I looked up this old thread because I wanted to find the link that Bluemarble provided for the new deck plans showing the upcoming cabin re-categorization. The link worked at the time Bluemarble posted it, but when I click on it now, I get "Incorrect link". Does anyone have a current link to the new deck plans please? Thanks -S.

They are on Cunard's website at this page for 16th May 2014 onwards

Thanks Ray. I couldn't find them on Cunard's US website, but I know they were there at one time...anyway, now I've bookmarked it so I won't lose them! :)Thanks again, -S.

On a side note, if I book a DC-category stateroom with a guarantee is it possible that Cunard moves me to a sheltered balcony on decks 4-5-6? Because I would consider that a downgrade, even though there wouldn't be a great big lifeboat in my view.

FennoExpress, yes - my understanding is that booking a guaranteed category results in your getting any cabin in that category or a higher category (even if you don't feel it's a "better" cabin).

One time I booked a guarantee category on QM2 and was assigned a cabin in a higher category. I really didn't want the cabin I was given, so I called my travel agent to see if it could be changed. To make a long story short, the only way I could change the assigned cabin was to pay the additional rate for a cabin I chose in a different category. Just to mention that "guarantee" cabin assignments are often given just a few weeks prior to sale date - which means there may be limited availability if you want to change your assigned cabin. -S.

Yes. If you are assigned a stateroom that is ranked higher than the grade which you booked on a guarantee Cunard will consider that an upgrade even if you do not.

I've just been discussed prices for the QM2 Liverpool celebration cruise and 2 agents have given me prices for a BZ balcony but didn't seem sure what it was !

Has anyone come across BZ before ?

Thanks

Hattie the cattie, that's the first time I've heard of Category BZ on QM2. Did they tell you what deck it was on - or whether it's an obstructed or unobstructed balcony? -S.

They didn't know, they seemed to be looking at the same deck plans I was which didn't show a BZ ! I'm expecting a call back tomorrow with some more information.

Hattie, just a suggestion - ask them to specify the category: BZ as in bee zebra, as opposed to BC as in bee cat. -S.

Interesting thought but they both referred to bee zed so I don't think that's the issue. I'll report back when I've had some clarification.

Glad I didn't have the only confused T/A. I just told mine what area I'd prefer and (hopefully) will know what the knew grade is on Tuesday:)

I have just been told that the new BZ grade is equivalent to the old BD grade, ie, a sheltered balcony.

It looks as if BD is going to be split into BZ for forward & BY for aft.

Thanks Happyboating and hattie the cattie, that's very interesting. I wonder when the new-new deck plans will be available online - not that this is getting confusing! ;) :) -S.

Thanks, zider.

Personally, I'm not pleased that QM2 unobstructed balcony cabins on Deck 8 are included in so many B categories. Under this new categorization, I wouldn't book a guarantee cabin in anything below Cat BB because I wouldn't want to wind up in an unobstructed balcony cabin on Deck 8. -S.

With 10 years of service experience for QM2 one would have thought that Cunard had this balcony categorization settled by now. I used to think that the majority of QM2 passengers considered deck 4-5-6 sheltered balconies preferable to the deck 8 lifeboat obstructed ones. But as post #29 illustrates not everybody sees it that way.

BlueRigand, I agree. My personal experience is that all Britannia Category balcony cabins on deck 8 have an obstructed view to the right, the left and straight ahead. From my personal experience of unobstructed balconies on QM2 of Decks 4,5,6,8,11 and 12, my absolute least favorite was deck 8. Absolutely miserable view from a so-called "unobstructed" balcony.

I really have to wonder if the people who came up with this new categorization have actual experience of the ship. Whomever is running the show needs to get a grip and realize past passengers know the ship, and won't be suckered. I feel badly for travel agents who are scrambling to understand the new categories, but I feel worse for new passengers.

If this is a scramble to play with fares in an effort to increase revenue, my prediction is that it won't work - just my two cents (one farthing?) worth.
