Last Week on the CB

I am still trying to get back to reality since getting home late last night, but I wanted to post on here that I had a fabulous first cruise, and that the CB is a magnificent ship!

There were two disappointments, neither of which anyone could do anything about. One, while my doctor had good intentions, the patch he prescribed me did not work. For the first two days I was very ill. But, I brought some Bonine with me, and after that got into my system, I recovered and had a great cruise. The other was the weather in Bar Harbor. It rained and was foggy the entire day. It was the one port we were hoping would be great, since my husband had been there as a teen and saw nothing but fog the entire time. But, we had a great loster lunch and made the most of the day by shopping. ;)

It really was a wonderful time. We loved our balcony. Our waiter was awesome! My husband made the finals of the karaoke contest and had a great time with that. I won $100 in Bingo (of course I spent as much because it was lots of fun). We loved Skywalkers. Didn't do bad in the casino. The comdedian was hilarious (he came on in Bar Harbor) and I was picked to help the magician in the second show of his magic act the first night. My husband told me we were choosing the wrong seats, but I told him, nah, he'll pick one of the cute girls sitting down from us. I was embarrassed, but we laughed and enjoyed it anyway.

I wish I could write everything down here, but alot of it is still a blur. If anyone has questions, please ask. I will be doing my review tonight or tomorrow.

Hopefully the difficult time you had in the beginning won't linger in your memory and stop you from cruising again. I've been on 4 cruises so far, and each time I've learned a lesson and have then employed such lessons on my next cruise. You'll figure out the sea sickness thing, and other little things, with each new cruise you take. I've almost got the cruising thing down to an exact science, and expect to perfectly enjoy cruise #5. I wish you well on your future cruises.

What ship is CB?

Sorry about the problems you had but it's good that neither had anything to do with the ship itself.

I hope you do write about a couple of things before we leave this Thursday to meet up with the ship on Saturday. Let us know what you ended up doing in the ports and what level the fall colors were at.

Welcome home. Glad to hear you were able to enjoy your cruise, notwithstanding the first couple of days and the fog. You picked a wonderful time of year to cruise New England, though, as you found out the weather can be a bit unpredictable. Sounds like it was good for the most part, though. We board the CB, ourselves, in 12 short days. Can't wait. :D

In Halifax, we went to Peggy's Cove. This was a wonderful excursion. The waves were huge that day and we got some great photo and video footage. We also did the pub tour. Way too much fun!! I highly recommend this excursion. We toured three pubs and had a beer at all three. There was a band, a bagpipe, and some very bright colored sau'westers that "capped" the fun. ;)

In Saint John we didn't take any excursions, mainly because we were right in between high and low tide. We walked around, shopped and ate. It was a nice, leisurely port day. Beautiful Victorian homes to see.

Bar Harbor was the Cadillac Mountain tour. On a good weather day I can imagine this would have been great. As it was, the lobster bake made up for the lack of views. The shopping was great here, as there are a lot of shops, both touristy and a little more high end.

Boston was very educational. We took the Revolutionary Experience tour and also toured Harvard.

Newport was all about the mansions. All I could say was WOW! That was probably the most worth-it tour (aside from the Pub tour in Halifax).

Now, to us there was a negative to the excursions. All that riding in a bus is tiresome (and sometimes worrisome, as those bus drivers aren't afraid of high speeds and fast curves ) and aside from the Newport mansions, there wasn't alot of time we had off the bus. We were always on a time crunch (understandable) and never felt like we had as much time as we wanted. Of course, this beats having to tour all these places on our own, spending way too much money in the end. But next time I think we'll spread out the bus ride excursions.

Also, something I wasn't aware of. In Boston, you dock at the Black Falcon pier, which is about a 15-20 minute $15-20 cab ride away from the downtown area. We didn't realize this and wanted to tour the city on foot a couple hours before our excursion, which we had to meet at the pier for. Well, once we were told how much and how long it would take to get there and get back, we felt we couldn't get into the city with enough time to look around. So, when you're planning your Boston tours on your own, plan for enough time to get there and back to the pier.

Hope you have a great time!! My computer was slow last night, so I'm now off to do my review.

Rob, funny you say that. We have been talking about some things we'll do different to make it better. Have fun on #5!!

Good advice about stops in Boston. Yes, unfortunately, the Black Falcon pier is a bit of a distance from the "sites" most people want to see in Boston. There are, fortunately, lots of ways to get from the pier into downtown (and some of them less expensive than a cab), but there's just no getting around the fact that it takes time to get to and from downtown from the ship, so people should definitely plan for this.

I also had one quick question, Cleo: can you tell us who the Cruise Director is currently (or any of the CD staff you may remember in particular)? Just curious whether it will be anyone we know from a prior cruise.

We're counting down the days (impatiently, I might add.) :)

CD should be Dan Styne. Our best bud Sam is ACD, she is the greatest. :)

Many thanks. I don't think we've sailed with Dan before, but we LOVE Sam!!!! She's been the ACD on at least 2 of our cruises (and I'm thinking 3.) Cool!

Yes, Dan and Sam. They were so much fun. As far as the other staff, I'm so much better with faces than names, so I don't remember most of the names. But I do know they were all so great. Fun, friendly, eager to please, and at all the events I went to, they were all able to get the crowd going. Sometimes I know that easier said than done.

I feel your impatience. ;) I'm already impatient for our next cruise, whenever that may be. :D
