On this date, January 3, 1959, Alaska became a STATE!!!

And I, for one, am so glad it did! I can cruise there feeling comfortable that I know the language, the money, the food, and the transportation system.

Yet, it still seems a little foreign.

Probably used gold dust and nuggets. ;)

 

I know that on my first cruise there, most of us kept talking about such things as clearing Customs, and duty charges vs duty-free, allowances, and such. One woman had to keep reminding us that we were still in the United States. :rolleyes: Didn't feel like it at all.

That was a long time ago, before all the Diamonds International, and the rest of the tourest traps.

Thanks for keeping us "up to date" on where the Fleet is. As I sit in frigid Northern Illinois I think maybe I should be on the Zuiderdam sitting in Half Moon Cay in the Bahamamas.
