Host Hattie Posted July 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2018 From the Cunard website "Specialist cleaning services Wet cleaning is a professional, aqueous cleaning process for sensitive and non-washable garments. The wet cleaning process was invented in 1991 by Kreussler & Co GmbH in cooperation with Miele. Wet cleaning avoids the use of chemical solvents. Environmental groups and the United States Environmental Protection Agency have indicated that such alternative "wet cleaning" methods are better for the environment than chemical solvents and proponents of wet cleaning state that these methods can be used without shrinking or otherwise damaging garments that typically require dry cleaning. * Typically, wet cleaning involves the use of a professional wet cleaning machine using water, biodegradable soaps and conditioners, and various types of pressing and re-shaping equipment that may be specialized for many different fabric and fibre*types. The most important aspect of successful wet cleaning is experience and knowledge of different types of fabrics and proper ways to finish garments by operators * According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), wet cleaning is the most environmentally sensitive professional method of garment cleaning. It does not use hazardous chemicals, it does not generate hazardous waste, nor does the process create air pollution and it reduces the potential for water and soil contamination. The specialized detergents and conditioner used in the wet clean process are milder than home laundry products."

Thank you but my concerns in using this method are (1) having had some garments previously cleaned in the usual Dry Cleaning manner then if I use this method is there a risk that when I go back to using the old method are my clothes going to get ruined. (2) What happens if by using this method something gets ruined will Cunard compensate a passenger if they ruin something.

cruiseluvva Posted July 14, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2018 They are quite cautious. I sent something to be specialist cleaned and they sent it back, saying they couldn’t guarantee it would be ok.
Underwatr Posted July 14, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2018 Someone here posted about an expensive tuxedo being damaged by the wet cleaning process. I don't know why a standard dry cleaning would be an issue after the new process, assuming the garment wasn't damaged by the wet cleaning.
VintageCCG Posted July 14, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2018 On a related point, what are the prices like for on board dry cleaning and laundry? If it's reasonable enough then I can take fewer suits etc. and recycle them more often during my 2-way crossing this summer. Of course I plan to take advantage of the self-laundry but it's convenient to get my shirts done professionally when available. I'd also seen somebody mention an all-in deal by the bag at turnaround in Southampton, is that offered regularly? Thanks for any insights! bluemarble Posted July 14, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2018 On a related point, what are the prices like for on board dry cleaning and laundry? ... Transcribed from the laundry services form on our recent QM2 voyages. I have formatted the price list in a fixed-pitch font with dots to pad the columns so that it will line up reasonably well in a browser. Probably won't look quite so good in the smartphone app. Note this also includes a statement from Cunard regarding liability for lost or damaged items. ============================================= CUNARD Laundry, specialist cleaning and pressing services. Elephant1151 Posted July 15, 2018 #13 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Just returned from QM2 19 days Independence Day Cruise. My son had a blazer dry cleaned it was very well done. On the first leg to New York laundry promotion 20 items for $40 offered. But not on the 5 nights to St John and Boston or on the return transatlantic. I used the ships laundry for formal and regular shirts. Other items were taken to the launderette I found they opened early so got there ASAP. I always take my own detergent. MarkBearSF Posted July 16, 2018 #16 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Last year in May, we were on a RT crossing (16 days because Bruges) and no specials were offered. (This was following a week in NY and we don't do laundry on vacation). No worries - although I could've used a promo. ...but as a previous poster mentioned, they aren't unknown! Luckily once you hit Platinum, you get a discount (AFTER you've used up your credits). - Mark
