My Dh doesnt want to miss anything good in the MDR, so is there anyway to find out whats on the menu for which days? Both Chops and Portofino should have the weekly dining room menu available. Just take a look and pick a day.

cb at sea Posted December 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2009 We were NOT able to get the dining room menu from Chops---they didn't have it....we just picked a night, checked the dining room menu that morning and decided to go to Chops....had there been a "not to miss" item on the MDR menu, we would have changed our reservation...it's not a big deal to do that! kandemom Posted December 22, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted December 22, 2009 Thanks Guys! Ill just plan chops and portofino, and if something looks like its not to be missed in the MDR then well figure it out then. And yes ive heard that the MDR doesnt have too much going on. Maybe I can convince my Dh that another day at a specialty restuarant is the way to go;)
RevSmith Posted December 22, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 22, 2009 This is just me, but I always find that the prime rib offered in the MDR on the first night, the filet on the first formal night and the lobster/shrimp grill on the second formal night are the dishes I like...all other nights is a Chops or Portofino night for me. Sometimes ( and always on the five day cruises, the lobster is offered on the last night at sea...not on the second formal night)
Down South Cruiser Posted December 23, 2009 #7 Share Posted December 23, 2009 I'll give you the menus for a 4 night itinerary on the Majesty. I have also been on the 4 night Navigator & I believe that your menus will be very similar if not exact. I also agree that the best beef dishes are the prime rib & the fillet of beef. Fillet of beef is my favorite, excluding the $14.95 chops selection of course which is divine. I don't think you will see the lobster on the 4-night-er but you could ask the dinning room staff about it when you get on board. Day 1 Starters: Strawberry, Kiwi and Pineapple Medley Smoked Fish Tapenade Vidalia Onion Tart Sopa de Tortilla Hot and Sour Shrimp Soup Chilled Watermelon Gazpacho Spinach Salad Main Courses: Shrimp Ravioli Pan fried Pork Medallions Slow-roasted Prime Rib Grilled Mediterranean Vegetable Quesadilla Aloo Gobi Methi (potato and cauliflower curry) Pan seared Atlantic Salmon Alternative selections: Traditional Caesar Salad Fettucine w/ Marinara Sauce Broiled Fillet of Cod Grilled Chicken Breast Grilled Black Angus Top Sirloin Steak Chops Fillet for $14.95 Desserts: Strawberry Pavlova Chocolate Cherry Cake Savarin Low-fat Blueberry and Peach Cobbler Sugar-free Chocolate Pot de Crème Cheese Tray Various Ice creams and Sherbets Day 2 (Formal) Starters: Orange Carpaccio Shrimp Cocktail Escargots Bourguignonne Lobster Bisque Oxtail Broth Chilled Golden Pear Soup Caesar Salad Main Courses: Truffled Wild Mushroom Linguini Alfredo Golden Sea Bass Roasted Duck Eggplant Mozzarella Tower Fillet of Beef Alternative selections: Traditional Caesar Salad Fettucine w/ Marinara Sauce Broiled Fillet of Norwegian Salmon Grilled Chicken Breast Grilled Black Angus Top Sirloin Steak Chops Fillet for $14.95 Desserts: Grand Marnier Souffle Double Strawberry Cheesecake Cherries Jubilee Low-fat Double Strawberry Cheesecake Sugar-free Coconut Vanilla Layer Cake Cheese Tray Various Ice creams and Sherbets Day 3 Starters: Caprese Salad Antipasti Scallop Risotto Creamy Roasted Garlic Soup Minestrone Chilled Strawberry Bisque Insalata Mista Main Courses: Rigatoni Pasta Garlic Tiger Shrimp Chicken Marsala Vegetarian Chili Lamb Shank w/ Rosemary Alternative selections: Traditional Caesar Salad Fettucine w/ Marinara Sauce Broiled Fillet of Atlantic Cod Grilled Chicken Breast Grilled Black Angus Top Sirloin Steak Chops Fillet for $14.95 Desserts: Warm Chocolate Cake Raspberry Panna Cotta Tiramisu Low-fat Angel Food Cake Sugar-free Chocolate Mint Cake Cheese Tray Various Ice creams and Sherbets Day 4 Starters: Fire Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Shrimp Cocktail Spinach Dip Roasted Pumpkin and Apple Soup Onion Soup Chilled Forest Berries and Buttermilk Soup Caesar Salad Entrees: Grey Goose Vodka and Smoked Salmon Cream Pasta Roasted Turkey Grilled NY Strip steak Indian Vegetable Curry Mahi Mahi Tempura Alternative selections: Traditional Caesar Salad Fettucine w/ Marinara Sauce Broiled Fillet of Norwegian Salmon Grilled Chicken Breast Grilled Black Angus Top Sirloin Steak Chops Fillet for $14.95 Desserts: Brownie Madness Key Lime Pie Banana and Crunchy Nut Parfait Low-fat Strawberry Shortcake Sugar-free Key Lime Pie Cheese Tray Various Ice creams and Sherbets

negc Posted January 11, 2010 #17 Share Posted January 11, 2010 We were NOT able to get the dining room menu from Chops---they didn't have it....we just picked a night, checked the dining room menu that morning and decided to go to Chops....had there been a "not to miss" item on the MDR menu, we would have changed our reservation...it's not a big deal to do that! When we have sailed, the specialty restaurants, both Chops and Portofino, had main dining room menus for every evening of the cruise and we were able to review them before making our reservations. If that is not the case on your cruise and you are in a suite or are Diamond Plus, the concierge may have copies or can possibly find out the schedule and applicable menus for you. Unless there is one particular dish that you absolutely don't want to miss, I wouldn't be overly concerned and would book the specialty restaurants for the nights that best fit your schedule. I am not sure that the rotation of the menus is followed so strictly that having that sort of information from someone on an earlier cruise will be totally reliable.
