kakalina Posted January 27, 2010 #351 Share Posted January 27, 2010 Can I hear you thinking? ;) Perhaps that would be HAL's response. More likely, they would stop pre-need requests for the deep-cleaning. It could only be requested after boarding. And if there were too many requests where there did not appear to be a need, they could require an inspection by someone assigned that duty before the on-board request was granted. I agree. Once they learned it came from CC perhaps they wouldn't be so nice about meet and greets and such.
sail7seas Posted January 27, 2010 #352 Share Posted January 27, 2010 Let's give them a little credit,,,,,,,,,,, please. Why would they scour a room and deep clean and spend man hours and products if the cabin is just fine. I am sure Chief Housekeeper, Hotel Manager or whoever they assign the task can determine which cabins need special attention without any of us making unreasonable (or reasonable) requests. They really do know how to run a cruise line. :)
BruceMuzz Posted January 27, 2010 #353 Share Posted January 27, 2010 Most of the Carnival Corp ships have now built or relocated their Casinos to the same deck as the main entrance to the show lounge. This is not a coincidence. Carnival realized that a certain percentage of passengers will always stop for a few minutes in the Casino as they make their way to or from the show. That stop equals more onboard revenue. This development has caused a new category of complaints from non-smokers who object to passing through a frequently smokey casino to go to the show. And I agree with this complaint (If there is no other way to get to the show). What amazes me is the fact that instead of walking through the smokey casino, they almost always have the option of walking along a beautiful outdoor promenade deck, with balmy weather, tropical salty air, a romantic sky, and warm gentle breezes blowing - but they never take that option. But isn't this feature one of the reasons we take cruises???? Inevitably when I meet the complainers to hear their smoking story, I often get the distinct impression that they would prefer to walk through the smoke and complain about it than go outside, avoid the smokers, and enjoy all those promenade features they have paid for, and have been dreaming about for many months before the cruise. m steve Posted January 27, 2010 #355 Share Posted January 27, 2010 They know there are smoke haters out there who want to be vocal at the expense of their regular cruisers. They have made a management decision that they will allow smoking on balconies and those who demand smoke fre enviroments can choose another line and their ships will sail fully booked. And as I have mentioned before HAL is not considering going non smoking, only those who hope they will are posting as if it's a fact. They just want an idea how passengers feel. They recently changed the Ocean Bar to non smoking as a concession but of couse, some people want everything their way.

Oh, and by the way, there aren't "smoke haters" as you put it, we are called nonsmokers. Versus you guys. Why do you get so negative? We don't refer to you as a "kissing an ashtray kind of guy". This from the same guy that somewhere on this thread said it was only HAL that was this vocal on this subject; that Princess was not nearly as vocal against smoking like HAL was. :p:p:p Changes are being made constantly. My bet is with the non-smokers eventually! And breaking us into two categories, non-smokers versus regular cruisers. DutchByAssociation Posted January 27, 2010 #361 Share Posted January 27, 2010 we were not allowed in the cabin for the 4 hours each day that the machine ran. Since they were sea days it was a real nuisance. Just FYI, you could have arranged this at any time where you would have been out of the room for 4 hours... trivia, swimming and then lunch perhaps... pre-dinner drinks, dinner and the evening show... It's not too difficult to figure out a 4 hour block where it wouldn't be a nuisance. :)

On vista class ships the casino is on deck 2 and the promenade is on deck 3. But, you are right, walk along deck 3 and sit in the balcony. They also said, smokers were smoking in non designated areas, and that the crew did nothing about it. (Of course, you do not complain to the crew, but an officer about such things. A crew person has no authority to do anything about this) Anyway, it seems to me this may be a problem on Princess also. I will also think long and hard before I book Princess again. I do believe that Princess and HAL are in the same boat (no pun intended) on this issue. Being very comparable lines with Celebrity, it's just natural that the smokers that used to cruise on Celebrity are migrating over to these two lines. However, I will state that on Princess I, personally, have never had a problem with smokers smoking in non-designated areas. I just want clean, fresh air on my balcony and that's getting harder and harder to come by.
m steve Posted January 27, 2010 #365 Share Posted January 27, 2010 and leave HAL alone. They have a reasonable policy and I don't have ashtray breath because I don't smoke. I just don't like people telling others how to live their lives or demanding the cruise line to change their working policy for their personal prejudices. Not intended. However, no one is telling others how to live their lives. Maybe some of us don't like smoke in our face. Ok, take care.:)

The possibilities are endless ... all I'm saying is that at some point HAL may need to revisit the smoking-in-the-cabin vs. endless requests for deep cleaning issue. Time will tell ... but I would surmise that cost for requested services vs. revenue will come into play.

GeriatricNurse Posted January 27, 2010 #373 Share Posted January 27, 2010 Could someone please start a dress code thread? This smoking one is getting old:p Okay, I'll bite! Firstly, HAL should eliminate formal nights entirely! There are NO formal nights with a progressive cruise line such as Oceania, for example, which also has one of the most restrictive smoking policies in the cruise line industry!:)
