Just off the Ecstasy

In a basic review... our service was excellent, the food was standard fare (no lobster for our 7 day cruise), the motion was far above usual, most entertainment was very good in (especially the comedy club and the piano bar), we tried 2 of the 'shows' and walked out of both (first time ever)! We had FTTF and it was well worth it after delayed boarding caused sizable lines. Any questions... I would be happy to answer what I can... have fun on your next sailing...

Going on girls cruise in April! We are soooo excited! have purchased FTTF! Just wondering does something show up when you print your boarding documents? Doing the 5 night cruise! Im a little worried about motion sickness for everyone since this is a smaller ship, obviously we need to all take something! Also did you do the drink package are they very strict about the number of drinks?

When you have FTTF, it's on your boarding pass as well as your luggage tags. Then once you get your S&S, it's a sticker on there as well.

We were on the Ecstasy in February (5 day) and it was pretty rocky the whole trip. I started taking Bonine the day before we left and each day after. No problem w sea sickness.

As far as the shows go... we tried 2 as well- walked out of both too🤣🤣. The adult comedy was great tho.

We enjoyed cruising on the Ecstasy twice. It's a great little ship. I'm surprised there wasn't any lobster. We had it on the first Elegant night on both cruises.

Thanks for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a great cruise wherever you go next.

Did you enjoy the cruise overall? Why no lobster on your 7 day cruise? I thought lobster was served on 1st elegant night on cruises longer than 5 days.

Yes we did enjoy it. The lobster was only listed on the extra $20 menu. They never gave a reason why, but we did have 2 formal nights so that was a bit of a disappointment.

Do you know what caused the delayed boarding? Just wondered if you were notified in advance.

No Even the shuttle driver from the parking to the pier was frustrated. He said that he had never seen this happen in the past (at least that long). They never officially addressed it.

FTTF will show on your boarding pass. We took Meklazine for the motion and it worked fine (even with excessive motion). They were very strict with the drink package. Some people were frustrated because they had recently sailed other Carnival ships and were allowed to purchase drinks outside of the drink package before hitting the 15 drink limit to ensure that they would not get cut off... The bar tender said "not on this ship" and they were firm.

As for the lobster, I never tried ordering it off of the $20 menu but one of kids thought they heard a waiter say that the quality was not up to par so they would not be serving it. I cannot verify that for sure.... so I guess I really don't know. We never got the Baked Alaska either.

I remember reading one of the famous Jamman reviews that they weren't happy with the lobster tail. They took a picture and it was most unappetizing, very dark in colour. The explanation was that it was from warm waters. So maybe there's been a lot of complaints.

As for the baked alaska, we just got off the Victory and had it. It has changed since the last time we had it back in 2015. Much improved! Did they say why it wasn't available?

I kept expecting it to show up 'tomorrow' and when the last night came and it wasn't there, things were busy and I forgot to ask.

I was on the same sailing, so I thought I would put in my quick review here as well. (I may do a longer separate one later). I had a great time. It was very rough for the first 2 days, so much so that they actually could not dock at Nassau. My wife was sea sick so I still went out and made the most of it. I volunteered for every thing and I was sitting in the front of most of the playlist production shows that both my children and I really enjoyed.

The cruise director Brittney and her assistant Houston were amazing. They were a lot of fun and all over the ship. We ended up taking home 5 ships on a stick as a family and many medallions playing all of the games.

The Ecstasy rarely does 7 day cruises, so many of the things that are done on other 7 day cruises are not done here.

Highlights:

1) Grand turk snorkling

Most of the ship snorkeling excursions were canceled because of heavy waves and cloudy waters. However since we brought our own equipment we headed south of the cruise port along a dirt road for about 500m to a deserted beach with 100's of Conch shells a nice beach area to enter the water and a coral reef that had some interesting coral and fish. At one point we found ourselves in a school of 1000's of little silver fish that turned and reacted to us. It was not as clear as it could have been, and it required strong swimming to navigate the currents and waves but it was a lot of fun!

2) Games and Activities

I really enjoyed the games and activities on the ship. I did my best to participate in as many as possible. Our family got a reputation when we won twice in a row for trivia (Weird laws and a general knowledge, although the score wasn't really high for either of them, we just got lucky at some guesses)

3) Shows

I really liked the play list production shows, especially 'the Brits' and the Broadway singer (I forget his name right now)

4) Piano bar

I really enjoyed going to the piano bar in the evenings to sing along. I like singing so it was nice to have an opportunity where this was encouraged.

Things that could be improved

1) It would be nice to have family dancing time. The night club didn't open until 10:30 PM,why could they not open it for family dancing from 8:00 - 10:00?

2) It would be nice to move the trivia and activities away from the casino and smoking bar.

They also had the trivia in the atrium bar, but I agree a lounge would have been much more enjoyable. Brittany was awesome! I enjoyed the motion ;p;p;) My husband was at the piano bar most nights (actually found Sam on FB). We rented Gulf Carts from Wet Money on Grand Turk... it ran out of gas and the owner gave us attitude when he came to bring gas "you could have pushed it"! Oh well, all in the adventure right! I would sail her again... just would like hotter weather.

When I was on the ship in October, we never had it. Like you, I expected it to show up- I loved Baked Alaska. We did have lobster on the first formal night (every other night, it was extra cost). My lobster was good, but that was October so a lot may have changed.

I'm glad to hear everyone had a good trip otherwise. Half Moon Cay is my favorite beach- and I live in Charleston, in driving distance of multiple beaches. Plus I've been on other cruises and to other islands, but HMC is the best.

The room steward should ask you at the beginning of the cruise whether you would like service in the am, pm, or both.
