Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. It’s actually a programmable wrist mounted device that with the touch of a button calls for help over a cellular network. So a phone. Not a fully functional phone but still a phone. Even without the functionality of the alert device the dog itself still serves a function for diabetics and those suffering seizures. That function is not companionship. The animals will use their bodies to protect the patient during a seizure. An example is to place their shoulders under the head of the patient. Smaller dogs are typically trained to recognize the signs of an imminent seizure and alert the patient to get to a safe position. For diabetic patients the animal can detect high and low blood sugar and alert the patient. Some of our patients have a cardiac service dog to alert for an imminent syncope (passing out due to low blood pressure). Not all of our patients use markings with their service animal. They would prefer the general public not to know that the animal is a service animal. Though I have not asked any of them why they don’t use the vest, I can make an educated guess that it has to do with privacy. I am sure everybody has a story of somebody who abuses the system to get their pet into whatever they want, but you should never assume that it is not legitimate.
  2. Shih Tzu is a breed commonly used for as a response animal. Seizure response and diabetic response is a common use for a service shih tzu. Depending on the training they may even be able to dial 911 using a special phone.
  3. I feel your pain. Having a hyphenated last name can be a pain with some companies and people.
  4. Like any business with a limited inventory, I’m sure carnival will charge as much as they can. I expect prices to go up and some people priced out of cabin categories they prefer.
  5. In a couple months my family will be on the Mardi Gras. For our cabin we looked at a Havana corner and the porch faces a steel wall. Not exactly what we want. We ended up booking an Excel aft corner. We think it will work better for the view and letting the family hang out in our cabin.
  6. Due to a medical condition one member of our party is unable to eat anything made from mammal or mammal byproducts. Is Carnival able to accommodate that in the main dining room? I assume they should be able to as I’m sure they have protocols in place for allergies.
  7. It seems that this thread has become toxic. Yeah I know this post will be deleted and for some reason the mods will allow many of the toxic posts to remain.
  8. You could very well be correct. NCL set the date for the change nearly a month from now. I am sure they pushed it out a month to give time to evaluate how the 5 day cruises that have already dropped the requirement for vaccinated customers do.
  9. In our case it was only nurses. Not sure where the power grab thing applies to a contractual obligation. Also, I have no idea what you are talking about when it concerns contractors. Finally, we have never had a problem maintaining quality of care and have never had issues maintaining staffing levels. As I said, the vacancies were filled quickly.
  10. I don’t think that was judgmental at all. My spouses medical group had 6 nurses choose to resign instead of getting the vaccine. All the groups nurses sign a contract that includes a requirement for vaccinations and the list of vaccines can be amended at any time. They had a choice and they made it. All 6 probably found new jobs and their vacancies were filled quickly. Not every medical group is like my spouses though. For my spouses it was a business decision and not personal.
  11. I welcome the changes. Less fuel use means more profit. Sure a few people will not like the changes, but the list is quite reasonable and has been used extensively on land already. “Comprehensive upgrades to each ship's hotel HVAC systems, accounting for 25% of a ship's energy consumption, to improve hotel ventilation efficiency using sophisticated variable speed drives and on-demand systems throughout public areas, cabins and galleys. Additionally, indoor air quality is continuously monitored and maintained to the highest standards at sea, using an industry-leading air filtration and ultraviolet-C treatment throughout the ship.” No complaints here. Hotels on land have been doing this for years. Disney pioneered this approach and have been using cooling on demand since the late 90’s. “Technical systems upgrades on each ship using variable speed drives and on-demand automated control systems for engine room ventilation, main air conditioning chillers and cooling pumps, which together dramatically lower the energy needed to deliver cooling around the ship.” Modern HVAC systems are much more efficient than older systems from even 10 years ago. “State-of-the-art LED lighting systems installed throughout each ship to reduce both power consumption and heat load generation – creating a dual benefit from lower air conditioning demand.” This is fantastic. LED’s last longer, use less energy, and generate less heat than incandescent or fluorescent lighting. Lighting using exclusively LEDs will also make cooling more efficient. “Remote monitoring and maintenance improvements that maximize benefits from the upgrade packages, including improved instrumentation and automated management systems, with nonstop ship-to-shore connectivity. Expanded remote monitoring and analysis of each ship's energy performance and technical status ensure peak efficiency and minimal down times.” Remote monitoring is always useful for complex systems.
  12. This is why I book the biggest balcony I can. No need to fight for loungers when you have them right outside your room at all times. I do understand that not everybody can get those cabins for a variety of reasons.
  13. Very Untrue. Although this was not American Football, in 2019 on the Legend the bartender in the sportsbar and I enjoyed a Twenty20 match.
  14. Looks like I was totally wrong. Carnival does offer pickleball. from carnivals website. Pickleball Featured on Carnival Breeze, Carnival Celebration, Carnival Dream, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Legend, Carnival Magic, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Panorama, Carnival Pride, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Vista and Mardi Gras.
  15. And why not? All you need is a multi sport court and a portable net and you are set.
