travelplus Posted March 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2018 If you want to save money then go against what the cruise ine wants you to do. If you see a good deal in an interior or Ocean iew book it. Free liquor tasting go for it and you can ask for more with the crowds they won't say no. Skip all the upsales and avoid the casino. At the Captain's Party give a tip to the server and ask for something else. Drink all the local wines and spirits in port not onboard. Enjoy that European picnic with wine cheeses meats breads desserts etc. On shore excursions instead of going shopping go to a local bar or restaurant for a meal. Ask for hot milk and make your own lattes with the hot chocolate packages. Attend the Shore Talks and record the audio on your phone to accss later and take all the excursion brochures and have a taxi driver help you assemble a private tour. Don't want to spend money on Specialty Dining then ask your server to have the Chef cook dishes from his home country ask for Chai Tea etc. You can add to this thread and comment too. Rare Keith1010 Posted March 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2018 Some good advice for those who want to save money. Avoid impulse buying on the ship or off the ship. Keith
sverigecruiser Posted March 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 20, 2018 On shore excursions instead of going shopping go to a local bar or restaurant for a meal. Even better is to be back on the ship in time for lunch. No reason to pay extra for a meal when they are included in the cruisefare!
footballbabe3 Posted April 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 28, 2018 Wait wait. Your saying ask a chef on a ship with thousands of people to cook you a totally different meal? Am I getting this correct? If this is what you are saying why are you cruising? Why should you have a different meal then everyone else on the ship. Sorry that’s rude. One time on Carnival Paradise a few years ago, we spoke at length with the chef after the Chef's Table, and he offered to make us an Indian feast the next evening in the MDR. When we arrived we asked the Maitre 'd to let the chef know, and we were buried in absolutely delicious Indian dishes. Best email we ever had on a cruise.

If you have the same servers every night , you get to know them and can ask them if there is a food available from their country that they recommend. We have had servers bring us food from the crew dining areas. They implied they cooked it themselves, just for us, but I am sure it was from their mess.
