  1. Arno:

Is Tasos the Captain? Do you know when he goes off and returns? I promised him when he was promoted I'd cruise with him. Is Amanda a hostess in the MDR? If you see her could you get her schedule and say "hi" for me. Hope that you settle into your condo, relax and have a good and healthy series of cruises.

  2. I did not read any of the deleted posts so this comment is not directed at them or their removal. I must say that I've had some posts removed and upon reflection most of them should have been removed. I've even written one or two knowing that they would be removed, but I wanted someone to see them. That being said, the boards are not publically owned and the owners reserve the right to control content. Their board, their rules. Don't like it, don't indicate that you agree when you register. The moderators are selected by the owners and they accept the invitation to act as Moderators without compensation. Think that there are times when people might say what they truly believe, but say it in a tone that might provoke unwanted hostility (flaming). It is my opinion that one should focus on the argument, the pro and cons. However, sometimes the focus becomes "the person" and that in my view can become a problem. I am aware that Celebrity monitors these discussions and I will only offer praise when deserved. If I experience a negative I'll discuss it with those involved on the ship. If that doesn't work I'll contact Celebrity. My opinion is only my opinion. Censorship can kill a board, but so can nastiness and unwarranted negativity.

  3. Am curious to know...

We just got off Century last week and noticed lacking from our cabin were:

    - ice bucket

    - water jug

    - and body wash (only bar soap made an appearance plus the usual hair products and lotion).

Wondering if this is the norm or only peculiar to Century, our cabin attendants or ? Hate to have to make my first port shopping trip about buying essentials.

    Thanks.

Haven't been on a ship since the end off May so things could have changed, but I doubt it. Always get the items mentioned. Always ask for ice bucket and water jug to be removed and additional body wash. Will start cruising again in less than 5 weeks so I'll verify.

  4. Finally figured how to log on

We are sailing under code red... a miserable start to the voyage, delayed boarding, delayed luggage and a closed library...

There are absolutely no updates about how many are sick just that we will continue to operate like this for the entire journey..

The weather as we leave the Black Sea is spectacular, overall cool till now but warm today.

I know first hand what it's like. Was o also n a cruise departing from Istanbul and some were ill on the first day. Seemed to have it under control until we docked in Israel. One woman lost it while boarding. Hope that you and JoAnne avoid any adverse contact and enjoy your cruise. At least you know what to expect.

  5. Hi Cheshire Cheese,

Thank you for your kind comments about Perry. Despite a rude comment from an earlier poster, We feel Perry is one of Celebrity's very best performers, and an absolute gem. Quite frankly, Perry is one of the main reasons we booked our sailing on Eclipse next month, and we are looking forward to seeing him again.

I often wonder what happened to the old adage : "if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all"... especially when talking about others. Celebrity's onboard officers, crew & entertainers are working their butts off, 7 days a week, at all hours of the day and night, doing whatever possible to make your cruise a great one. Why bash them ? It's certainly very impolite, to say the least.

    Hi Andy:

You know that threads go off in all directions when Perry's name is mentioned. I believe that many fail to separate "Perry, the Person" from "Perry, the Entertainer". I'm not the biggest fan (my DW is). To me the act wears a bit thin the more you see it. However, I appreciate his energy and feel that he makes the most of his talent. Perry, the person is just wonderful. He is one of the most caring and sensitive people I've ever met. He is genuinely kind and caring. I couldn't agree more with your comments about the crew. They are truly dedicated to providing the best they can to make every cruise special. Naturally there are some who fail to deliver, but they don't last very long. The most frequent comment I hear from "top Cruisers" when they're asked: "why they choose Celebrity?" is: The Crew.

  6. We were in Aqua Class on the Eclipse in February 2013, and we have already booked our February 2014 cruise again in Aqua Class. We found that we liked several things about dining in Blu but the food choices weren’t appealing. The first night we ate there I had a fish dish that was really delicious, but my husband didn’t care for his meal. We tried eating there one more time and were really disappointed. Since we’re traveling in Aqua again in a few months and I’ve seen many comments about how good the food is in Blu, I’m wondering what has been your experience? Are you able to order off the menu, have them modify the choices or have you been satisfied with what you’ve received? I’m hoping to eat more often in Blu because I prefer the smaller dining space and the quieter atmosphere. However, I would also prefer good food. Thanks for letting me know about your experience and any advice you can give.

I've been in Blu enough times to know the menu. I usually enjoy the offerings, but there are two menus that give me some difficulty. I discuss options with the Maître 'd and have always been satisfied. Food preferences and tastes are so varied that it would be quite unlikely that all would enjoy the same things. make your preferences known in advance.

  7. This is my first post so please bear with me. I only have one word of advice to you: If you have a newer phone that has internet the phone will keep roaming and update the service all the time while you incur charges!! I went on a 14 day and my husband never shut off the phone, we only called home once, just received a few text messages. Received bill from T-mobile $450.00 that month!!!! We HAD international on the phone, our old plain phones didn't cost anything if you didn't use it, even if it was on. If you are at sea the phone can roam 4-5 times a day to the closest tower occurring from $4.00 to $7.00 per roam and updating charges.

Called T-mobile to see if there was anything they could do (since my husband put the international on the phone and they could have at least told him that he would get roaming charges 24/7 while the phone was on!) All they said was oh well, too bad, you should have known.

We will not make that mistake again.

You need to place your phone in "airplane mode". Welcome to Cruise Critic.

  8. The history and future of Michaels Club has been discussed extensively on Cruise Critic. Just a word to those who enjoy craft beers and Michaels Club; You need to convince Celebrity through your use and purchases that Michaels Club should remain a venue for craft beers. I've been on many Celebrity ships since the conversion and often see it empty or barely populated. My guess is that it will be gone if it doesn't begin to generate a profit.

  9. Thanks for the update.

Nick Shrives seems to have disembarked when you did and is now on Constellation. Darren Tiller was replaced by a new name: Benny Weidacher.

A search put him on Explorer of the Seas. Is there some cross training going on?

You raise an interesting speculative point about "cross training". Remember when there were AL Umpires and NL Umpires. Now they just have "Umpires" who cover whatever game they're assigned. Wonder if RCCL will be doing the same thing? Could give them flexibility. Another sign of a closer relationship between the parts?

  10. Everyone has their own unique experience and while I may agree there are other avenues to voice concerns regarding an individual, voicing disappointments add balance to this site. The uncomfortable experience of a poster could bring uncomplimentary or unprofessional behavior to attention, where it could be corrected. I enjoy meeting and being friendly with fellow cruisers, staff, and crew. However, I do expect, especially on Celebrity, a level of professionalism. I might add I have met very few Celebrity employees that do not exceed my expectations.

Don't want to start a debate on this thread, but if you find that there is a problem while on the cruise report it to a Senior Officer in the department that is responsible. Give them a chance to make it right prior to going public. Everyone, including staff has the right to defend themselves against unfair attack. Will say nothing more.

  11. Very sage advice. More than one cruiser has posted a retraction about initial impression.

I know that we have our favourites but too many leave because of having a very tough job with weekly confrontations.

Agree. As someone once said posting on the internet is like sending a postcard, not a sealed letter. If one has negative comments about staff there are certainly places to report. But, I don't believe these pages are the proper place. Anyone can have a bad day or week. I've given some specific examples in other posts.

  12. Any chance? Sure. A good chance, who knows? Could be a new level available to all who qualify, could be a perk offered from time to time based on the demographics of any given cruise, could be an experiment destined for the circular file. Nobody knows

"Those who know aren't speaking. Those who are speaking don't know."

  13. I can't understand why one would join cruise critic just to post about Qsine unless one was "involved" in the trade... but that's the cynic in me.

Is someone looking to become a Qsine Maitre'd on another ship?

Think that the OP must have read something that triggered an idea. That's positive. Then proposed the idea. Some call that a""brain f@@t". That happens quite often in legislative bodies throughout the free world. These "brain f@@ts" unfortunately become "laws".

  14. I agree with all the contrary opinions. It is nice to have a distinct character to each ship.

In matter of fact I wish that each ship had a distinct dining experience as well as standard offerings.

I've almost worn off the novelty after several diets.

Novelty has also worn off here. Now it's about menu and food quality. Prefer Tuscan ,Murano and Lawn Club Grille (only on nice, warm evenings) to Qsine. To each their own.

  15. First: Welcome to Cruise Critic. I see you just joined today. Just curious to learn on how many cruises have you experienced Qsine? How many cruises have you experienced Silk Harvest? I prefer Qsine, but favor a choice. Ships should not be completely "cookie cutter".

I'm sure and hopeful that someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I believe that Qsine was a creation of JVS and there may be some contractual considerations involved in any changes. People might favor a change, but it might be costly, difficult or impossible to accomplish given the JVS contract.

  16. And in June when they were trialling this lounge on Infinity 50+ did not make the cut, I think it was 75 that was the cut

I would guess the cut off point for the February 15th Century cruise will be at 100 points! I'll be a bit short, really a newbie in this group, so hope that someone invites me in. I can just see two concentric circles formed in the room with 100 point plus cruisers sitting together and high Suite cruisers sitting together. One who was both a high point cruiser and staying in a high Suite would be in the overlapping area of the circles.

  17. That would certainly be a change in corporate philosophy and not much incentive for us Baby Boomers to move over to X.

I bet ~Cruisenut~ would love use of the RCI Concierge Lounge on his upcoming cruises.;)

He deserves it as a recognition of his loyalty to Celebrity and RCCL. I don't want to be too specific here, but there was a high number Celebrity cruiser who was extended top tier benefits on his first RCCL cruise. The parent Corporation is ultimately benefitted by top cruisers on any of their lines.
