Hi there. Our cruise is on the 23rd, southbound from Whittier to Vancouver, and we haven't yet figured out how to get to the cruise terminal. We arrive into ANC very late on the 21st (almost 22nd). We figure we will need one day to unwind and recover from the long trip, and will be staying at a hotel near the airport (also undecided).
I would appreciate it very much if you could elaborate on how and where to book the train ride and, if you remember, how the cost compared to other transfer options? I think our two children would enjoy the train ride more than a rental car or a tour bus ride. Thank you in advance!
Doug
Since you have a whole day to kill, I would stay down town where you can walk around and enjoy Anchorage. Not much to do or see near the airport other than watching float planes on lake Hood.

If you download the Alaska Airlines app, you can check in with the cell phone, and they scan the phone for the boarding pass. Lots of other info like tracking flight, gate numbers, seat assignments etc.

According to her bridge cam, she is still at the butcher.

Do any of you know if Chef's Table experience can accommodate someone in a scooter? I can transfer to a chair at the dinner table, but don't walk great distances.

I would ask the question as soon as you can after boarding, that's when you need to sign up anyway.
I think they would try to work something out.

On southwest, they can just scan your phone at the gate.
You don't have to print 'nuthin'
This is what I've done lately on Alaska Air. Check in on the cell phone, and they scan the phone at the gate for the boarding pass. It doesn't get any easier.
I did have to download the app.

I'm another one who likes the made to order omelette at the HC. Normally very little wait other than for it to cook. Had one every morning on our recent Panama cruise. Sometimes they also offer steaks to order at that station.
Coffee in HC is free, but not brewed, I can handle it. :)

I've looked and haven't found the answer.
We recently did the Panama canal, and are now looking at a Europe cruise/tour on her. Wondering how much more crowded she will feel? DW will sure miss the wrap around track.

It's all pretty logical - as said, just follow the step. The only odd thing is that you have to "purchase" the minutes for $0.00 when you first log in, so be sure to click on purchasing minutes.
Also, if you use up your free minutes they don't tell you and just start charging at the high rate, so watch your minutes as you get need the end.
If your cabin-mate is platinum they will also get their own minutes.
Are the minutes for each person assigned to the cabin so that they could all be used by one person?

I noticed that the photo at the top has finely changed, no more smoke stacks.
No sound for me at this point, but it comes and goes.
I mean FINALLY:eek:

I noticed on our recent Panama cruise that the tickets in the extra charge dining (including Chefs table) didn't even have a space to add a tip. I guessed that the tip was included in the extra charge?

We have applied for CT twice, and were accepted twice. The second was later canceled due to Noro. We'll try again in a few days.

No matter which side you pick, there is always something to see on the other side.
I always choose starboard simply to keep my bearings. We tried the port side once and I found myself going the wrong direction all the time. ;)

I don't know why they would want to inconvenience you for no reason:confused:

Walking directions on google earth, showed distance at .4 tenths of a mile and an 8 to 9 minute walk
You're right! I stand corrected. There's a photo that calls the ferry terminal to the south pier 39. When I asked for walking directions, I got the same answer you did.

I'm no authority on SF, but Google Earth says it's 1 mile between pier 27 and 39. That's 20 minutes at my pace.

We've done the Princess xfr. from ship to LAX several times. we find it simple and painless, no reason to change.
We've even been happy with Princess from LAX to the ship.

Your hotel is approx 5 miles from the airport and again, about 4 to 5 miles from hotel to port. Tell your taxi driver to enter through the 17th st entrance if possible and avoid all the construction at the main entrance. The Royal is very close to this entrance and coming in from the main gate will make him have to drive all the way around.
I read somewhere here that they were closing the 17th St. entrance. Apparently that hasn't happened yet? If not, will it be open 1/20/15?
We're booked in Holiday Inn Express on 17th St.
Thanks

Keep in mind that you'll only be viewing the canal 1 day out of 17.You've got that right. Even a balcony cabin isn't great since you'll be missing out of something. You've got to circulate around the ship mo matter what cabin you're in. -
Do you need reservations for Super Shuttle or Prime Time to LAX?
-
The big question for the Princess excursion is does your luggage stay on the bus while you're touring? My guess is yes, but I hate surprises.

When you do receive your assignment you can request a change within the cat. you've been assigned if not happy with your assignment.

We did that once to LAX. Everything went like clockwork and we made it with no problem, but we decided not to try it again, too much stress.
Plan to carry your bags down the stairs because the elevators will be jammed when you need them. A trick is to grab an up elevator and ride to the top, then back down.

You book a BF GTY for a lower rate so they can place you anywhere on the ship they want you. I've done it and been upgraded, and even traded the new cabin for one like it on the Caribe deck. You can also pick a specific BF cabin anywhere you want, but it will cost you a little more.
