Carnival Smoking Policy - Legend

I want to thank everyone for their input regarding Carnival's unfortunate policy of allowing cigarette smoking in staterooms and many other areas of the ship.

As one respondent suggested, I should have done my homework before booking the cruise. I just didn't think of it because smoking was not permitted in cabins and most areas on our previous cruises aboard RCL, Azamara and Holland America.

With the known health risks associated with second hand smoke, I'm surprised Carnival's Lawyers and risk management folks haven't put an end to smoking anywhere aboard ship except for a few restricted areas.

Really just go book on a cruise line that is more prohibitive. You will be happier. Carnival allows smoking and thank god they do because a lot are a lot more restrictive. I don't cruise on them so please maybe carnival isn't for you.

"Should" is a silly word in this scenario. It is their cruise line - they SHOULD do whatever the heck they decide. In the same way that other cruise lines with more stringent policies SHOULD do what they like... As a consumer, it is up to you to decide which line gets your business.

On the other hand, passengers SHOULD respect the rules and refrain from smoking in areas where it is not permitted...

As well as nonsmokers SHOULD respect those smoking in smoking areas.

My mother is a smoker and she never smoked in the cabin on the Legend, only on the balcony and up by the adult pool. I thought there was a rule about smoking in the cabin. Maybe she smoked outside only because she knows I do not like smoke. I quit 13 years ago.

A lot of smokers have commented that they don't smoke in the cabin....because not even smokers want to sit in a haze and the cabins are small.

My sister has a home that she lives in alone and she doesn't smoke inside....in her own house....all by herself....

I am a chain smoker so naturally smoking doesn't bother me a bit. However, I don't drink, and I detest being around drunks and having drinks spilled on me. In addition, 800 people died in smoking related house fires in 2009 while 28,000 people died in drunk driving related accidents. I think drinking should be banned from ALL places where smoking is not allowed. Tit for a Tat! :D:D:D

I was on the spirit last year and I didn't notice any smoke other than in the casino ( that was AWFUL) I had to literally plug my nose hold my breath and run through there to get to to pharaohs- and on occasion up on the deck by the pool some one would light up I would just switch chairs and move where I couldn't smell the smoke.. once or twice I could smell some one smoking on their balcony if I was on my balcony but I would just go inside to get away from it an more then likely they would be gone and I could return to my balcony again.. some times it takes a bit of "musical chairs" so to speak to get away from it but it's always do able!

I'm sailing the legend in November and hope I have as good of luck this time too! I much like you didn't even consider the thought of smoking and different policies that different lines might offer I just assumed most of the world knows second hand smoke is bad fro your health and most hotels and all airlines and here in Washington public smoking isn't allowed at all even i n casinos so I guess I just didn't think ahead either. however if I have as good of luck this time I will continue to stay with carnival. I had a BLAST last time :D

you will definitely need to stay away from the casino though and probably the cigar bar area if they have one on the legend

another thought might be to take a small desk top air purifier I use one to sleep with at night- I'm not sure if carnival allows but might be worth checking into

LOL, me too. The funny thing is 20 years ago this wouldn't even be a subject of conversation. Nor would the drinking be , because 20 or 30 years ago, people used cruises to get from one place to another, we werent worried about being so "correct" and over all we were a kinder sort of people. I understand that people do have allergies, and I do respect that. I do not even like to be in a room that can't open a window or door to get the smoke out, and I chain smoke too. That is my addiction. Sorry, it's still legal. I think we worry more about the small stuff these days, than the big stuff if you know what I mean, and I will never be politically correct....you can't be politically correct and be biblically correct.

That said, enjoy the Legend, it's a great ship!

I agree with you. If someone tells you that they are allergic to cig smoke, then they are F.O.S. Cig smoke is not an allergen, its an irritant, therefore it makes it impossible to have an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions kill people, irritants just irritate people.

To all those that are so "sensitive" to cig smoke, you go outside everyday and have to breathe in all the emissions from car exhaust and factories blowing smoke in the air, but yet, one whiff of cig smoke is going to give you bronchitis or send you into an asthma attack......I call BS. It might make your eyes itch and water, could even cause you to cough a little bit, but it will not kill you, and its NOT going to give you cancer unless you are exposed to it for a long time, I mean years.

Just stay away from the smoking areas! If catching a whiff of smoke is going to get to you that bad, then by all means, choose another line that doesn’t allow smoking.

Smoking is a legal activity for an adult to enjoy. As long as it stays that way, I don’t see Carnival banning smoking from their ships.

Off my high horse now :D
