We weren’t crazy about last nights MDR menu so when we got back onboard at 3, we decided to take a shot at getting a reservation at Giovanni’s. We had no problem getting one and could’ve chosen any time we wanted. When we arrived for dinner, the restaurant was nearly empty with just a few other diners in the far corners. We had the meat plank for an appetizer, half portions of the pasta special (Arabbiata with capers for me, spinach gnocchi for Andy) and we both had filet minon four our mains. Dessert was Tiramisu and Gelato. It was a wonderful meal from start to finish. We stopped at the Schooner Bar to check on the baseball score. Since it wasn’t looking good for the Phillies, and because the piano entertainer was making my ears hurt, we headed to R Bar. I tried a new drink that the gentleman beside me was having, a Caipirinha. It was fan-tastic! But very strong so I could have one. Sorry I didn’t take a picture. Guess I’ll just have to order another one tonight 😀, for all of you of course!

We got back onboard around 3 pm and since the ship was pretty empty, I took a few more pictures. This is the Tavern Bar on deck 4. Although it’s a larger bar and seating area, we haven’t found it to have the same fun energy that R Bar has. A few shots of the Solarium area.

Yesterday was a great day on Coco Cay. We parked ourselves at the Oasis pool. They didn’t have mint to make mojitos so I had to suffer through a couple of Painkillers instead 😉. Lunch was a cheesesteak, potato salad, Caesar salad and some fries, it was all very good. Some random shots. The beach area is South Beach, cabanas and the floating bar. Liberty was in port with us.

Well two weeks with a four year old along and we’d definitely use up more of the storage. If you haven’t already, maybe stop by the internet desk about your photo issues. In addition to upgrading us to Surf & Stream, the young man also fiddled around with some settings on my phone (with my permission) and it’s been working pretty well since then. Not fast for sure, but at least I can post and load pictures. We’re on Deck 9, not too far from the forward stairs & elevators. Say hi if you see us!

Last night was formal night as well as 70’s night. First stop was Viking Crown Lounge (or whatever they’re calling it these days) for sunset. It was nearly empty. Next was 70’s music trivia in the Schooner Bar. Our score was 13 correct answers out of 20. I take credit for most of them, the 70’s was my era. Andy would best me hands down if there was an 80’s music trivia contest. Dinner in the MDR. I remembered pictures this time! Pumpkin Soup Beef Carpaccio Beef Tenderloin Apple Blossom After dinner we spent time at the R bar again, and watched the 70’s show on the Promenade.

As Td6462 said, it’s all the way to the right. It didn’t make it into the photo but there’s another full bank of cabinets there & the cooler is in the bottom. We don’t mind the closed in balcony either, it’s very private. Out of curiosity, what do you not care for about the cabin? I was concerned the decor would be very dated but that was based in my memories of Explorer back in 2013 & 2014 with its old teal color scheme. I was pleasantly surprised though. We would definitely book another Jr Suite if the price was right but to be honest, we haven’t used a fraction of the storage space that’s available, so I can’t say I’m sold on the larger room as a requirement going forward.

Good morning from Coco Cay! It’s a beautiful day here, but it might be our last day of really nice weather. We have another sea day tomorrow, then Puerto Plata which looks like rain for at least part of the day. Saturday looks like all rain in St Thomas 🙁 and thunderstorms in San Juan. The upgrade to Surf & Stream seems to have solved the internet issues so let’s get back to this “Live” report actually being live! I have dinner menu pictures and Cruise Compasses. The compasses I’ll post later on. We‘ve only been going to the WJ for breakfast & lunch so unfortunately I don’t have MDR menus for those. Night 2 was Halloween. There were a lot of people dressed up, some really great costumes. We did not dress up and made it to the MDR for dinner. We both had the Poblano Pepper Soup, Braised Beef Short Rib and Mississippi Mud Pie. Service was a little slow but everything was hot and tasted great. Sorry, but I forgot to take pictures of anything but the soup. After dinner we hung out at the R bar. We’ve found the staff there to be the best so far. They just work together, in a tight space I might add, like a well oiled machine. They’re also very friendly and engaging. @Sea DogGreg, who knows which of the bartenders will still be on when you sail, but Bradley in the R bar is great. Right now I’m going to enjoy my first cocktail of the day, so I’ll add more later.

Just a quick update and I hope to post more tomorrow. I finally went to the internet desk this afternoon to complain about the inability to access nearly any website. I wouldn’t have cancelled the plan because it’s still important to us to be able to iMessage back home or WiFi call if needed. But to be honest, if we couldn’t get better internet service I would expect some sort of credit or refund against what we paid. If I’m going to get terrible service, I shouldn’t be paying full price for it. We had the same plan (Voom Surf) on Anthem in April and had no issues at all. Anyway, he offered to upgrade us to Surf & Stream at no charge and things seem to be working okay now. Still a bit slow, but at least we websites load now. Tomorrow is Coco Cay so I should be able to get up to speed.

A few more from yesterday. Brave souls on the Flowrider on a windy 62 degree afternoon. We backed out of this channel, literally at the end of the Logan Airport runway. It was a beautiful sail away out of Boston. We watched a little football at the Schooner Bar. Here’s their bar stock. We were starving at 6:30 and didn’t think we’d last until our 7:30 My Time reservation. Andy suggested we stroll thru the WJ to see what they had. Wayyy in the back, we found them grilling up thin rib-eye steaks, so we decided to just eat there. With a baked potato, salad, broccoli and Key Lime Pie for dessert it was delicious. Today turned out pretty nice on the pool deck, sun & clouds and about mid-70’s. One quick little rain shower and then the sun returned. I do wish they’d had some better music. I tried a Goombay Smash (delicious) and a Mojito which was disappointing - too sweet and not enough mint. I’ll keep trying!

Sorry for the lack of posts. As stated, internet is HORRIBLE. This is the first time I’ve even been able to get the CC board to load, I was starting to think it was blocked. I’ve been taking lots of pictures, will post them when I can. There seems IMO to be a lack of entertainment so far on the ship. Sleepy piano music in Schooner Bar and piped in elevator music on the pool deck.

Windjammer at 1:30 PM As promised @Ocean Boy , from the R bar. My first Dark n Stormy. Wasn’t sure at first, but it’s growing on me. @Sea Dog doesn’t look like a great selection to me at the R bar, but I do see Kracken.

We are onboard! We boarded right at one PM, check in was very quick and easy. Rooms were ready so we dropped off our carry ons and headed to the Windjammer. I tell ya’ folks, if you want to avoid WJ crowds, board a little later. First impression, the ship looks fantastic. It does of course feel smaller in comparison to our last cruise on Anthem, but we both commented on how much more character this ship has. Here are a few pictures to start off; more to come.

Bags are packed other than the last minute things we need in the a.m. I pretty much stuck to what I planned to pack but there were a few last minute “I might need this” additions. Someone posted a picture on another board of Apple Air Tags which reminded me I meant to order some. So a last minute trip to Best Buy was needed. We completed our health questionnaires this morning and we’re ready to go! Hope everyone has a safe trip to the port tomorrow. Photo from our Anthem cruise in April. If you see us, say “hi”!
