johnlcruise Posted April 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2010 How long does it take to drive from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen? What is the best way to do it? Meeting some friends who are arriving by cruise in Playa
fiorile833 Posted July 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2010 I haven't done it yet but will be going and have done some research... For buses to Playa del Carmen go to the bus station in Downtown Cancún, located on the corner of Avenida Tulum and Uxmal. The main bus station in Playa del Carmen is located on the corner of Quinta Ave. and Avenida Juárez They have comfortable big buses to Playa and take you to the station right on Avenida Quinta, near the ferry pier to Cozumel. If you go south from the Playa station there is a pretty nice shopping center, and to the north is the long walk through all of Avenida Quinta, from which you can return along the beach for a good walk. From the Cancun Downtown bus station, which is on Tulum Avenue, it's only 70 Pesos (US $7) per person (round trip) to go to Playa del Carmen. You can only pay for the ticket of the one way trip, so you'll need to pay for the return trip on your way back from the Playa del Carmen station. The trip is only about 45 minutes to 1 hour, very quick Hope this helps! If you're back before July 31 let me know how it goes!!!
BSQ Posted July 8, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2010 (edited) The drive from the Hotel Zone in Cancun to Playa del Carmen is 45 minutes to about an hour, depending on traffic. It's an easy drive straight out on 307. Edited July 8, 2010 by BSQ

mrsfuzzmo Posted November 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) You can ride the ADO bus which is clearly stated above, or you can hop on the Collectivo! For about $3 US ($30 pesos) you get in the van and ride with lots of locals. The vans run constantly up and down the highway picking up and dropping off. It's easy and fun. Will take about 40 minutes depending on the number of stops. Edited November 18, 2011 by mrsfuzzmo
fkfad Posted August 4, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2012 We've done both the ADO bus and the Collectivo... Note that the Collectivo's last stop from Cancun is Playa. If you want to continue on to Akumal, you need to transfer to another Collectivo and you need to tell the driver you are getting off at Akumal. Otherwise, you'll be going for a ride to somewhere you were not intending to go to... :-) Also, if you don't speak Spanish, you need to make sure the driver heard you properly when you ask to be dropped off at Akumal... blue_water Posted August 29, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2012 (edited) Allow at least an hour. Traffic can back up at The towns and sometimes there are roadblocks at the police stops. As said easy drive but if you need to be there at a certain time allow a little extra time. You'll also need to park and get to your meeting spot. And insurance is a good idea. Gonedownlately? Posted November 16, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 16, 2012 Can anyone tell me what the taxi fare from Cancun airport to the ferry dock at Play del Carmen should be? There will 2 of us riding. Do you know what the ferry crossing to Cozumel is? Thanks for your kind assistance!
blue_water Posted November 16, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 16, 2012 I would recommend one of the popular airport transfer companies, pricing will be ~$22/pp for a shared van, or ~$100 for up to 5 ppl for a private van. For an upscale vehicle you can pay more. Ferry is ~$25pp roundtrip.
Gonedownlately? Posted November 17, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2012 I'll look for the van services; I suppose they're easy to spot...? With a handle like Blue Water, I'm guessing your a diver. Do you have a favorite dive shop on the island?
blue_water Posted November 17, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 17, 2012 You'll want to pre-book your transfer. We have used Olympus, Lomas, and others, you can get expert advice on that from folks who use these regularly on the Cancun forum on tripadvisor too. We don't dive, just snorkel. We just love the waters of the Caribbean. You can also get dive shop recommendations on TA.
Chileancruiser Posted December 31, 2014 #13 Share Posted December 31, 2014 We used Canada Transfers that worked well. Bonus is you can have s couple of beers for the ride. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
blue_water Posted January 2, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 2, 2015 You can also just hop the ADO bus for next to nithing and no need to pre-book. If you just miss the bus there are shared vans for $35 stationed there.
TheWulf Posted January 9, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) To be honest, the Collectivo is dead easy and only $3. Most of the vans are brand new, clean and very comfortable, and they run often. It really is the easiest way to get around and drops you right downtown PDC. Of course if you want to do it the fun way, take the ferry over to Cozumel, spend the day and then take one back to PDC. Only $10 each way and a fun side-trip. blue_water Posted January 15, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 15, 2015 Can anyone tell me what the taxi fare from Cancun airport to the ferry dock at Play del Carmen should be? There will 2 of us riding. Do you know what the ferry crossing to Cozumel is? Thanks for your kind assistance! For anyone still researching this there are helpful links on the PDC forum page (Airport transfers and the ADO bus links). This thread also has some advice - http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g150812-i23-k8043807-o10-Transfers_from_Cancun_Airport_to_Playa_taxes_extras-Playa_del_Carmen_Yucatan_Peninsula.html The ferry to Coz is about $11US one way. SelectSys Posted August 15, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Can anyone tell me what the taxi fare from Cancun airport to the ferry dock at Play del Carmen should be? There will 2 of us riding. Do you know what the ferry crossing to Cozumel is? Thanks for your kind assistance! The ADO station in Playa is no more than a 2-3 minute walk to the ferry. Both the bus and the ferry go quite frequently. Super simple connection unless you are loaded down with baggage. No need for a cab at all.
