OK, please forgive me. Im sure this has been asked time and again.

 

But, what is Carnivals policy regarding newborn fees?

 

when we are thinking of going our son will be about 1 yr old, I know our flight is 'free' but is Carnival really going to make us pay a full 3rd person

it just doesnt make any sense... i know its easy as far as systems etc... but come on, does a newborn eat as much or need to tip his / her steward 10 bucks a day?

 

Me and my wife are dying to figure this out as we signed up for the 'where next' program so we're itching, we just want to make it economical or at least have him enroled in CC

I think you should look at this another way. Because you paid full 3rd person rate if the ship goes down he gets a seat in the lifeboat, if not he/she stays on the sinking ship!

 

But all kidding aside the ship is only allowed to have so many passengers aboard he is 1 passenger. Age, weight etc don't matter in this case.

Every airline is slightly different with their policy, but most probably are similar as they are in competition with each other. I just picked up my brother, SIL & niece (14 mo.) on Sat. They only fly SWA and their policy is: under 2 fly free as long as the infant sits on the lap of one of the adults. They were able to get a great rate on this flight ($49.00) so they bought a third seat which allowed them to bring on a car seat. Maybe that was what see meant by changing the rules, because they wanted to bring on a car seat which required an additional ticket.

I cant believe people think a infant is less trouble for their cabin steward. Boggles my mind... they think small equals less work. All those stinky diapers the steward has to deal with, making up a crib, unfolding the pack n play every night ...I just never get it?? A baby is a lot of work.

 

3rd fare is discounted from the 1/2nd pax in the cabin so it is a discounted rate.

I looked into a price for a cabin with my 18 month old grandchild as the third passenger. Regardless of age the third and fourth passengers pay the same fare (which is lower than the 1st 2 passengers). You also are expected to pay the tip per diem. Occassionally cruise lines will advertise an inexpensive fare for 3rd and 4th passengers. You could start looking for those fare specials.

There are other cruise lines such as Disney that do not charge for children under 3. But then they do not have casino and it's a true "family" vacation cruise. Really, no adult shows, they have some clubs and your limited to 10 hours of babysitting. So depending on what you're looking for. You have options. Pay the 3rd person rate. Go on Disney. Or leave the baby with Grandma.

Yes, the 3rd person rate will apply. They aren't "making" anyone pay it... It simply is what it is.

 

You can choose to cruise and pay it....or not....your choice.:D

You are not being serious are you? A baby is more work than an adult. All the diapers they have to get rid of, the crib that they have to put away in the morning, (they have to make room to clean your Stateroom) then put it back out at night. Changing the sheets on said crib every day, sometimes more if the baby is using it to nap.

 

Pay the $10.00 a day and please do not say it is not worth it. If you are so worried about the price maybe you should leave your baby with grandma/grandpa/anyone.

We have the same predicament. Our son will be 1 year old wen we sail in 2010.

 

YES, your baby will pay whatever the 3rd/4th rate is. The reason that Carnival gave me regarding this is that a baby on a cruise ship counts towards the total passenger manifest (contrary to the airlines where an infant in arms doesn't count towards the total passenger manifest).

 

Because they count towards the total passenger manifest, they pay since that's one adult passenger less that can sail.

 

Feels a bit unfair since the baby won't be able to eat any of the food or participate in Camp Carnival activities since he will be less than two, but we dont want to leave him behind with grandma, so we're willing to pay accordingly

Infant whose parents claim he/she is 18 mos but in reality is 3 years old: PAYS!

It's my understanding that those automatic tips can be downgraded onboard by the passenger. If I had a baby, I would do so to reflect the fact that the baby isn't causing any work for anybody but the cabin steward. Unless the waiter is heating up bottles, etc.

While the infant will not eat as much the workers on the ship work just as

hard or harder for a infant. In addition they loose $ as the infant is not buying

pictures or drinks, etc.

 

 

You need to look at this at a different view. If you did leave your infant

with a friend or grandma. Then CCL will be able to sell this to a paying adult

or older child. So it not nothing to do with the age but one of the PAX on the

ship.

First of all, CCL will NOT allow an infant less than six months old to cruise on a domestic cruise. The price of the cruise has nothing to do with how much food is consumed... it has to do with revenue from each passenger (yes, Carnival is a profit making enterprise:D). An infant traveling is counted in the full capacity of the ship, but generates no additional revenue to the ship. And, to the best of my knowledge, children under two years are not charged tips.

I just booked my cruise with my twins who will be 16 months at time of travel. We pre-paid tips and only paid $100.00 for a 5 night cruise. That means we were NOT charged tips for the twins. Their room rate was $339 (or something) per child... our room rate was $1079 per adult (penthouse).

 

Are we still going to tip for the twins? YES ;)

I don't think that many people consider a 1 yr. old a newborn. Sometimes the smaller the "package" the more trouble they can cause.

I'll take the trouble caused by a 1 yr old before I take the trouble caused by some drunken adults who don't know how to behave themselves in public places...
