charging for cupcakes on Oasis?

Recommended Posts

Apparently you are not alone there are other cupcake blogs on the internet.

I'll be tasting one of those cupcakes when I'm aboard the 12-1 sailing. As long as its not more than a few dollars. I like to try most of the things onboard the ship, so reluctantly I usually end up paying the extra fees even though I'm not thrilled with the idea. I do understand where you are going though. I often wonder about this "pay extra" concept. In a few years time more things will come at an extra cost and fewer things will be included in the price.

Hang in there, I don't understand why some people get off on picking on posters with different opinions. :D Just ignore those who are unable to answer the question and move on.

No one is saying you should get free merchandise. Food should be included. Even me the anti extra charge for food person can handle a few pay restaurants like chops and portafinos.

But cupcakes, sea food shacks, $20 buffets, $15 steaks, $4 room service, $5 burgers, this is over the top.

They should come out with a plan where you pay like $500 more and all food is included where you get a different colored room key or something

I am still looking for what the cruise line is charging for that if I don't purchase it will have a negative impact on my overall cruise experience.

Cupcakes and pastries provided for free at the buffet and MDR are good enough for me.So I don't feel the need to buy a gourmet cupcake.

I am not sure where you have come up with the $20 buffets.

I feel confident that the buffet and MDR will offer me plenty of sea food choices. Probably not the same daily variety at the Sea Food Shack but in the MDR I have never had any problem, every evening having shrimp cocktail and escargot as appetizers.

I have to be honest I have never eaten in one of the specialty restaurants. But then I am a meat and potatoes kind of guy. A lot of people love eating in them but I can't bring myself to pay extra for a meal when there is one good enough for me already available for free.

The $4 room service you refer to affects realistically only 1-5% of the people on a cruise ship. IMO the additional charge is there to try and discourage people from requesting that service so late at night and not as a revenue generator.

The JR $5 hamburgers would be a little much. But you pay for the atmosphere. To get the freebie you just need to go someplace else on the ship and build your own.

It is all about choices. Personally I don't want to pay extra for yours. I appreciate the hard work the cruise lines do to try and keep my expenses down. While allowing me to make choices of what I want to spend extra for.

YOU ALL DO NOT GET MY POINT AND THAT IS OKAY

THAT IS WHY THERE IS CHOCLATE AND VANILLA

STOP PUTINIG ME DOWN FOR VOICING MY THOUGHTS

I really don't and yelling will not make your point any more clear.

The cupcakes are a specialty item. Personally, I won't be buying any but it also doesn't ruffle my feathers for them to be there with a price tag.

I don't get upset for them having bottle lemonade for sale in the shops when I can get free from the WJ.

Oasis will have a "Spa" buffet that will have a $ 20.00 charge for dinner. Included in cruise fare for Breakfast & Lunch

And your first statement is 1 trillion percent correct. There IS no cruise line where not purchasing an "extra fee" item will have a negative impact on a vacation. At least for 99.99999999999% of cruise vacationers.

I am happy for you that you can disembark with a $ 0.00 balance sail and sign card, more power to you!:D

Really, it is because of the people who spend little or nothing when on board, that the cruise lines have to supplement income by charging extra for things like cupcakes, how happy does that make you?:D

I forgot about that. What I understand about that made me mentally put it in the category of a Specialty Restaurant and not a buffet of food that I would be interested in. I know there are lots of other people who are probably interested in this menu. It's just not for me.

Thanks for educating me on the rise of the cupcake shop! This was all news to me - they have not made it to Atlanta. I save my calories for "real" food and booze and would never waste calories on a cupcake. It's all I can do to get hungry for the next meal without eating dessert in between - so let them charge whatever they want!

If you've seen pictures of these cupcakes, they are really beautiful. Some are made to look like things like a tea cup, etc. and are beautifully decorated. I'm sure that takes someone quite a bit of time to make just one. They will be doing classes on decorating them too, which again, I'm sure there will be a charge for that too. Whatever, you're on a cruise!

Now I love to bake and would do a class on this. Does anyone know the charge? If your from the Detroit area I make a mean Lumpy Bumpy Cake that is perfect as a cupcake. Maybe if they gave me the ingredients I could make them for free to pass out. OH Yeah, I'm on vacation!!!

I've paid for cupcakes in the past that were very good so in theory I am not offended by paying for them on a ship. I appreciate pretty cupcakes just as long as they taste good and aren't fresh from the freezer.

If they are baked on the ship, then we'll be there daily, if not we'll admire thier beauty and walk away.

BTW - The last time my sister came with us on a cruise the only charge she accrued on her room charge was tips. I was totally amazed that anyone could do that.

You go to Google and type "Gourmet Cupcakes" and it brings back 175,000 responses.

I guess this is why RCL has a GC Shoppe onboard Oasis!

Smart marketing if I do say so.

Of course the "naysayers" here will disagree. I bet the RCL stockholders won't however. And THEY are the only ones along with the PAX that they have to worry about.

And as I stated previously 99.99999999999% of RCL cruisers will not be turned off by this!

still think it is not good to charge for a cupcake

i can go get a cookie or cake for free

why pay for a cupcake

still crazy to pay for all these extras

i will look but wil not pay a high fee for a cupcake

get real people

What part of "it's a choice" do you not understand? If you do not want to pay for it, then don't. The cruise line is giving you a choice. It's that simple. Even a child could or should understand it. Maybe you need to get real.

LOL - I know exactly what you mean. I'm always amazed at people writing about all the different food opportunities on board when the 3 squares and maybe a room service snack is about all I can manage, gotta save room for the Gin and Tonics.

Yes, you can still get cupcakes and cookies elsewhere on the ship for no extra charge. You can also get a steak for no extra charge in the dining room, but you can also get one for $25 in Chops. Same with coffee. You can get all the regular joe you want for no charge and pay as much as you want for a super duper with a swirl.

So, calm down take a bite of the plain jane cupcake from WJ and don't get so worked up over people who do want to spend their hard earned money on fancy sweets. :D

I'm more worked up about having to make a reservation for some of the shows. Now that bugs me, but I'm not carrying on about it.
