  1. Hi All

We all know that one of the biggest differences between a land based holiday and a cruise, is how friendly passengers are to each other chatting away, telling stories, offering to share tours etc,

One thing we look forward too on any cruise is meeting up with old friends and making new ones.

But are Princess cruisers more friendly than others, this week we have had a invite to visit folks the other side of the pond, join folks for lunch in a port two years away, join folks for a cruise, as well as the normal Christmas wishes.

    yours Shogun

I like your positive attitude, would love to share a table with you sometime.

  2. We have had midship Caribe deck on the Island Princess 2x through the Panama Canal and enjoy the bigger balconies + the privacy of the people above not looking down on to you.

Also C424 is in a good location, on the bump out and not right beside it.

I have never stayed on the Dolphin deck but if it were me I would save $ and go with C424.

Bump out cabins don't have the bigger balconies, thus the fewer sq ft.

We had a cabin across elevators once, and DW said she heard the bell every time it stopped on our deck, it didn't bother me, but she is a light sleeper.

  3. I would try it if I could get past the idea of eating something that I enjoy stepping on. When I look down at the poor squished snail, all I can see is a gooey mess.

I'm looking forward to the Alfredo in the Parmesan basket, and I'm looking forward to some eggplant dishes as well.

After trying them you may stop stepping on them:)

I haven't found escargot on my last few cruises, I wonder it they just don't serve them in AT dining??

  4. I agree that the chefs table is the best way to get one. It will be autographed and comes with a photo. We have received two, and plan to get another on our next cruise. We've given one to our kids. We really enjoy the chefs table.

  5. Can I use my IPad to print boarding passes to the printer in the Internet Cafe or do I have to use Princess Desktop computers.

I don't know if it's available on all airlines, but I check in on my iPhone, and they scan the phone at the gate for the boarding pass, no printing involved. You just need to download the app for your airline.

  6. This is a free app at the apple store, search for it under "princess cruises" and it will show up as"princess@sea". Download it to your phone and have all the info below at your fingertips for free, your phone can remain in airplane mode. Note:it won't work until onboard.

Princess at Sea - Instantly Send Messages to Guests Onboard!

  7. I will be on the Caribbean Princess in about a month+. The App says " Princess@Sea Messenger can only be used onboard one of our ships with Princess@Sea Messenger enabled. When you get onboard, please connect....and click retry." I don't think it will be useless when we are onboard. Doesn't hurt to be prepared with the App already downloaded. We used the new system on the Royal. Loved it!

Thanks! I find that the confusion comes from the name the app store has it listed. when I downloaded it, it was called "princess@sea", now it is listed under "princess cruises". But it's the same as what I have. It even says princess@sea when you view the app. you just can't find it under that name.

  8. This is all confusing, but as I understand it, the "princess@sea" app that we have on our iPhone 6's is useless. I guess we'll just wait and see what we need when get aboard. We have a group of 13, and would sure like to communicate.

    We'll be on Ruby 2/29/16.

  9. I wouldn't leave the phone at home. If you place it in airplane mode while on the cruise you won't incur any charges. It has a great camera, and with the "Princess at sea app you can text each other when seperated (for free) among other things.

With the "Shipmate" app you'll have a deck plan, itinerary, excursions etc. all on your phone. I have a flashlight app on mine that makes a trip to the bathroom at night without disturbing DW much easier.

  10. I don't know about Whittier, but I know you could rent in Seward, and the prices were ridiculously expensive--to the tune of $180 a day. Avis in Anchorage only wanted $65 a day--still way high, but...welcome to Alaska.

With car rentals, you can kind of understand it because they need enough cars for the demand in the summer, and then little or no demand the rest of the year.

  11. I have a print out from Princess that says "Princess@Sea is currently available on Caribbean, Coral, Crown, Diamond, Emerald, Golden, Grand, Regal, Royal, Ruby, Sapphire, Star and Sun Princess. The remaining ships in the fleet are scheduled to launch Princess@See by the end of 2015. So you should be able to use it with your group. :)

    Thanks

I found this list, these all have Princess@sea, but not all include messaging. (at least as of early this year).

  12. I read in an earlier thread that Princess@sea messaging wasn't available on Ruby last Feb. My question, is it available now? Or will it be Feb of 16?

    Here's what I find online.

"on select ships Princess@Sea Messenger allows you to send text messages to other guests onboard!".

We have a group, and this would sure be nice to have.

    Thanks for any help!

  13. OK..they get you off the ship at 2 am.....NOT.

Actually, you will disembark in the morning, like usual.

However, as for shopping for transport to Anchorage....waiting until you get off the ship is not a good idea. It is a good 90 miles to Anchorage and you will not be able to grab a cab or a super shuttle out there.

There are really only two ways to go (unless you have friends who really like you). One is a princess transfer-either by rail or bus. The other is to book a ride on the train. Either way, I strongly suggest you book one or the other in ADVANCE of the cruise.

90 miles would be round trip:), it's about 45.

BTW they had a fatal accident on the hi way yesterday that had the road closed for about 10 hours, a tour bus was involved. It happened at the entrance to the wildlife park. The train would have been the best choice by far in that case.

  14. I was surprised to see them a few years back at the East entrance to Glacier NP Montana in August. So you never know. The problem is, you need to be awake and looking at the rite time. I live in Alaska and am not awake and looking very often.:D When they show here, it's usually after midnight.

  15. Awesome, more info.. Thank you all again.. Going to check out the ports. Work officially gave me the green light for my vacation... I'm going cruising!!

Did you sneak the bottle on? Won't they kick you off the boat if they found out?

You can bring one bottle of wine per person, no problem. And you can buy it onboard from room service.

  16. I've never carried my Letherman tool on a cruise, and the only time I would have used it if I had it would be to open a beer bottle in my cabin, and it didn't take long to solve that problem, the top of the bathroom door works great. ;)

To open a bottle of wine I would ask the steward for a cork screw.

I know what it's like to need the tool and not have it, but a cruse is a good place to ween yourself.
