  1. I meant I am not a US citizen who thinks that the US dollar is accepted everywhere. Given the amount, a bit over $100 US, I'm not going to hassle with post/mailing fees. And we don't have time to go to Portsmouth.
  2. Thanks. There are none in Southampton that have that service. Closest ones are at least 1/2 hour away and given the small amount I do have, I'd end up loosing it in cab fare there and back.
  3. I'd check on the ship, but my guess is that if you are already booked for the debark tour through Princess, you will get the colored luggage tags and will be in a group with the others on your tour. In the debark info that they pass out a few days before the end, it will have a list of where and when to meet.
  4. Thanks for those who have responded so far even though it does not look like I have a good solution. Hopefully there is another answer, or maybe a hotel employee will help. I will not be in London. I was trying to be a good tourist in 2019 by getting local currency and not relying on just credit cards. With COVID putting a halt to some travels I don’t think it’s fair to tourists to go to the Bank of London. I’m glad I don’t have a lot.
  5. We traveled to the UK in 2019...and I had some leftover currency. I have two 20 pound and one 50 pound notes that are now "old"....I had kept them as we travel but with COVID of course we had some time not traveling. We will be flying into LHR and spending a night in Southampton prior to a Norway cruise. Any suggestion from a local as to if these notes will be useable or any place to quickly trade them in?
  6. We've found traveling to the Med. in May is nice. The weather is still warm (not hot) and less crowded. We've had friends go in Sept. and they found the same.
  7. I agree with a lot posted above. Look at the Princess brochure to see what interests you. We did the connoisseur tour and loved it-for us we thought it was worth the price. We did the tour first then cruise (got to rest on the ship after all the moving around). Those tend to be more pricey as they are more popular. We also went mid August. We had great weather, and less children due to back to school (for us, traveling as two couples, we had no kids in tow). Around mid-August the price goes down too as those with families go earlier in the summer. We stayed at Fairbanks/McKinley Lodge/Denali lodge and Kenai lodge and loved all of it. Two days at Denali are needed for the longer Tundra tour as posted above. Last year we went back and just did a cruise (to join other family members). Although the glacier viewing is great from the ship, I don't think you get a sense of Alaska without a land tour. Just my opinion.
  8. Hi, since we are doing this as just a day excursion from Genoa, we want to book with the ship to be sure we get back in time (or actually that the ship waits for us). We won't want to go on our own for a train ride on a port day. But, thank!
  9. Hello....did you pick one of these? if so which one? I'm also trying to pick one. Thanks.
  10. Hello, I'm looking at these excursions for next year and have the same question. Can you advise if you did the GOA-165 and how it was? Thank you.
  11. We are going out of Southhampton next month. I did pick a group on the app (second set of timing) but I'd hope if we do arrive earlier, Princess would let us Board as we are Elite. I'd plan to look for a Princess person if we'd have to wait.
  12. In 2019, we did a British Isles cruise, and like you, we like to fly in early. We landed at Heathrow, and took a private cab pre-booked to Windsor. We stayed two nights in Windsor and then took another pre-booked car to Southampton the day of the cruise. We saw the guards parade, toured Windsor castle, took a boat ride, and enjoyed walking around the town (especially at dinnertime when the day visitors were gone). We stayed in London post-cruise. It may not be as much traveling as some of the other ideas above, but we really enjoyed it and I wondered why more people don't stay in Windsor.
  13. In 2019, we used John McCormack from www.seethehighlands.com. It was just my husband and myself, but we wanted to do more than the ship offered. John was fantastic. He had some tours to pick from but we worked ahead of time with him and told him what we wanted and he customized a trip for us. He was well worth it.
  14. Agree...I'd wear/buy a sturdy pair of walking/hiking shoes (think tennis shoe like but with firmer treads on the bottom). Spray on waterproof for them if they are not waterproof. Wear those on the plane and you will be fine.
  15. Does anyone know if Princess offers a shuttle to Haugesund or if you just walk to the City Center if you are not on one of their excursions?
  16. You are right except that your "join me tonight" does not have to be a "smaller" suitcase---it can be regular size. When my husband and I did a land tour pre cruise (the land portion was actually longer than the cruise), we each had on the land portion a normal size suitcase, and a carry on each (backpack/small duffle). We then had one additional regular size suitcase that we shared that had our dressier clothing for the cruise portion that we did not need on land (this was the days still of getting dressed up at night...).
  17. We are taking a Princess cruise to Norway this summer. In the ports of Bergen & Haugesund we were considering just walking around on our own. Has anyone done this or have any suggestions?
  18. Thank you very much for posting this. We have a cruise booked for August. About a month ago I went to the app and made reservations for a table for two each night. After I saw this post I checked my app and every night it was changed to "shared". I'll keep an eye on it and also check in with the ship on the first day. I really miss Traditional dining.
  19. Can I ask if you remember what time you got to LHR? We are not flying out until the next day so we won't be rushed. We are looking into staying at the Hilton. Was there a chance to get a snack or light lunch on the way to the airport?
  20. Hi, I'm sorry I really don't remember. We do travel with credit cards and also local currency.
