Caribbean Princess Cruise Director

Just off CB. Out of 8 cruises, saw less of the cruise director on this cruise than any other cruise. Probably the oldest cruise director that I have experienced but couldn't tell you his age. If I was guessing, I would say in his 40's.

Funny, I was recently on the CB and couldn't even tell you if the CD was onboard! Nothing against him but we're not into the shows and were just too busy having our own fun to even give him a second thought until now. :D

When Tim Donnavan was a CD on CB you'd noticed him even if you were not onto the show.. He was hillarious. :D

That's when we started notiing CD's.

Once you've experienced a great CD you will know. For the longest time I felt the same way - CD... big deal - didn't add any value to my experience. That was until I met Sammi Baker. Those who know her know what I mean.

Also, IME = In My Experience (FYI)

My husband and I are just off the Caribbean Princess (Mar 21-28) and I'm in the process of writing my full review. A big part of the review is about the cruise staff, including the CD Neil Roberts (I'd put him at 50+), and how we felt that all of the entertainment on the ship was somewhat lacking and that we can only attribute it to the lack of personality in the cruise staff. With the exception of the Asst. CD (can't remember her name), who was pretty funny, the rest of the staff we encountered simply didn't seem to be able to engage an audience. Many of the events that are usually quite festive and fun (Love & Marriage, Bingo, Karaoke, various "gameshows", trivia, etc.) were so boring that many people got up and left! In fact, we left karaoke after about 15 minutes because not one person showed up to sing. On other ships, karaoke is hilarious and is usually packed. Like West Coast mentioned, once you've had a really good CD (and staff), you realize how much of a difference it can make in the overall atmosphere of your cruise.

I have to agree with those who didn't care for him. We were on CB last week and found him to be one of the worst CDs we've encountered. His staff, as well, weren't great either.

Fortunately, the rest of the ship's staff is outstanding!

For those interested in "seeing" Neil Roberts.....click on the link below.

I've not personally cruised with him but will give him a fair shake when on board in a couple of months.

Dan Styne was the previous CD I've met on (2) previous occasions. He left BIG shoes to fill. I think his assistant CD was Sam (short for Samantha) and she was equally fantastic.

Would be interested to know the name of the ACD currently onboard.

And while we're on the subject....here's an Idea....maybe not an original one but an idea none the less......why doesnt Cruise Critic create a section on the web-site where members can update current crew information (captain, CD, Maitre D', etc) so we can eliminate the frequent questions of who's who and who's on what ship when, where, and for how long. Just my two cents....

Happy Sailing All!!!

Dave

Uh-oh! We didn't care for Dan Styne on our last cruise, and the current CD sounds even worse. From previous experience, a dynamic cruise director can make a huge impact on the atmosphere onboard the entire ship. I hope we have someone decent on our upcoming CB cruise in July.

I was on the same sailing. I also thought the entertainment on this sailing was lacking. Perhaps it was the port-intensive itinerary, the advanced age of the average passenger, but there seemed to be a lack of lively entertainment. Even the casino closed down at 1:30 am. If I walked out on the main Lido deck at 2am or 6 am, I felt the TRUE meaning of sailing solo. Still, in all, I enjoyed my vacation. :)

Anyone know who is the Cruise Director on the Caribbean Princess?

Just got an e-mail from Princess a few days ago and the CD is Dan Styne from Sydney,Australia. He was on the CB in October 2009 when I was on the CB as well. I liked him as CD.:)
