GEM - few questions

I've been using the search feature and i'm not finding the information.

- When is the muster drill ?

- When do we get access to our cabin ?

- Do we bring our own luggage to the cabin ?

- What do we do when we first embark if we don't have access to cabin right away ?

As the date of our trip gets closer, the more questions I have, I like to be prepared.

Thanks;)

The muster drill is usually about 30 miutes prior to departure. They will tell you both in the Freestyle Daily and by announcement.

Cabins are usually ready at about 2pm, plus or minus a few minutes.

Your large pieces of luggage will be taken by porters at the pier and delivered to your room. You can take your carryon bags on board yourself.

Most passengers have lunch in the dining room or buffet after boarding.

Actually, you do not need the search, but if just scan the postings from the past few days, these any many other topics come up often.

Along with having lunch, some then tour the ship, have a drink, stand outside and just observe all the goings-on, etc.

The muster drill is about 30 minutes prior to sail away.

They announce that you can go to your cabin around 2:00 pm.

You drop off your large luggage with porters at the terminal when you arrive there and they will be delivered to your cabin some time in the afternoon (hopefully before dinner).

Carry-on luggage is brought aboard by yourselves. They usually offer a space in one of the lunges to drop off your carry-ons while you explore the ship before the cabins are opened.

You can go get some food or check out the ship's open areas to pass the time before heading to your cabin.

Others have addressed your questions, but I'm going to chime in to add some additional information...

- When is the muster drill ? In my experience, the muster drill is always held before sail-away, generally in the 3-3:30pm timeframe. The exact time will be in the Freestyle Daily and will be announced multiple times.

- When do we get access to our cabin ? Depends on how quickly the crew can "turn the ship around" from the previous cruise. Generally, no later than 2-2:30pm...they will make an announcement.

- Do we bring our own luggage to the cabin ? Only what you choose to carry on board with you. Everything you hand to the porter will be delivered to your cabin.

- What do we do when we first embark if we don't have access to cabin right away ? Lunch :: Both the Buffet and one of the Main Dining Rooms will be open for lunch. Many other things on the ship will not yet be open (Casino, Stores, Photo Gallery) so you will find that a lot of people just seem to "hang out" in the buffet while they wait for the rooms to be ready.

I think that they do this because the buffet usually has lots of windows to look out of, and food to nibble on...so you will see many many many people just taking up seats...this leads to overcrowding in the buffet which is something that is complained about on these boards often. Do everyone a favor...if you are not actually eating, try not to "hang out" in the buffet.

Touring the ship to get your bearings is also a good idea. You can also check out the various restaurant menus so you can see where you'd like to have dinner the first night. Also...if the spa is a big draw for you, the spa pass that is available on the first day is a good bargain.
