endeavor3 Posted March 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We are on the Valor on 5/16/10 departing Miami. Our first port is Grand Cayman. This stop is EXTREMELY important to us as we are getting married there. I was just wondering what the other "board members" experiences have been. I can tell you from both of our cruises on the Valor..both in May..we have never missed Grand Cayman....with that being said..I am sure it has happened. have fun on your trip...I get on the week after
KenMo Posted March 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 11, 2010 I've never missed GC. But it's kinda risky planning on getting married there. I hope you make it!
Frick_&_Frack Posted March 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2010 On the cruises in May I've done (always slightly earlier) - with stops at Grand Cayman - I'm probably around 50/50 for making the stop there. Sorry my news isn't better on that. Best of Luck and Congrats!!
golfadj Posted March 11, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2010 We have been to GC three times and no problem. However due to weather conditions sometimes the ship will skip it so it is risky to plan a wedding there. Suggest you have a backup plan just in case. Chris64 Posted March 11, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2010 I'll be on the same cruise as you, but allow me to say congrats early. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and your wedding will go off without a hitch. Either way we'll hook up and I'll buy y'all a drink!

islandwannabee Posted March 11, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Missed it 2 weeks ago on the Glory and in May/08 on the legend.
Hurry&Wait Posted March 11, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Erin, We got married in GC in June of 2009. According to the ship's staff, GC had not been missed in months and our cruise was no exception. Prior to our departure, I had read all of the horror stories about missing the GC port here on CC. Glad I ignored it and just booked the date:D Funny thing, if we had decided to get married in Cozumel (our next stop) we would have been out of luck because of the swine flu scare. You will be fine;) Kenny

aqusis Posted March 12, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 12, 2010 We've missed it a total of 4 times. Once in April, Once in May and twice in September. We'll try one more time this August!

cb at sea Posted March 12, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 12, 2010 This is a good reason NOT to book an important event in a port....you just can never tell what the weather will throw at you! I hope you have a "back-up" plan, just in case!
salty dingo Posted March 12, 2010 #15 Share Posted March 12, 2010 We are on the Valor on 5/16/10 departing Miami. Our first port is Grand Cayman. This stop is EXTREMELY important to us as we are getting married there. I was just wondering what the other "board members" experiences have been. It does happen... but if you have planned to get married onshore you need to be prepared for the possibility the ship will not be able to go there. bermudagal56 Posted March 12, 2010 #18 Share Posted March 12, 2010 why is that port skipped so much? i think i read where glory skipped it today.
InitialD Posted March 12, 2010 #19 Share Posted March 12, 2010 why is that port skipped so much? i think i read where glory skipped it today. Wind and waves make it too difficult to board the tenders. There's nothing protecting ships from waves/wind coming all the way across the Caribbean. MCC retired Posted March 12, 2010 #20 Share Posted March 12, 2010 OP , you should have a "Plan B" for that GC wedding , just in case . Being anchored offshore and not inside any type of harbor or bay , make the ability to tender at GC is a legit concern any time of the year . golfadj Posted March 13, 2010 #21 Share Posted March 13, 2010 One would think that with all the ships going there they would build a bunch of piers and stop this nonsense with tendering. Surprised the cruise lines do not pressure GC to do this by threatening to go elsewhere.
