Who lives on a RCL ship year round?

My parents have a two bedroom apartment in an independent living facility for around $1,000/mo. I don't think RCI could match that.

I agree. I remember my mother paying $4000 per month for a one bedroom unit and she only got one meal a day. :)

WOW! I had no idea people do this. Does the cruise line offer them special pricing? How can they afford it?

Compare the cruise price (which can be pretty much all-inclusive) to what retirement communities are charging and I'm sure it is quite a bit cheaper! Even if you buy a condo or patio home for cash (after selling your primary home, for example), the monthly maintenance fees can be very steep. Add to that the cost of groceries, transportation, and recreation, etc and I think the cruise is quite economical.

 

Most people, though, would not like the idea of having no other home. They may have family and friends that they would not like to be away from or they just need to have a place to come home to.
