We are considering the Singapore to Hong Kong itinerary in Jan. 2011. For those who have taken this trip, can you tell me approximately how much you spent on shore excursions - either through the ship or privately? It's our first time in southeast Asia and want to see as much as we can. We also want to start budgeting. :-) Ports are: Ko Samui, Bangkok, Sihanoukville, Saigon, Da Nang, Hanoi and Canton. Thanks.

Hi.......we are four to six people who are taking the same tour...Oceania? Jan 15, 2011? if so let's compare notes about these shore trips - on a previous Oceania cruise we found it much nicer and cheaper to do our own thing vs taking the ship tour....i am investigating going to Angkor Wat from the stop in Cambodia...it may be too far to do in a day but i will let you know. We need to start a thread on Oceania Roll Call for this trip.....

Regards,

Lisa

We did Angkor Wat after a cruise that disembarked in Bangkok. Friends have also gone from a cruise that disembarked in Singapore. It was extraordinary, but you do not want to go there for one day. Instead, you should do it as a pre-cruise from Singapore. We flew Bangkok Airways from Bangkok or Siem Reap. (I just glanced at flights from Singapore and didn't see anything reasonable on the usual search engines such as Kayak until I went to Silk Air's site, which had several daily nonstops on A320s at good prices.) We booked a package (with private guide, some meals, etc.) that I had seen in the NYT and stayed at the Hotel de la Paix. (We liked it so much that instead of going back to Bangkok and staying there, we extended our stay in Siem Reap before heading back to the States.) We went in late October and it was extremely hot and humid, but well worth seeing. If you have any questions, drop me a line dreps@comcast.net.

Greetings, we did your same itinerary in reverse this January on Azamara. We did mostly private tours for two but did one ship excursion in Da nang (to Hoi An) for a nominal $39 person. This was well worth it as it included a tour. Hoi An is the place to spend your money. Beautiful laquere bowls for the cost of sales tax. Nice clothes too.

We were on our own in both Singapore and Hong Kong. Its a no brainer taking their public transportation. Really felt in touch this way.

We did a private tour in Saigon which cost about $100. It was bad. They didnt show up on time, etc. Use Ann tours which people are giving good reviews to. Bangkok, we used private tours which were great. About the same price (you get a driver and a guide!). Do go out of town. We went to the Elephant preserve and road elephants including a bit of time in the famous river kwai. They even took us to the bride although this was not on the itinerary. Then we went to the tiger temple and got literal hands on time with them. Quite an experience! By all means do this!

You cannott do Angkor Wat from your one stop in Cambodia, Sihanoukville. But if Oceania offers a pre or post TAKE IT.We did it a few years ago with Holland America on a simliar cruise on the Prinsendam.THey used 2 tour guides from Shore X. We where only 1 of 2 couples on the pre cruise tour.We stayed at the Hotel De Angkor for 3 days one of the best pre crusie tours we have ever taken.DO NOT MISS IT.

We just booked the Beijing to Hong Kong cruise March 11 2011

I plan to take the land excursion 4 day trip offered by Oceania on the Ancient Jewels Cruise (Hong Kong to Bangkok, Jan. 30-2011-February 1, 2011) on Nautica, which appears to leave from Saigon catch up with the ship, and end, in Bangkok, missing the second day in Saigon, one cruise day, and the day in Sihanoukville. I am interested in any others who would be interested in sharing private shore excursions on this cruise.

I am also going to be on Nautica for Enchanted Africa (November 11-Dec. 11, 2010); Safaris, Sands and Splendors (Dec. 11, 2010-January 15, 2011); and Exquisite Empires (February 15-March 11, 2011), if anyone is interested in sharing private shore excursions. I am planning to take Oceania;s overland Royal Mandalay Experience from Rangoon on the Safaris cruise, and am planning my own safari out of Walvis Bay in Namibia. My email address is: cjak9088@yahoo.com.

Shepsm001: what is the name of the guide/company you used in Bangkok?

We are booked on the Singapore to Hong Kong Nautica trip in January 2011. I am working on booking a flight that gets to Singapore on January 13. It does not look like the Angkor Wat trip is possible unless Oceania does a shore trip before, after, or as part of the cruise. We plan to do our own thing in Da Nang because my husband was stationed there during the Viet Nam war and I don't think anyone else wants to see the places he remembers most. Since we are only in Da Nang one day, I guess we don't see Hoi Ann.

Does anyone else want to work out an Angkor Wat trip in conjunction with this cruise? Other than two trips on the Delta Queen on the Mississippi, this is pretty much my first cruise.

We are on your cruise with friends. There is a roll call for this cruise. That would be the best place to find others to join you.

We were on an AZ cruise in Vietnam last January and used Ann's Tours for private tours in Ho Chi Minh City, DaNang (Hoi An) and Hanoi. We were most pleased. Highly recommend.
