Name That Ship

Recommended Posts

Could it be the Song of America? Way back when you could visit ships in port, we were leaving on the Nordic Prince, and the Song of America was next to us. It was very modern and sleek compared to the Nordic Prince, but we never sailed her. Strictly a guess!!

Anyone want to take a guess as to which ship this is? :)

I do know which ship it is... I'm just curious as to if anyone can name it.

Looks like a Sovereign class ship, they were built at Chanters de L'Atlantique, do you have a date the photo was taken?

April 1987, but that really gives away the identity! :D

Sovereign did have a couple differences from her sisters that can be spotted in that photo. Anyone else know what they are, or am I the only dork?

Having never sailed on Sovereign (I'm a relative cruise newbie :o) I can't speak to any differences. But I'd love it if you'd point them out! :)

No balconies for one and open seating at the front of the windjammer, didn't think of those when I first looked at the picture, both of which were changed in her major refit

That is exactly right! :)

Monarch and Majesty have an upstairs, indoor seating area in the Windjammer that is just above the bridge. Sovereign did not have that when constructed, nor did she have balconies.

I'm sure everyone knows this but me . . . what happens to these older ships once the cruise line retires them?

This ship was transferred to RCCL's Spanish line, Pullmantur Cruises. She is now named MS Sovereign.

My first RCI cruise was on the Empress of the Seas.

My second RCI cruise was on the Sovereign of the Seas.

I hope I won't be the "kiss of death" for the Serenade
