  1. @rafinmd Harvest Festival (United Kingdom) Harvest Festival Observed by United Kingdom Type Cultural, religious. Date The Sunday closest to the harvest moon Frequency Annually The Harvest Festival of Thanksgiving is a celebration of the harvest and food grown on the land in the United Kingdom. It is about giving thanks for a successful crop yield over the year as winter starts to approach. The festival is also about giving thanks for all the good and positive things in people's lives, such as family and friendships. Harvest Festivals have traditionally been held in churches but also in schools and sometimes in pubs. Some estates and farms used to hold the harvest festival in a barn. In some towns and villages the harvest festivals are set so that the different churches do not have it on the same day. People bring in produce from their garden, allotment or farm, and even tinned and packaged food. Often there is a Harvest Supper at which some of the produce may be eaten. Typically surplus produce is given away to a local charity, hospital or children's home, or auctioned for charity
  2. @JaneRetired Great idea on 2 of device charges, DH either forgets his or brings the wrong one (shaver charger one time!!) And then uses mine, not a problem if we are in the same room but difficult if we have to quarantine separately. M
  3. Living in So Flo we always make a thermos of coffee before going to bed when a storm is expected, just in case. Also fill the bathtub with water, can be used for flushing!! With a generator you should be fine but during Andrew we lost our generator due to palm trees falling on it. The coffee was greatly appreciated Good luck and keep us informed when you can. Mary.
  4. Me too, going to Europe next month so decided to go for it. Had my first flight since lock down last weekend and finally decided to get the bivalent vaccine even though I really don’t appear to need it to travel,
  5. The last time I took the relocation cruise, a percentage of cruisers actually disembarked in PE to return home. There is a large over 55 community, The Villages, just north of Orlando and there was a large group of cruisers from there on the ship
  6. I put a beach towel on the floor over the cord at night to help with the tripping issue.
  7. Pilchards in tomato sauce on toast was living the good life when I was growing up!!
  8. I lean my phone against a bowl I have on my dining room table.
  9. Sounds like me, I'm not a beer drinker at beach gatherings and bringing a couple of cans to throw in the cooler and get nicely iced works for me.
  10. Love Maeve Binchy. As 1st generation Irish/English/American her books resonate with me on many levels. I feel like I am part of a community and that is special to me.
  11. I live in Hollywood FL and there is more weeds than in previous years. The city is doing a pretty good job of keeping it under control except when high tide is in the morning hours and it's difficult for the tractors to groom the beach, hasn't stopped people swimming though.
  12. I have a cruise tub also it was very useful last month when I got a last minute cruise. Didn't have to go to the store and risk C exposure!
  13. I am currently dog sitting our cousin's dog and was taking him on his morning walk when you posted this. There is an Argentinian bakery across the street and this morning I stopped and picked up some empanadas on our way home. They make really delicious versions and this is my favorite way to "make" them.
  14. @dfish Good luck with the IRS. I owned a condo in LA which I rented out when I returned to Florida to live. When I retired I decided to sell it as I was in a "making my life simpler" frame of mind. Of course I had to pay capital gains tax on the profits and did so as direct withdrawal from my bank account. three months later DH got a notice from the IRS saying no taxes had been paid.(I had owned the condo prior to marriage but we filed jointly). It was a fairly large amount and it took 2 months to get everything straight with the IRS as my payment was not recognized. even though they could see it credited as DH was the considered the primary taxpayer and the money did not come from his account.!!! It was very frustrating but eventually I got to speak with someone who was very helpful and got everything straightened out. Mary
  15. Several posts were apparently deleted prior to the post from host Hattie. They included a second repost of the sermon by Graham's wife and comments about management of the thread. It seems to me that even if someone is reporting the posts they must contain something not permitted by the rules otherwise they would not be deleted. Hopefully we can let this drop now and get back to the supportive and sharing daily we all love.
