  1. So a proper investigation is already underway. It may be that everything was done properly and we move on, it may be that there are learnings. Either way, as a responsible operator, the questions will be asked and facts determined. P&O are the responsible party. Their ship hit another, which was still. I’m not aware of P&O shirking that. It may be that whilst they are responsible, no party is to blame. If everyone did their jobs fully and correctly but it was just a freak set of circumstances that occurred quickly then no one else can may have done a better job. One final thought. The bridge is manned 24/7, I don’t know whether arrangements were already being made to get a tug, adjust the lines or move from the berth.
  2. So agreed that it is an upgrade, albeit a small one. If you’re not too early to bed, then I think it’s good.
  3. G221 isn’t obstructed by a lifeboat. It is above the theatre though. Where we’re you previously?
  4. Currently it’s proceed as usual.
  5. Southampton’s airport is finished but can still only take a 737, which is 162 people. Understand Bournemouth is to be used. Some people were asked to leave because of cabin location relative to broken lifeboats. If they refused, others were asked. I suspect someone did the British thing of assuming as asked that they had to say yes and never considered saying no! Passengers we’re told that it was likely to be a Wednesday flight home.
  6. Not of late. Since Covid, it’s been x% of what you paid. I don’t believe P&O adjust for part taxes as P&O don’t charge them separately.
  7. Anyone travelling on a non commercial fare is likely to have been asked to leave the ship first. There are always head office staff/contractors travelling for work and or pleasure and it’s known that you get booted off first if necessary.
  8. I believe those passengers who requested to be flown home were granted their wish.
  9. I understand that the 20% FCC was only the compensation element. I expect this to be offered shipwide but can’t confirm at this stage. Anyone leaving the ship will also be entitled to a pro-rata refund under the standard terms and conditions, plus all arrangements made and paid for them back to Southampton. They may get a slightly better compensation element for the added inconvenience.
  10. The guest being moved from deck 8 are initially those in close proximity of impacted lifeboats. They are obstructed cabins and additional fixings/tarps may be put over the lifeboats to secure them.
  11. My understanding is that whilst anyone may be asked to fly home, if you can’t fly, have a medical reason, or specifically cruise to avoid flying then accommodations will be made to find someone else. This is different to if the whole ship having to be flown home when the option to remain would not be possible. A team from Southampton is now in Palma to run the repatriation, which may take a couple of days and involve guests overnighting in a hotel.
  12. It will be a dedicated charter flight im told. P&O will pick up the full tab including luggage charges. Correct - those who cannot fly won’t be forced. I’ve seen no notice that it’s cancelled yet. I would be expecting reduced capacity (if it was full).
  13. If it’s a heart attack and that time critical, it’s followed by the reason, deck x, zone y, port/starboard side. Leave no ambiguity of where assistance is required. An officer also attends to dispel ‘tourists’.
  14. It’s understandable some won’t want to continue and instead fly home. A team are already en route from Southampton to assist.
  15. P&O use plain English for Medical calls given out in full.
  16. This was literal rope snap. I’ve now seen the video and it confirms. Interestingly the person videoing knew exactly what was going to happen as he was backing away.
  17. Sadly it happens, and is the reason that you don’t usually queue across the gangways.
  18. Hearing damage to deck railing, one lifeboat and possibly one of the inflatable last resort crafts. Do remember, there is surplus lifeboat / inflatable capacity so no need to be concerned. That railing will be into the onboard metal work shop as soon as possible.
  19. Glad it sounds like everyone is ok. There will be a lot going on onboard at this time. Only once alongside can a full inspection can happen therefore tugs are a sensible precaution. It will have taken time whilst the bridge run through the berthing procedure for a terminal that wasn’t planned. As for why going out to anchor - it was safer than trying to hold position. They will have needed time to replace the lines and check their equipment. At sea, they can drop anchor rather than rely solely on thrusters. The F&B staff will be getting ready for a deluge of passengers. As for the cause, the lines if too slack don’t hold the ship, if too tight they can snap. So they are tightened to the right tension based on weight & weather. It seems that a sudden gust/gusts in the storm.
  20. If you’re not booked through P&O, you will be referred to the airline’s staff. On non charter flights, P&O tend to only have staff at the destination where you board.
  21. Overnights are well practiced on P&O. No curfew but shuttles do stop as mentioned earlier.
  22. I’m not being defensive but am surprised that the lifts are causing such issues. I fully understand the issues this causes and this is not my experience outside of peak passenger movement time. It would be interesting to see the stats for the cruise to understand if there is a high number of registered assistance passengers (including those with non visible conditions), children in buggies etc. I’d also be interested to see if there are any lifts out of service. A lift can be locked out of service without actually displaying out of service. It only takes a couple of lifts out of service to change the wait time massively. I think the lack of announcement at the start of the cruise is interesting. Who is the captain? On the atrium point, it was designed to make the view the feature, P&O have made no secret of this. That said, in Arvia a lot of the marble and silver is replaced by wood. The result is a much warmer feel. On the inside cabin point, these two ships were designed to attract new cruisers. New cruisers typically start with an inside cabin then upgrade on later cruises. I’d say on that count Mr Ludlow has done his job! On the gangway point, wheelchair access not usually mentioned if both are fine. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your cruise despite the lifts.
  23. Have you spoken to the staff? They don’t tend to interfere but will usually assist if you ask them too. The club mixes activities which are group focused together with individual play. Usually the first 30 mins or so is individual play whilst everyone arrives. Officially it’s a kids club and certainly not an individual child minding service but there are many variance points in between. I think the staff are approachable enough to keep an eye . I take your point about not leaving in an upset state however if you do get someone to keep an eye, get a pager - they can always call if that does get too much or still doesn’t settle.
  24. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your cruise. The decor on Arvia, especially the atrium have additional wood touches instead of silver and it improves the appearance.
