PJLDAWN Posted September 28, 2009 #1 Posted September 28, 2009 Would greatly appreciate hearing from any and all re whether they found they needed sweaters, wraps, etc. to keep warm during any aspect of a sailing in French Polynesia - whether inside the Paul Gauguin, or on deck in the evening. We're packing for 1 Oct departure from home. Many thanks. Patrick and Dawn
Wendy The Wanderer Posted September 28, 2009 #2 Posted September 28, 2009 You do not need a sweater, unless you are very susceptible to chills. It is very warm generally, especially out on deck. The dining rooms and other public spaces can be a bit cool, so bring a wrap, but make it a silk one--wool not needed.
Jim B Posted September 28, 2009 #3 Posted September 28, 2009 If it helps take a look at PG "PACKING LIST" thread on this site.
PJLDAWN Posted September 28, 2009 Author #4 Posted September 28, 2009 :D Wendy, You say a sweater is not needed, but a wrap may be useful. My wife won't let me wear a wrap. Do the men wear sweaters in the cool parts of the ship? Thanks. Pat (Patrick)
newlondon Posted September 28, 2009 #5 Posted September 28, 2009 Men do not need a sweater-at least I didn't. If, however, you get sunburned you may want a light long sleeve shirt to combat the air conditioning.
kandocruise Posted September 28, 2009 #6 Posted September 28, 2009 Patrick and Dawn: Bon Voyage! This is very unrelated to your question about clothing. (And, I agree with the others - you will not need a wrap/sweater - except for maybe in the showroom lounge with the ac.) We have cruised several times on the PG, and are still thinking about cruise for this year. Our concern is if there has been a big turnover with crew members - as the ship is leaving the Regent fleet later this year. If we provided some names of crew members, would you mind letting us know when you got home - if they were still working onboard? We would most appreciate it!! Kath
Wendy The Wanderer Posted September 29, 2009 #7 Posted September 29, 2009 I once met a woman on board the PG who had had serious burns over large parts of her body, with skin grafts. *She* needed a sweater, and in fact a wet suit when she swam. But short of that, nobody needs a sweater.
egret Posted September 29, 2009 #8 Posted September 29, 2009 I always need a sweater for the airplane trip, so I always have one with me on the PG or any other place far away. My wife feels the chill often in the dining rooms so she usual has something to put over her shoulders, either a sweater or a shawl. I don't think I ever needed anything at night on deck.
PJLDAWN Posted September 29, 2009 Author #9 Posted September 29, 2009 Well, thanks, Egret. You reminded me that we also need something for the airplane so the sweater/wrap will be available to us on the PG. Fellow passengers should watch for the guy in the sweater on the PG's 3 Oct voyage. I'll follow up for this on my return. Pat
PJLDAWN Posted September 29, 2009 Author #10 Posted September 29, 2009 Kath, Would be happy to check on crew members and let folks know. Pat
Emdee Posted September 29, 2009 #11 Posted September 29, 2009 Can you also find out if Dion will be the CD in November? Thanks Miriam
kandocruise Posted September 30, 2009 #12 Posted September 30, 2009 Pat: Thank you! We would love to know if the band, Siglo, will be onboard the rest of this year. Also crew members, Kelly (guy), Clifford, Norman, and Tess. Safe journeys to you both and have a great, great time on the PG! Kathy
Wendy The Wanderer Posted September 30, 2009 #13 Posted September 30, 2009 Don't get your hopes up about Siglo--we missed them last December, they were off for their well-earned rest.
Neengay Posted September 30, 2009 #14 Posted September 30, 2009 Dining room can be cool in the evening so bring a sweater or wrap. Or better yet, wait and buy a pareo to wear as a wrap. I wore mine on Polynesian night!
Elquailo Posted October 1, 2009 #15 Posted October 1, 2009 My wife occasionally used a wrap, no sweaters or anything like that. I was comfortable in short sleeves everywhere, all week. Siglo is on for the next couple of weeks, then off on vacation, then back in January unless they decide to take a better offer. We talked with them about this... Cheers, Ken
