse.

  7. These might help with the planning. And remember embarkation day weddings need not have all the guests for the ceremony booked, to sail they do allow a limited number of non-sailing "witnesses" for the event and mini reception.

On board and island resort weddings https://www.carnival.com/~/media/CCLUS/Images/pdf/Weddingspricelist

Also other private events can be arranged for those sailing even if the wedding guests do not book as a group:

If the guests book as a group amenity points can possibly be used, have the wedding planner check with the group booking department for specific date ad itinerary availability, http://static2.traveltek.net/images/carnivalmeetings.site.traveltek.net/pdfs/Group_Fun_Points_and_Flexi_Pricing_Directs_02-2013.pdf

Also an on board wish list is available to the couple... https://carnival.honeymoonwishes.com

  8. I got married on the Pride while in port of Baltimore. It was great! I def recommend it for those wanting a small affordable wedding. We had 75 guests and all were non sailing. There is a lot of info on the weddings board and on the carnival.com site.

  9. Yup. I’ve heard it before. Because u didn’t book the spa room originally. Then ur not entitled to the spa passes. It was a upgrade room.

Still a little strange to me but that’s there policy.

That’s why I book it from start. It’s a awesome room.

But why? If someone else books the cat at this lower rate, they are entitled to the privileges. Correct? Why isn’t it the same for the OP?

  10. My sister and her husband are joining us on our impromptu cruise in a few weeks (just booked today). She sent me her booking number and I added her booking to my profile in "my cruise manager". Is that all we need to do to make sure we are linked together so that we are seated together in the MDR?
