Happy New Year from Sun Princess

Happy New Year to all. We are on the Sun Princess just about to get ready for Formal night/New Years Eve party.

We left Ft Lauderdale and have been sailing for 2.5 days. We are just about to enter the caribbean sea and I will be pleased as the sea has been quite rough. Our arrival in St Vincent is delayed due to the weather slowing down the ship.

Question that was asked prior to leaving was how is the air conditioning. Well

I have to say it is not great. It works but in the public area's it is very warm.

There is also a couple of times we have noticed a sewage smell. Other than that all is fine with the ship. New Internet cafe is excellent.

Well ask any questions and I will try and answer them for you.

Julie

Hoping you have a wonderful cruise & enjoyed your New Year's celebration on board ship. What do they do special for New Year's Eve? When you have time, fill us in on how St. Vincent port tour was. How warm is it weather wise? We will be sailing on the Sun for the Feb 27, 10 day voyage & greatly looking forward to it as we had a very bad experience on our recent cruise to Hawaii on the Norwegian Wind in Nov. Also, hoping you get to enjoy Grenada & that some of the damaged foilage is starting to regenerate. How is the entertainment & food? Enjoy rest of your cruise.

Hi Julieh

thanks for keeping in touch with all of us.

Could you tell us how the food is in the dining room in the horizon court.

Especially how is the entertainment in wheelhouse bar and disco. Is there any "action" what kind of music are they playing. How are the shows in the theaters.

what kind of room do you have and where is it.

What is the average age of the passengers.

Enjoy your cruise - it goes by so fast.

thanks

Hi all

Try and answer a few questions for you.

St Vincent was a waste of a port in my opinion. We arrived 3 hrs late due to the rough seas so docked at 4pm. Everywhere was closed and it was too late to take a tour as it was going dark. Had a quick walk but not a very nice area so got back on ship.

We have a mini-suite on Baha deck midship. It is nice but prefer the one's on tha back as they are larger. There is very little storage space.

Food in Horizon court is ok but does seem to be more limited. Handwash has to be used everytime before you enter, even when re-entering, which is a good thing.

Not sure what the new machines are in the Casino so cant comment.

PC dining restaurant is very disorganised. People having to wait a long time so would advise reserving a table even then may not be on time.

Aircon is not as good as it normally is and you can smell sewage as you walk round the ship

New internet cafe is excellent.

Hope I have answered all questions

Julie< I assume you have free internet being a repeat customer with Princess, but could you let me know how much they charge a first timer? Would like to be able to email to my little girls back home.

Thankyou,

Erica (We are on the sun 2/7)

Well Shelby Cruiser, is your name Shelby or are your from Shelby Twp.? Good to have you aboard on the 27th. You might want to jump on the the link below to the roll call for that voyage and join our merry group of the Foo-Foo Chowder and Marching Society. (Read the postings there and you'll get the idea.)

Anyway, let us know what your plans are if any and we'd be glad to have you join us at the Sailway Party.

Hi All

Yes we do have free internet access which is great! Payment for internet is $0.35 per minute. The Sports deck is fine.

New Years Eve there was a party in the Atrium from 11.30 to 00.30. Legacy were playing and there was a countdown and streamers, trumpets blowing and balloons falling. It was a lively atmosphere. Weather has been very warm however, in St Lucia today and not as warm yet. May be later. Genada was wonderful and the people so happy to see us. There is still damage but didn't cause us any problems. Entertainment is ok and food is good.

Food in Horizon court seems more limited than when we were on the Sea and the Dawn. Wheelhouse bar is good. Legacy are great and there is a trio I think called Ray Miller but haven't seen them yet. Mixed age's on board.

The sea has been really choppy this voyage. Better now we are in the caribbean sea but still not as calm as in previous years.

Srpilo - Prefered the Dawn.

Baby - my opinion - wouldn't go on the Sun again

Hope this answers all questions.

Hi Grego from Novi - Yes, we are from Shelby Twp. & just signed on roll call. We are new to the internet, so bear with us, still learning. Thanks for the roll call info. We are Larry & Donna - Looking forward to seeing & meeting everyone onboard ship. ;)

I responded to your posting on the Roll Call Board, so I won't repeat myself here.

Glad to see another couple from Michigan. We have quite a few from England, two couples from Ontario, and the rest are mostly from the Midweast and East Coast.

What are your travel arrangements to Ft. Lauderdale? Are you flying or driving and are you getting in the day before or just in time? (Not nosey, just making conversation)

We are driving down to arrive a couple of days early to be with our Novi neighbors that have a house in Vero Beach. They are trying very hard to get us to buy something down there as well, but as long as they have a place there so do we:D .

It looks like you have sailed on quite a few different lines with one voyage previously on Princess. The Sun was a really nice ship for us last February and it's hard to get a read on what she is like now. Quite a few negative remarks, but I wonder if they are really warranted. It doesn't matter , we are going anyway and will have a great time.

Congratulations on being retired and enjoying the cruise life. We are looking forward to the former while we experience the latter.

Happy New Year,

Greg

St. Vincent was always configured to be a short day anyway and over the last couple of years we have experienced force strength winds which have caused delays getting to the first port from Port Everglades, especially if it is a distance South.

Most of us taking this ship within the next couple of months are just planning on using St. Vincent as a chance to get ashore and walk around a bit. There is plenty to see near port if you look around and with four more islands in a row coming up, it's nice to unwind here a bit before moving on to Grenada.

We're looking forward to the aft mini-suite, but I can't believe there isn't much storage in the suites mid-ships. We were in a balcony on Aloha deck and there was plenty of space for luggage under the bed and clothes in the drawers and in the closet. The rule is if you can't find enough room, then ya brought too much!
