  1. ARGHHHHH. But the bloody wonderful staff aren't getting it are they!!!!!!! Its going on the bottom line.

THE STAFF WILL GET LESS OVERALL AS PEOPLE THAT DONT READ THIS SITE WILL BELIEVE THE EMAIL THEY HAVE RECEIVED FROM NORWEGIAN. IT STATES THAT THE DIFFERENTIAL IS FOR THE BUTLER AND CONCIERGE!!! THEY WILL USE IT AS AN EXCUSE TO NOT TIP CASH WITH A CLEAR CONCIOUS !!!

I'll continue to look after everyone but don't feel Norwegian should take any more from me and not give it to the staff! Any adjustment I make down to the level of a normal cabin would immediately be accompanied by a transfer directly to the butler and concierge, on top of what I would normally give them.

Thats fairer and what Norwegian are already saying is happening. WHICH ACCORDING TO THE OP ISNT!!!.

    and Breatheeee.

Get over yourself!! Your point came across very clear to everyone that you can't justify an extra $2 in the dsc when staying in a suite.

  2. Allow me to clarify..I really could care less who wants to say what, I joined these boards to give and get info 14 years ago. There was a staff meeting in St. Marteen this week. This information came from Senior Staff not just crew. eat your popcorn break out your beers just giving you first hand not hearsay from people. This comes from those not even in the tpiping process.

Best not to respond threads if you have nothing constructive to offer other than sarcasm.

We are in the Garden Villa have always been in the Haven and will continue to do the right thing.

Hope you all have wonderful cruisers ours has been amazing.

EXCACTLY! No justification is needed. The staff on NCL is wonderful and it's well deserved. If I had to pay dsc of $20 for staying in a suite I wouldn't care. It's well deserved all around.

  3. Im not surprised they told you that, Turkeys don't tend to vote for Christmas.

Somethings very wrong if thats the situation.

    Quote....

Norwegian Cruise Line is adjusting its discretionary daily service charges, effective for all sailings that depart on or after March 1, 2015.

    The new rates are:

$12.95 per person per day for any category up to a mini-suite stateroom

$14.95 per person per day for any suite category

You can choose to pre-pay your service charges at the current rate of £7.00 per person per day. If charged on board, the new rates will apply.

Norwegian's daily discretionary service charges, which were last adjusted in 2009, make it easy for guests to provide gratuities to key onboard staff who provide superior guest service during the cruise, including their room steward, restaurant servers and behind-the-scenes support staff. Guests who are sailing in Suite categories also receive the services of a concierge, butler and dedicated wait staff

Unless someone can convince me that the the extra is justifiable, (please do so) my next cruise could be the first time I ever adjust the service charge back to $12.95.

You did say you want people to convince you why the extra is justifiable. I on the other hand would not lessen my tip to my butler and concierge by $7 each or tip them any less amount than I normally do bc I had to pay an extra $14 to the other staff and there are many other members on here that feel the increase is not a big deal and well deserved.

I wouldn't be bragging about how much I paid for my cruises and then also say my next cruise I might be adjusting my dsc bc I can't justify paying an extra $14.

  4. So if we look at this as just a statement fact, help me understand why Suite Guests should pay more.

The additional cash tipping of the Concierge and Butler is irrelevant here.

Why should someone have to justify to you anything about giving the staff extra pay bc they take care of a suite? If you don't like the increase of $14 extra for 7 days, don't sail in a suite.

  5. I've brought my own hair dryer, straighter and curling iron BUT I wound up having to use the hair dryer in the cabin bc my hair dryer was too powerful and kept blowing the fuse in the cabin. This has happened on all of my cruises.

  6. When I was on the BA in Aug in an aft penthouse, my butler was assigned to all the aft penthouses (12) and he would have to get everything anyone asked from the Haven area. I only know this info from him not because he complained, but bc I asked him about his job. Our last night onboard I had him bring dinner to the cabin to eat on the balcony and I had him bring all courses at the same time bc I knew he'd be running back n forth on that huge ship. 1 thing he misunderstood in what we wanted (shrimp cocktail) and he was able to get it from cagneys quickly bc cagneys is aft.

  7. I had a mid ship aft balcony. The outside space is small. When I looked over, I saw what appeared to be a corner balcony with a lounge chair. Are these rooms more expensive? Are they suites? How would I book one next time? Thanks!

Those are AFT Penthouse Suites...my favorite cabin to book :)

  8. I just booked my first Aft balcony on Breakaway and was originally assigned room 14276 but because of the posts about noise from above I change to 10314. Any feedback or pictures of 10314?

Lol your cabin is my zip code :)

  9. Booking an excursion gets you a tender ticket, so you don't have to go wait on line for a tender ticket. There's a difference between booking an excursion which gives you a tender ticket and a priority tender. Priority tender is for suite and platinum guests and you get the first tender. The first tender to GSC with priority your also with the staff heading to the island also.

  10. Yes! Print out the consent letter on the ncl site. I took my 2 nieces with me in August on the Breakaway. When I was checking in I was asked if they were my children (we have different last names) and I told them no, but I had the letter and a photo copy of my sisters dl. I also had a notarized letter stating that I can make medical decisions on my sisters behalf in case of any emergencies.

  11. FWIW' date=' my wife is very susceptible to motion sickness, she has trouble in back seats in cars and forget about theme park rides. She has shortened many fishing trips. Anyway, aft cabins and viewing the wake do not affect her (accept one occasion when it got rocky when we were headed back to LA after doing a Mexican Riviera and the ship was hauling the mail).

In rough seas you will feel a lot more motion towards the front of the ship than the rear.[/quote']

I am the same way about motion sickness. Heck I got motion sick on the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh ride in Disney World lol but I'll book an AFT cabin every chance I get. I take motion sickness pills during my cruises. I felt just as sick in a Haven Spa Suite on the Breakaway, and that cabin is somewhat forward on the ship.

  12. I'm a seriousness. If your child is going to swim for a few hours in the pool, which most kids do, there are no chairs for the adults to sit, and watch? I don't understand this set up

There's a sitting/bench area for adults to sit and watch their kids while they're in the pool. Kids cannot be in the pool without an adult present. There is staff watching to make sure an adult is there.

  13. Well, we have all been teenagers ourselves, so most should realize the dangers of not having an adult in the cabin with the teens.

About 30 years ago, my two 15 year old nieces went on a choir trip. After two nights, my brother got a call to come and get the girls, they had been caught smoking marijuana in the hotel room. Neither had ever done this before (or at least never been caught before) but wanted to fit in with the group in their room.

Now I have a granddaughter 14. She has been very trustworthy and open until this year. She planned a sleepover at a friend's to be able to meet a boy at the mall. The "Plan" was discovered, so she is now grounded for two months.

Adults have been raped, murdered and almost murdered on cruise ships. Do you want your child to be included in that statistic? I can think of two very distinct recent cases (I think a 14 year old was served alcohol and then molested by a crewmember, and an adult woman in her cabin was almost killed by a crewmember that felt she had insulted him).

I've always tried to have adult supervision for my children and grandchildren. As I stated before, guess I'm old fashioned, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. It's not only what the children may do, but what the other 2000-5000 people on the ship may do.

I agree with you. I would get 2 connecting cabins and keep the connecting door open to be on the safe side. Too many people let their guard down when they're on vacation and especially think this was bc they're on a ship and have the thought "my kids are on a ship, they can't leave or go anywhere" if it comes down to a cost issue with people, wait the few extra months to save the money.

  14. We are a family of five and currently have two balcony rooms booked. I'm thinking about maybe booking an inside room for my kids. Thinking before we head to bed, we would give them one of our keys so that the kids can let them in our room if an issue arises. Thoughts?

If your booked on the newer ships like Breakaway the inside cabin doors are not directly across from the balcony cabins. There a hallway in the middle of the deck that you go down to get to the inside cabins. Keep the balcony cabins next to each other.
