Ports of call: grand cayman, cozumel, costa maya, rotan

First time on Solstice and first time visiting rotan.

Looking for shore excursion suggestions or best beaches on these islands. What specialty restaurant is the best on Solstice?

This will probably get moved to the Ports of Call board.

In Grand Cayman, any one of the sting ray packages from Nativeway tours is great. We did the Rays, Reef and Rum Point tour. Rum Point is a great beach.

Cozumel, I recommend Nachi Cocom. Great uncrowded beach with good food and drink.

Costa Maya, I recommend taking the bus from the dock to Majahual. Great beach there and many vendors to sit down at to eat, drink and hang out on the beach on the cheap. You can also take a tour to one of the Mayan ruins. I last did the ruins in '06 so would have to look up the company we used for that if interested. I believe there names were David and Ivan. Great tour.

Roatan I recommend using Victor Bodden Tours to tour the area, then go to the Mayan Princess on West Bay Beach. Excellent beach, great ambiance, food and drink.

Look at Ports of Call Board. We haven't been to the Western Carribbean in a while and right now have only Maya Chan scheduled in Costa Maya. We think that Nachi Cocum is a nice opportunity but I'd rather spend my $$$ for that in the casino at night. It sounds like a nice beach, but without knowing if Carnival is docked the same day with a bunch of crazies looking to bulk up on booze we decline at this time. We are also going in October, and for all this rainy/hurricane season soooo unpredictable for these ports. The only thing up in the air right now is potentially Sante Day Spa in Roatan which for therapies is good rain or shine.:)

For us this is R&R we have been this route several time before and we plan to enjoy the ship at leisure.

Cayman, if this is your first time there, you almost have to do Stingray City. It is a hoot.

What's good about Nachi is they limit the bookings to 100 people. It does not get overrun like other AI's down the beach.

We've done Nativeway on GC twice now. This time we're just going to do a bit of shopping, maybe check out 7 mile beach, then head back to the ship to enjoy it with most pax onshore.

Oz ~ there are lots of great suggestions on the Ports of Call boards and I'd recommend asking on the Roll Call for your cruise and see what others on your sailing are doing.

As for my favorite specialty restuarant on Solstice, I vote for Tuscan Grille. Love the location, the decor and the food and service are terrific. I do like all the other specialty restaurants as well Tuscan is just my personal favorite.

Solstice is my favorite ship. Have a wonderful cruise!

Last time on the Solstice we ate at both the Tuscan Grille and the Asian Restaurant, which I can't remember the name. I will definitely eat at both again. And the Asian Restaurant is definitely not to be missed. It was a wonderful experience, because we had a wonderful waiter that helped us order, and the food was out of this world. Don't miss it. We are looking forward to eating there again.

In Costa Maya there is a great private resort called Maya Palms.

In Cozumel we took a Catamaran (Fury) with two snorkel stops.

Favorite speciality restaurant on Solstice (have 2) Murano and Silk Harvest (went twice). The service and food is exceptional. Worth the surcharge!

Enjoy your cruise.

  • 2 weeks later...

We are going Western in June. So far I have only booked Maya Chan in Costa Maya. Grest reviews everywhere!

Can you tell us more about the Fury in Cozumel? I would like to do at least one good Catamaran/Snorkel trip during the cruise, but it needs to be somewhere its ok to bring a non-snorkeller along for the ride.

We did the Fury and it was a great time, I think you could bring a non- snorkeler and they would still be able to enjoy the cat and the sun. Not everyone stays in the water long or goes into the water and is comfortable in the water so they come out quickly. ;)
