  1. I do agree with an earlier poster that where you are cruising may affect what you will see worn by other guests. The Caribbean is laid back and I have no experience (yet) with Alaska. European sailings do seem a little dressier. All that being said, a pair of slacks and button down shirt will be acceptable any night of the cruise. Or, a nice sweater.
  2. Have you linked your accounts? With linked accounts, you will both be treated as having the amount of points of the spouse with the higher amount. This requires a call in (frustrating that you can't do it on line). When I called in to link our accounts, I had a laundry list of items to discuss including missing points. Once I got through to someone, the rep was wonderful. She resolved all of my questions and as an end result, I was credited with 15 missing points. As a side note, has anyone else noticed that the sales blurbs you are subjected while on hold are overwhelmingly focused on Suites and the Retreat? Easy to see where Celebrity is focusing their efforts.
  3. I will add my voice to the chorus suggesting Ensemble and World Class Bar. My wife and I will often stop for an after show drink at WCB. The Zacapa Old Fashion is wonderful. Something to remember, everything on the menu is near, at or even above the $15.00 cost level. So, it tends to be used almost exclusively by people on the premium drink package making it a lot less crowded than some of the other bars. As for Ensemble, this is our night cap spot. The tables and booths have a bit of distance between them and they usually have one of the better lists of premium bourbon and scotch. And the wait staff is top notch.
  4. Thank you for posting this. Love Cafe Al Bacio and looking forward to trying the new (to me) coffee cocktails. Couple of questions. 1. Do you know if you can still get the affogato? Don't see it on the list anymore. 2. With the scotch cocktails, did they have any issues keeping the single malt in stock? Highland Park is a favorite of mine. 3. Finally, I see they now offer beer and wine. Can you just order some of the scotch neat? It would be nice to have another option.
  5. I'm presuming you did this, but did you open your reservation and click "plan my cruise"? Then all you need to do is open the dining tab and click plan all cruise dining. We did this for our October cruise a few months ago shortly after we booked. Let us know if you figure out what went wrong.
  6. I think this is a great point. Because you can pay the difference, decision on upgrading to premium is a question of how many upgrades you would be getting and this covers all types of drinks, not just wine. As for bringing some bottles aboard, if it can be done easily, I say go for it. Either for drinking in your cabin with room service or even bringing to the MDR to have with dinner for a special night. I understand that they waive the corkage fee for people with drink packages.
  7. It's been a few years, but they also had a good grappa for a post dinner libation. Sorry to see that the lobster ravioli is not offered anymore.
  8. Thank you for these tips. Linking the accounts on board (and hopefully finally being able to update my email address) sounds a lot better than waiting on the phone for another long wait.
  9. I tried that and got put in the same queue as 1 800 760 0654 which I have also seen listed as the Captain’s Club number.
  10. You are correct on that. Although my hassle today was with the phone system, everything I was trying to do today should be possible to do on the web site. For example, there should be a simple method of linking accounts and I've never seen another website/company that doesn't provide a simple method of updating contact info such as an email address.
  11. I was calling for a couple of purposes. To link my account to my wife's; To change my email address for Captain’s Club mailings (since changing it on line multiple times did nothing); and to ask a question regarding some missing points. Problem is, if you have any issues with the Captain’s Club, you need to talk to someone. I didn't mind waiting, but for the menu to kick me into the wrong queue infuriates me.
  12. Well, called the Captain’s Club number. Hit the correct option to talk to a representative about my Captain’s Club account waited almost an hour and a half on hold (after they said wait time was 30 minutes), finally got a representative and she says I'm sorry, I'm with reservations, let me put you through to the Captain’s Club and threw me back on hold, presumably to the back of the queue. Oh, and then ten minutes later disconnected me. AARRGGHH!!!!!! Celebrity, if you still actually have someone monitoring this board. Your website is beyond awful. It maybe the worst I have ever encountered and that included dealing with the IRS. This isn't customer service, it's customer disservice. Any suggestions on dealing with this incompetence would be greatly appreciated.
  13. I saw this too, but the details in the brochure say different as other people have pointed out. I think this was just bad copy and the free drinks stay limited to Elite and above.
  14. From the way I read it, I would think it is a straight percentage of whatever percent added to your bid. For example, if you are Elite and bid $100.00, it would be treated as a $103.00 bid. A $500.00 bid is treated as $515.00 etc. Not much but it would serve as a tie breaker between same bid amounts.
  15. Tipping in US (at least pre covid) is more in the nature of cost shifting. Legislation allows service industries to pay a lower wage in anticipation of the servers receipt of tips. It is not just a bribe, in some industries it's a necessary part of their pay. As a result, tipping became de rigueur. Over time the "expected " tip has crept up as have the industries where tipping is becoming common. And Covid has increased and spread tipping even further as a lot of us (including me) have started tipping on take out orders, etc. That being said, tipping is now and will always be a personal choice. I make no excuses for tipping well and I'm not going to assume bad motives or criticize anyone who does not share my views.
  16. Hi folks, I've read quite a few threads regarding the packages on Celebrity and what is covered, but I have never seen any information on which brands Celebrity uses for well drinks. Do they use a variety of the brands from the classic package or do they have a level of liquor below the classic brands. If I recall correctly, about 5 years ago when Celebrity offered a "standard" drink package below the Classic package, they specified that it covered mixed drinks made with an unspecified well liquor. I'm just not sure if they still have lower shelf brands on board now that most everyone is on classic or premium plans. If so, it seems to necessitate calling your liquor whatever your package.
  17. I asked a similar question (who shares tips) a while ago and was directed to this faq Https://www.celebritycruises.com/faqs/gratuity-program That being said, whether included or not, I would always tip someone providing me a special service.
  18. Strange, I received 5 and my wife received 15? But we both did the same activities. Only thing I can think of is she booked us for 2 excursions (does anyone know if you can double up on this?). She is the primary on the cruise booking. I'm supposed to get points too as my account is linked to the reservation, but. . .
  19. I agree 5 is appropriate. But, you might want to tip more if you ask them to set it up outside for you. As a general rule, the more you ask from the crew member, the higher the tip should go.
  20. Don't forget, the cruise industry as a whole has a vested interest in trying to minimize cases on board and in showing that they are actively addressing any health risks. And a few public cases of wide scale infections on a ship could permanently hurt the industry. Cruising is somewhat different from other industries due to its nature and to public perception. Over the past 15 to 20 years, there have been numerous health scares on cruise ships from Norovirus to Legionnaires disease. And there was the wide spread publicity about the Diamond Princess and other cruise ship issues back in 2020. As a result, there is wide scale public perception that ships are floating petri dishes. Point is, it doesn't matter whether the perception is true or not. What matters to the industry is how it can overcome any negative perception and convince people who might be interested in a cruise that they will be safe. As such, I expect they will do what they can to appear to be out front on the issue of safety.
  21. I'm sailing on Summit this fall and I expect that I probably have at least a 10% chance of testing positive during or after my cruise. But I am fully vaxed and boosted and willing to take that chance. That being said, while pre cruise testing doesn't totally get rid of the risk, I have to assume it is reducing it. If 1 to 2% of people test positive in a pre cruise test, that is 20 to 40 covid infectious people who will potentially not be on board (on a full M class ship). If there is anything these last few years has taught me, it is that there are far too many people out the thinking only about themselves and not caring about the affect of their actions on the rest of us.
  22. I am cruising on the Summit this fall with a premium plan, and I highly doubt I will go thirsty. As many have already stated, the reason I am convinced of this is that am flexible. I am sure there will be high quality gin of some sort at the Martini Bar for my pre dinner cocktail (and on prior cruises, I've enjoyed working through the options) and some type of single malt or good bourbon to sip for a nightcap. As for standard mixed drinks or pool drinks, most of the time, I'm not sure my palate is refined enough to distinguish whether the rum in my rum punch is classic or premium grade. As for wine in the MDR, I've always had good luck with my Sommelier. I don't go in looking for a specific wine brand, or even varietal. In fact, I let the Sommelier know I am open to trying different varietals that I may not be too familiar with that may go well with what I am eating. Most of the time I don't even know the cost per glass of what I am drinking and I end up drinking different wines most nights. I simply try to work with the Sommelier to pair the wine to the food. That being said, the changes to the drink packages have lessened the need to upgrade to premium. When the classic package was limited to drinks under a certain value and did not permit you to pay just the upcharge, the premium package was a necessity if you wanted to go to the Martini Bar or World Class Bar. One Martini or drink at the World Class bar per day covered the upgrade cost. Now, you need to see if you are drinking enough premium drinks to cover $16 per day.
  23. It may be the way back goggles,, but it does seem like the menu has shrunk over the years with fewer options offered. This might have started with the combination of the starter and soup/salad courses. Beyond the everyday selections, it seems like the options get reduced in number every few years.
  24. I'm not familiar with dining in Luminae (we haven't been able to try the suite life yet), but this comment does kind of bring up something that I have noticed in looking at deck plans. It's a given that Celebrity is adding far more suites to its ships, and they are filling a higher percentage of the suites than other classes. The E Class has a far larger percentage of suites than the M or S classes. Even the revolutionized ships seem to have rooms converted to suites. Yet, despite this, the size of Luminae doesn't seem to be growing proportionally. Could this be why Luminae seems to be more crowded? As for me, I'll gladly take a less crowded MDR.
  25. I haven't seen the email either, but the link Cruise Wonderland posted worked. Only difference was I needed to add my CC number manually. Hope this doesn't create an issue with the points.
