Rysyonok Posted September 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2009 Has anyone watched this earlier tonight? It was extremely informative - and shocking. They actually showed how fares on the same flight in the same class ranged from under $50 to over $700, with the last-minute passengers paying the most. It also explained how come it seems like it's cheaper to fly further, as an airline may hold back seats on short-range flights (say, New York to Washington) for its long-range passengers (say, London - New York - Washington). As a result, the first ticket may seem cheaper than the second one, even though the second one covers much more distance... I hope NBC puts it up on their site for online viewing as well. Rare FlyerTalker Posted September 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 7, 2009 Remember that the program is over 2 years old. Though many things remain valid, keep that time frame in mind.
Rysyonok Posted September 7, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted September 7, 2009 Remember that the program is over 2 years old. Though many things remain valid, keep that time frame in mind. This explains why they referred to 2008 as the future in one segment... thanks :)
SelectSys Posted September 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2009 ...I hope NBC puts it up on their site for online viewing as well. This show is presented on CNBC every six months or so. It looks like you can buy a DVD of the show but I don't think you can watch it via a video stream at this point. If you're interested, you can look at a listing of CNBC's original programming here: http://www.cnbc.com/id/15837856 BTW - I agree that the show is a good introduction to how the airline business operates and the issues that are discussed still apply today. fbgd Posted September 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2009 The full thing is, or was, on hulu.com recently. I remember seeing it when it first came out and it was pretty interesting covering a lot of areas of the working of the airline. To be honest most of it wasn't news to me but good nonetheless especially for someone with a passing interest in the workings of civil aviation. There was a similar one a few weeks ago, also presented by Peter Greenberg, on NCL that was quite interesting though I'm much more of a flying nerd than a cruise nerd. personnext Posted September 8, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2009 Ummm...why is this shocking? This is how airlines work. This is how all airlines work. Its how air travel is cheap for most. Be thankful for it.
