hibiscus27 Posted October 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2009 Hello I'm trying to see if its worth my while to go for the wine package.... On the wine package, do they give you the entire bottle? Or just a glass? If its a bottle, is it ok to share with folks that didn't get the wine package? Is there a limit on the number of bottles/glasses you can order? If I don't go for the wine package, is there a set price per glass of wine? Or is it like any other restaurant where price per glass differs by bottle? Thanks in advance!
murfturf Posted October 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2009 Package is for bottles. 5 bottles on the Platnium is about $125, with gratuities it was $143. You don't have to finish it each night, you can also take it with you to the next bar or your room after dinner. I'm sure it's totally ok to share with others at your table - and you will make great friends ;) Glasses of wine run around $7 and up, bottles I saw were around $36. (But there was a HUGE variety - they have some in the hundreds!) They do vary by the type of wine. If you only want one or two bottles, the package isn't worth it. We did drink our 5 bottles though :) Most nights we took the bottle with us to the Cigar Club or our room after dinner.
ace1zoe2 Posted October 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2009 We purchased the 5 bottle package on our Southern Caribbean cruise this summer. There were 8 of us at our table including my husband, 3 adult children & spouses. Us girls shared a bottle of wine each night at dinner. However, they will re-cork the bottle for you for the following night if you don't finish it at one meal & don't want to take it with you to another club. cb at sea Posted October 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2009 There is no need to share unless YOU want to....wine is waaaay overpriced...everyone knows it, and no one expects you to offer them some of yours (unless they're in your party!). You can share with whomever you like---it's YOUR wine!
hibiscus27 Posted October 22, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted October 22, 2009 murfturf, ace1zoe2, & cb at sea - thanks! you guys answered all of my questions... so essentially if we do go for the wine package, really only one person from our group has to get it...its not something that has to be charged per individual. thanks for helping a newbie out
amybeth4 Posted October 22, 2009 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2009 Yes, if there are two of you, one of you will order the wine package for the set amount of nights (I know there's a 5-nighter and a 7-nighter at the very least...and if you're on a 7-night cruise you can order 5 nights worth of bottles). They don't give a crap who you share the bottles with. I just can't bring myself to doing it. I like Pinot Noir and they don't even have it on the cheapest level of wines, so I'd have to get the next level up, which brings the bottles to an average of like $30/bottle for wine I can get on land for like $8. So I just order by the glass. :(
Judi2112 Posted October 22, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 22, 2009 I've just ordered the platinum package for our Christmas/New Year 12 nighter - 12 bottles. I paid £206.31 - including the 15% gratuity - making it an average of £17.19 per bottle. I thought that was a good deal as we pay £20 + ($32) per bottle for "house wine" in a restaurant in Edinburgh or £6 ($9.60) per glass . If we don't use all our bottles by the second/last night (ie., if we've gone to the specialiaty restaurants and ordered something special off the wine list) we always get the waiter to open them up and share with all the new friends we've made. azdmelani Posted October 22, 2009 #9 Share Posted October 22, 2009 we did the calculations on our cruise 2 weeks ago- the most expensive package ($157 and change for 5 bottles with gratuity) was worth the charge versus the individual bottle prices. Yes, they give your the bottle but you can only request it in the dining room and I believe the Windjammer. Yes you can share it and whatever you can take the open bottle back to your room. I did the wine package on my last cruise and I have pre-ordered it for my next cruise.
WooKeef Posted October 22, 2009 #11 Share Posted October 22, 2009 here are the wine by the glass prices. I am so glad I decided to check out RCI today...I am glad to know they offer these packages. But, does anyone have any ideas of their bottle wine choices? Are there French wines? I am doing my FIRST RCI on Freedom in July and am enjoying learning the differences in RCI compared to Celebrity whom I have cruised on before. Thanks again! robtulipe Posted October 22, 2009 #12 Share Posted October 22, 2009 We did the Gold Wine & Dine on our last four or five RC cruises and for example a bottle of Danzante Italian pinot grinio was $26 (avg. price inc. gratuity) with the W&D Gold pkg, $35 to prebuy as gift and $38 with gratuity to buy separately onboard. So with this wine the Gold W&D offered a price and saving of about 30% below the individual onboard bottle cost. There was a similar savings with the Linderman Semillon/Chardonnay but others wines on the list offered less savings compared to the regular price but all on the Gold Pkg offered some saving. This was not the case if you chose a lower end wine when you had a Platinum or Diamond W&D Pkg as you would be paying more with the package then the individual bottle wine would have cost. amybeth4 Posted October 22, 2009 #20 Share Posted October 22, 2009 You are so funny. I keep laughing every time I read this. Maybe I need another hobby lol. It's all about the word "crap." Crap is a funny word. Recently I called the loyalty coupons "crapfest coupons," and I had at least three comments telling me they were crackin' up.
