Formal Night

Hey Gang!

My Hosses and I are wondering how strict the dress code is for formal night and also wondering how strict the dining room etiquette is. Just want to make sure if I should monitor our drink intake before going in the dining room.

Thanks, Gang!

They are asleep.

The dining room dress code is super lax. DH will wear a dress shirt and tie on 7 day cruises, and just a nice Hawaiian shirt for the 3/4 dayers. He wears Dockers all nights.

Gals can wear anything from sundresses, black slacks and sparkly tops are perfectly acceptable.

Be a happy drunk in the MDR.

Ok, I am awake now.;)

Good morning Mr. Y

Yes, the Elegant night is more relaxed than Formal night, however they still prefer that you and your hosses dress somewhat nice.

Jackets and ties are not required, but you would be fine in something like dockers and a button up shirt.

Reports have it that some people actually wear shorts:eek:..I wouldn't.... at least not on Elegant night.

As far as the drinking...don't let your hosses go hammered, trashed, sh** faced..what ever you call it.

A little buzz wouldn't be bad, it might help to better prepare you and them for the singing waiters.:)

Don't worry about dining room etiquette. It's "anything goes". Will you and your hosses be wearing your life jackets in the MDR?

OK, where is Conchead and Nunu? I bet they can help you out.:D

There was a report, I don't know if it was true about a man wearing

his life jacket the whole cruise:rolleyes:...not necessary at all.

Please, don't wear your robe either. The MDR is not the place for that.

The Lido buffet..well, that is a questionable..right ChrissyBTX?;)

I've got to disagree with you about dining room etiquette. I've seen a number of passengers escorted out of the main dining room for inappropriate conduct. Just because these are the Fun Ships doesn't mean that 'anything goes' in the dining rooms in particular.

People... families... are enjoying meals and the staff won't allow improper behavior.

Very nice, now when I die I have someone to carry on the cause,I knew it was not all in vein.

PS. OP Shorts are not allowed every evening except Elegant night.

Dress runs the gamut, haven't seen anyone turned away the last couple of years. As far as booze, depends on what type of drunk you are talking about. A silly, polite & goofy drunk is probably ok. A loud, rude, inappropriate & vulgar drunk might get tossed.

Okay, i am in no way condoning this, but on our first cruise (a 5day ont he Ecstasy) My husband and i were headed to formal night and when we got to the Elevator, there was a family of about 10 people and all of them from Granny down to little Jim Bob in the Stroller were all wearing plaid flannel shirts under the Brand new, nicely starched Dickies Denim overalls. I must say it was quite a sight to behold as none of them were very small. It was one of those moments i will never forget.

so, wear whatever you want to, but just know there is a chance you will not get to eat in the MDR that night.

As far as etiquette goes, I have seen some very uncooth folks as well. Like the very elegantly dressed woman sitting on the stairs waiting for the door to open with her legs all spread out so you could see everything and to top it off, she was picking her nose and flicking boogers. One actually hit one of the ladies I was with. there was also one time where one of the ladies in our group would literally eat her prime rib with her fingers tearing it apart and then licking her fingers after each bite. Needles to say, she didn't get invited back. So jusst don't do anything you think would embarass your loved ones at home and you'll be okay. Save the major drinking for after dinner in one of the bars or discos. Drunks are also fun to watch at Karaoke.

My DH has always wore nice jeans and a dressy shirt on formal night and elgant nights. Do remember that on these nights its the suggested attire not mandortary. The only people I have seen ask to leave are in swimming attire. I think its your cruise dress the way you feel confortable if people dont like it dont look!

Never seen a person turned away in our travels. While on the Miracle in 2009 a man at our table wore a black sequin open fish net muscle shirt with dress slacks, plenty of bling (Mr T starter set) and sandals. We were semi formal and had a great time. I predict Elegant Night will be a thing of the past in a couple of years on Carnival with the advent of Any Time Dinning. Elegant dress may survive at the specialty resturant and cocktail party. Not really sad but a sign of the times.

A life jacket the whole cruise? How funny! And how uncomfortable!

No, please no life jackets or robes in the MDR or Lido. And, regarding robes at the Lido, you know how I feel about that!:) I caused quite a "stir" on the "robe thread" the past couple days. Had to get away. But, hey, I wasn't the only one.:D

Mach, you don't know me. I was being totally facetious when I said that. I'm one of the folks on CC that goes around preaching to everybody to follow the dress code, obey the rules, etc. I get yelled at all the time. I definitely agree with you about the dress code in the MDR. It should be formal or cocktail attire. I know so many people disagree on this. I really think they should break up the dining rooms on formal night. Let all the nicely dressed people dine in one room and the casual folks in another. Formal/elegant night just doesn't have the right atmosphere when the sloppy people start walking in.

And the reason I was being facetious......(hope I don't get in trouble for saying this). I think Mr. Y is a prankster. Read the threads he starts. They are so hilarious. (wearing your life jacket in the pools, going to dinner drunk, getting arrested in Cozumel). I've lived in TX a long time and I've never heard of the word "hoss". Am I the only one that thinks this? I think some of you are just "playing along". :)
