4th and probably not the last Royal Caribbean Cruise

Recommended Posts

I really enjoy cruising and RCI has a provided a great experience on our previous four cruises. So much so that we have another booked in 3 months. We would go more often but the wife went back to nursing school so it limits our vacation time for the next year. :(

Any way, I really enjoy Captain Morgan and diet Coke and the wife enjoys her wine with an occasional frozen drink mixed in for good measure. RCI doesn't allow us to carry on liquor so to solve our problem of having drinks without being able to carry them on we don't smuggle and instead purchase drinks from one of the many fun and exciting bars on board. Amazingly this has never caused us a problem as the drinks have tasted great and we don't have be to bothered with carrying it on ourselves, mixing drinks or trying to make frozen drinks without a blender.

So in anticipation of our upcoming cruise, and to help pass the time in an enjoyable way, I thought I would start this thread about one of the many pleasures of cruising.

There are so many pleasures of cruising - from the anticipation of the cruise - first boarding - making new friends - experiencing new ports.....just about everything.

Getting involved in your cruise thread helps to make the cruise more enticing and participating in the M&M is a must.

Cruising is definitely addictive!!!!!

I'd like to say the countdown is half the enjoyment...but man is it tense! :D

Thankfully Cruise Critic is hear to help some of the days pass by a little quicker while building the anticipation!

...couldn't have said it better! And it all starts with the "ding" from the sea pass card upon boarding.

I think I'd really enjoy cruising with you.

Thanks. You as well. Generally you can find me in the Schooner Bar or the Casino.

I'm trying to pass the time until my next cruise in an enjoyable and (un)productive way. :) Sometimes the negativity gets to be a little much which is too bad because CC is such a wealth of information with many great members as well.

A little dose of reality helps, too. Some things just aren't worth getting worked up over.

I really enjoy the "smell" of royal's ships!! I don't know how to explain it....it's a mix between clean and saltwater-either way, I love it!!! I've always noticed it on Royal's ships....it must be the cleaners they use, but anytime I think about vacation, this is the first thing that pops into my head. And the ding sound of course :)

I agree with the drinks-we usually do smuggle something on (I know, it's bad...) but the last few cruises we have had maybe one drink out of our supply. We just spend way too much time out of the cabin and they really do make good, strong drinks (in our experience) That's the a big reason why we like cruising more then all inclusives-we could save a bunch of money by going to all inclusive resorts, but we never seem to get the right drink. At least when we're paying for the drinks on a cruise, we're getting exactly what we want. I sound a bit like a lush...we do cruise for a lot more reasons then alcohol!!!!

I'm pretty sure I know what sparked this post...thank you for the chuckle.

You must be one of them there Cheerleaders! :p

I hear you. It would take a lot for me to visit a cruising website, or any website, for that matter and try to sway public opinion against a particular brand. At this juncture, RCI hasn't even come close to making me even slightly annoyed. I came close when we tried an all-inclusive vacation but that's about it.

It's funny, we don't bother smuggling but I couldn't care less if others do. So I'm going to take this opportunity to not criticize you for it. :D

And if you want to talk about lush...I started a thread about enjoying purchasing drinks and patronizing the bars on board!

We tried an AI and will never do that again!!:eek:

Hi! I mainly wanted to sympathize with you dismay at the negativity, it's something I hate to see. The kid (I guess really more parent) bashing just about did it for me a few days ago! I cannot understand what the big deal is about alcohol either - the prices don't seem out of line with drink prices at many vacation locales. And I guess I'm not sophisticated enough to need a particular wine.

And I wanted to add that I'm going to nursing school too (my post stay at home mom career) - one more year for me. We are thinking of taking a cruise for graduation in a year, it's a good excuse :) I can totally sympathize with the time constraints - ours are complicated by kid's vacations not syncing up on too of the demands of nursing school. But, as your wife probably feels, it's worth the sacrifices to have a career that is rewarding in many ways. Good luck to her!

I don't think the drink prices are unreasonable in the least bit. Unreasonable drink prices are the hotel's prices that we stay at the night before!

I've taken vacations from the cruise line board from time to time. It gets a little overwhelming sometimes. It is nice to converse with fellow cruisers on the Roll Calls though.

Congratulations on Nursing School! My wife has one year left as well. She's also taking a summer class so it leaves us with exactly a 3 week window to cruise in August.

A friend says she much prefers the AI to cruising because her liquor is included. One of the reasons I like cruising is because I get a great base price and get to add on what I want. And I'm not stuck in the same place the whole trip. To each his/her own!

A lot of people say that about the liquor included but I wasn't a fan of the drinks they offered or the watered down wine. I also didn't like the effects of the water.

We also prefer cruising because of the options available for activities. We don't need to be busy 24/7 but do enjoy stopping at different ports or just staying on board lying by the pool. Having the options is great. :)
