slot machine hogs.....gotta love 'em

I was on the pride last week and for the size if their casino they don't have very many slots. There was one I really wanted to play, "cats", they have two of these but they were damn near impossible to get on so one morning I went down at 8 when they first opened thinking I would finaly get a turn. One had a guy playing and another had a big sippy cup thing on the seat. I figured the person just went to the bathroom so I sat beside it and started playing a different machine. Then a lady got off a machine a little down the way, came over and took a few sips of the drink and went back to the other machine and started playing again. So I reached over and slipped 9 100 dollars bills in, moved the big blue hog barrel she was slurping from started hitting max bet. About 3 spins in I hit for a little over 250 dollars. It's a pretty noisy machine and she noticed pretty damn quick that I was on it. She ran over and started screaming that she was saving that machine. You should have seen the look on her face when she saw I had over $1,100 dollars on it! I looked at her all apologetic and got up, telling her that I didnt know but it sure was lucky as I only started with 20 bucks.

After that she looked totaly miserable every time I saw her for the rest of the cruise. So miserable I ALMOST felt bad for her. :D

Although I have seen people playing two machines at once (I think it is wrong!) in Las Vegas or on a cruise, I have never seen someone do as you described and try to "keep" a machine by leaving their drink on a seat.

Wow, that is pathetic.

Although I am usually nice and try to let stuff go; I must admit I loved how you handled it.:D

...... Come to the Parx casino right outside of philly. You wouldn't believe how completely nasty and ignorant those people can be. Honestly, it's enough to make you hate them.

I would have taken the drink and placed on a chair about 5 machines away.........and when she came back I would have told her......nope you saved that machine over there.....:D

Good for you!

I love it when someone fights back against those inconsiderate cruisers.

Next , work on one of those chair hogs that leave flip/flops/book on the chair at the pool , just in case they may want that seat later in the day.

Yes I know , all the cruiselines say they monitor & remove articles , but seldome do unless "pushed".

I was in the casino one night and this "lady" put $5 in a slot and then proceeded to play the machine next to it. When I approached, she said her husband was using the machine. Well I waited for 30 minutes and approached it again. She told me her husband went back to the room for something. I waited a bit more and went and got a casino host. The host asked the "lady" where her husband was. She said he went to the show!!!! At that point the host told the lady to cash out of the empty machine and she told him no. He pushed the cash out button and told her to leave!!!

Too bad the crew members on the sun deck can't or won't do that. Good for that host!

Years ago when I went to Vegas I had to laugh at what I call the Ladies in Polyester. The ones that will park themselves on one stool but be plugging money into two or three machines at once. To me, that means they could be losing that much more quicker. I just don't see the point (well, maybe they'll trying to get a lot of gambling into a short space of time, but to me, that means they have a gambling addiction).

On our first cruise there was a large family reunion on board. They wore distinctive t-shirts and had private events, but were no problem otherwise.

One morning I was in the casino while my wife shopped and sat down at a machine in a row that was otherwise empty except for one family member at the far end. She came over and informed me that that row was reserved for her family reunion. I said "oh really?" and went back to playing. She started getting shrill and mean until and older family member arrived and castigated her for her actions. She was very apologetic and said the lady who yelled tends to take things too far and that all that was happening was that a group of ladies from the family was meeting in the casino, and there were no saved machines.

For the rest of the cruise the lady who tried to save the machines shot me the laser death look whenever she saw me, the lady who intevened always smiled and waved.

Had to read that post to my DW, who is a confirmed slot player (as in at least 5 countries so far). She laughed as loud as I did and said Great! Serves her right. DW only plays one at a time and hates those who pay multipul unless there are large banks of similar machines.

Why don't the deck crews around the pools and sun decks do the same???

The casinos make money off of the machines that are played. An inactive machine is not making them any money.

A deck chair just sits there.

Now, if they were to "rent" chairs for a specific period of time - hourly rates ? - put a little chime timer on the chair.. bell goes off - you pay again if you want to keep the chair? :p

 OMG!!!!! You do know the cruiselines monitor these boards right??? Don't give them any bright ideas!!!! :D

Now whats really funny, on a cruise ship, in order to gain redemption points, you have to have your S&S card inserted in the machine. If there is no card in the machine, its up for grabs. At land based casinos you can get multiple cards, no such luck on cruises. Way to go!!!:D

Good idea --a rented timer for the deck chairs, yes!!!!

Good for you! I've been in casinos where a person will be playing all of the machines within reach....I guess that's ok if no one else is wanting to play, but to take up as many machines as you can reach isn't right....

i am not shy when it comes to that, if there is a machine i want to play and someone is playing two or more i will walk right up and say i want to play. and if they say something i will instantly flag down either security or a slot attendant ( whomever i see first ) and make a stink. i will give them the chance first to give one machine up and if they dont i go into action. i just dont beat around the bush .

Bravo for the casino host.........I'm seeing this more and more on the ships and like you, I'm not going to put up with that kind of behavior.

I don't in the theater and I don't with chair hogs. In the theater I sit where ever I want. I might tolerate someone saying they are with another couple and only have a few seats saved but definately not 1/2 a row!!!! And as for chair hogs I wait an appropriate amount of time then move their stuff.

If they come back screaming at me, I just ask for security to be summoned as I'm being harassed.

I can't believe the rudeness of some people! Bravo to the OP for handling the situation so well!

I had a funny thing happen on the Crown...I went to the casino to play some quarter slots for a little while. I found an unoccupied machine in a rounder, and sat down to to play it for a bit. This lady on the machine next to me leaned over and said, "I've been playing that machine all night, and I'm still kinda playing it...and besides, it isn't hitting at all." So I just smiled and nodded, and told her I was just going play a few pulls. On the second pull, I hit 1000 quarters...$250!!! Needless to say, that woman was LIVID!! She was griping that it was "her" machine, and that she had put several hundred in it already. I cashed out my ticket, apologized, and bid her good evening. She just frowned at me.

I guess I should be able to go sleep with any woman I've ever dated, married or not.

Knock on any public restroom door I've ever used and tell the person to get up, I've used it before and I'm back.

Be able to reserve any parking spot in the city where I've been before.

That whole mentality reminds me of a dog peeing on a tree and growling whenever another dog walks by.;)

And the chances of her hitting for the 1000quarters are astronomical. She would have had to hit the button at the exact Micro-Second that you hit it.....Its a shame people dont do a little research into slot machines and avoid themselves frowns or bad attitudes....
