  1. Early in our recent 15 day cruise on the Grand the steward told me engineering was going to repair the toilet paper holder, a screw had fallen out. He did, and later that day the new screw was on the floor, I placed it in plain view on the counter. He then put a pop rivet in the hole and it also found it's way to the floor. At that point he gave up. Makes one wonder, we didn't care one way or the other.

  2. We are northbound, we'll be getting off the boat and heading to Kenai as you are getting on.

Here is some information I got from Kenai River Float-n-Fish

The Upper Kenai River opens for fishing on June 11th, so unfortunately there will be no fishing in Cooper

Landing while you are here. There is ocean fishing available out of Seward and Homer for halibut, as well as some river fishing for King Salmon on the Kasilof river. These are all day trips from Cooper Landing and a few hours driving.

    Hope this helps.

They also fish King salmon in the salt water. And if planning to fish salt water, don't overlook Ninilchik, between Soldotna and Homer.

  3. I have made the one at the following link many, many times, and it is just like the one on the ship. Just use good chocolate. Princess uses Guittard brand. Stay away from Hershey's, etc. In a pinch, I have used "Baker's" brand available at most supermarkets and have had great results with it, when I didn't have the time to seek better... but try to.

Guittard sales locations (look for "Baking Bars" on the site):

The above recipe is the classic French recipe for the "Black Beast", the mother of all flourless chocolate tortes/cakes, in this case sourced from Williams-Sonoma.

    Thank you!!!
  4. We had that cabin for our Alaska cruise in Aug. we had a problem with soot on the balcony, bad enough that I left my mark when I came in and sat on the couch. Glad you didn't have that problem.

We enjoyed the cabin otherwise, especially the sound of the wake.

It takes a card in the slot to keep the lights on which can be a small problem if one person is leaving the other in the room, the one leaving has to take his key card and the lights go out after a few minutes. an old keycard would solve that issue.

  5. I'll be in that suite the end of December. hopefully someone will post pictures before that, but if not, I will post when I return. I'm particularly interested in pictures of the balcony.

Balcony is completely uncovered, twice the width or a little more than a regular balcony (20 feet+-), by (6 feet+-). It has two chairs, a table and two loungers.

I have photos but don't know how to post them.

  6. Yes, you do need to make a reservation. Don't forget breakfast at Sabatinis!

That's a very nice perk. You can just Show Up every morning if you want to. You will need your cruise card to identify you as a suite guest. :)

We only had to show the card the first time, they remembered us after that.

Thats the perk we liked best.

  7. Big child,

Just go to the Princess site and act like you are making a booking for a suite or other cabin category. It will then tell you what cabins are available at that time.

For our upgrade, there were 2 suites left and i was good with either. Once she called back, there was just the one left and we said YES.

Thanks for the info. Enjoy your suite!!!

  8. As far as getting a cabin randomly assigned for an upsell does not happen. We have always called, left a message at the same time we are checking out what cabins in the category are available. Then once they call you can tell them, i want that cabin. We have never had a problem getting the one we want unless someone else gets the upsell call before us.

How do you determine which cabins are still available?
