We will be on the Breakaway in a couple months, and I see they have an Ice Bar. What are the details? Cost? Timing? Can my teenaged children check it out too or is it only a Vodka thing?

this is a great review. We've gotten the pass on the past several cruises (one pass for the two teens) and never had an issue. We had it on the Bliss in June- there were more kids on that cruise than you likely had, but it only seemed crowded one overcast sea day. I never did the calculations, but always felt like it was worth it- after dinner we had some fun family "tournaments" and I think it made sense for us.

What has been the experience with limiting the bottles of wine with the Beverage Plus package? if my husband and I both have the package, can we each get a bottle? We like to have both red and white, and the bottles are usually better than the the by-the-glass offerings.

wait what? There's no longer a corkage fee if you have the beverage package? We have premium plus- can we bring bottles of wine on for free? First I've heard this! Also, remember that with premium plus you get a 40% discount on bottles not covered. If you are into really fine wine- the fancier bottles like Opus One are actually cheaper than retail one you take 40% off the menu price. I know it's still a really expensive bottle of wine, but if that's your thing- the price ends up similar to what you'd pay in a wine store.

The boarding was the worst? Or the whole cruise? I'd be curious to hear what you thought of the rest of the cruise...

we too have had very unpleasant cruise next staff on both the Dawn and Star- especially when asking about booking cruises. They do seem to only want to sell CruiseNext certificates, but if you ask about actually booking something I too got handed a pamphlet and told to call when I got home. It wasn't helpful at all, and they weren't friendly in the least. This was after the big presentation in the atrium about upcoming cruises, and in the presentation they told us to go there- but they clearly didn't want to deal with it.

we have done many Easter cruises (including the Dawn twice), and there was typically an Easter bunny there when you board- waving and greeting.... and areas with Easter chocolates in the public areas and buffet. There was also an "Easter dinner" in the main dining room with things like ham if I recall.

The Maya Key excursion through NCL is really good snorkeling- it's an island that you get to by a short boat ride right from the cruise dock- it has excellent snorkeling, a really nice pool, animal sanctuary, nice beach area, and lunch is included. There's a bar where you can get drinks (not included).

that helps a lot thanks! So you were able to message people back home? I thought it only worked to message people on the ship- and even then that system never seemed to work right.... but you're talking about regular iphone to iphone "texting" which uses imessage?

We've always had a cruising policy of "phones in airplane mode, what ever it is can wait" kinda thing.... but new family dynamics are going to require checking in at home more. We are doing the breakaway from NOLA- so I know I text from ports fairly easily- but is there an upgrade package that will allow texting from the ship? We have iPhones if that matters.

Hello- we will be on the NCL Breakaway in April with an 11:00am flight out of MSY. We have suite privileges and TSA precheck if that helps... but are looking for recommendations on getting to the airport from the cruise port in a speedy way. Is it best to reserve a transfer somehow? Or just get a taxi at the port? How easy is it to get a taxi if we get off the ship early (aiming for 8:00am or so)?

I think this was in one of the recent reviews but now I can't find it- do you know which nights of the standard Western Caribbean out of NOLA that SIX is being performed?

about those shrimp cocktails.... was that a special for the evening? Or did you ask for it just as an "off menu" item? I didn't recall that they had plain shrimp cocktail on the haven dinner menu, but if you can still get it with a request that's great!

what does "per package" mean? If there are two of us with the upgrade in the same stateroom, is that 2 packages? Or one package for two people? This change is NOT good- as primarily wine drinkers, being able to take open bottles back to the room was one of the main reasons for the upgrade.

can anyone comment on how embarkation has been out of NOLA this year? I heard last year it was a mess- but that some of that was all the added paperwork checks for COVID. Is it any better? What about specifically for the Haven? How has that gone? Trying to decide what time to show up....

thank you for this review! Were any of the ports tender? We are on this same cruise in April- and two were initially listed that way, but our booking confirmation states "docked"- just curious what you did.

The Moderno salad bar also had sushi and soups last time we were there... that was pre pandemic though. It was quite a good salad bar. Our cruise this past June had printed Dailies in the cabin each day- we never had to ask for them.
