Who lives on a RCL ship year round?

Mrs. Artz resides on the Royal Princess, a ship that has a very varied and exotic yearly schedule of cruises. Last year the Royal did a world cruise. RCI doesn't have a ship that offers a schedule of cruises that comes anywhere close to that variety so I don't see them attracting long term tenants.

I know Princess has Mrs. Artz how about RCL? Certainly cheaper than a nursing home and much more fun....that's our plan.

When we were sailing to Bermuda on Song of America and Nordic Empress (Empress of the Seas) there was a lady (Pat?) who was on her 60th consecutive cruise. A few years later we ran into the cruise directer we knew from then on the Monarch out of Port Everglades and he said she had switched to Princess after her 120th. He knew her as they both had homes/condos in Manhattan. She would get off the ship on Sunday and go home for a change of clothes then back on the ship so she still had her home in Manhattan. I wonder if this could be the same person?

We know someone that cruises with RCCL but will only do 5 B2B's then goes home to do his laundry for 6 days. He is nearing 200 cruises with RCCL, and since his wife passed away......takes an inside cabin, and enjoys the upgrade to something that has a window.

We also know a couple that had completed their 250th cruise on RCCL, and were awarded a plaque for that completion.

We sit here with 71 credits......knowing that so many have so many more cruises.........and knowing that we will never catch up.

Heck forget the schedule, I would love to be the first to just retire and spend all my days at sea. If only we had a ship in Galveston more than a few months a year......... Oh well I wouldn't mind adding the two TA's a year either. :)

Just a guess.....but, I would imagine they are NOT drinkers and don't do excursions!!! Oh, lets not forget the casino and bingo.....lol

Not exactly true for the friend that we know. But then again, with the number of cruises.......he has access to the concierge lounge, and being the top cruiser.....gets the bottle of champagne, and a couple of bottles of wine.

So, he basically does not spend more than the tips to the concierge and has everything that he needs.

No bingo or casino.....just loves to cruise and read, and be with friends.

I think that it's a wonderful way to age gracefully!!

Isn't your DW working on catching up with your friends while you slave away at home? :D

I'd be cool with hanging out on the World if I recall the name correctly....like a condo on the seas with extra time in port, slow sailing and just a nice set of friends aboard with you...

She just got home today!! We don't sail again till the end of November, and then again in January of 2010.

We expect to hit our 100th RCCL cruise in 2012........if I'm still living!!:D:D

Hey Rick, it's Mike

On my Radiance Cruise, The gentlemen you mentioned, can't remember his name but loves his champagne with Marchino cherries in it. He was a pleasure to sail with and on Sept 25th voyage he was at 176, but was doing more. I also met 2 couples, one from So Cal and the other from Florida, both couples were rather young, they had been on the Radiance for 2 months, got off in San Diego for three days, then on to the Brillance for a 14 day cruise thru the Panama Canal over to Florida just to hop on the Freedom for a while. That is a nice life but i have to admit that I love HOME.......either at the beach in Huntington Beach or the Desert ( Palm Springs ), yes we are spoiled but we do go cruising and will be back on the Radiance for an 11 day cruise on December 11th. Then on two more Mariner cruises in early / mid 2010 and then finally on the Oasis for Halloween 2010. Can not Wait! Hope to cruise with everyone next year......It is the LIFE!!!!!:)

Hey Rick, Rancher Dave and Mike!!!!!!

Yes Dave, Bobbie did stay on the Radiance with moi. :) I did a b2b2b and Bobbie and I sent Rick and Dan home while we stayed on the ship. The head waiters and the concierge told us they were watching over us for our husbands.

Rick, as Bobbie probably has told you, we had a lovely time with Claude (177 cruises)???. He lunched with us in Ensenada and we all took the trolly to old town San Diego. Claude is a delightful gentleman.

Mike, Can't wait to see you guys in Vegas on Halloween!!!! :)

Sounds nice, but by the time you require the level of care provided by a nursing home you could not live on a cruise ship. Somehow, I can't see your room steward being willing to come in whenever you push the button (24x7) and assist you with going to the bathroom.

I don't think that "nursing home" is quite the word.....but independent living in a retirement home certainly comes to my mind.

Claude is the gentlemans name, as Nancy pointed out, and will be hitting the 200 cruise mark in the near future........and that is cruises with RCCL, not cruise credits.

And, it's obviously a life that he enjoys, from what he tells me.

My parents have a two bedroom apartment in an independent living facility for around $1,000/mo. I don't think RCI could match that.
