cruzisme Posted March 31, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2010 At the Tamarind, is this done each evening or only on special nights?
jtl513 Posted March 31, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2010 I believe if you have 4 or more people you can get it any night, but for 3 or fewer you must go on certain nights only. At least that's the way is was when we had it. :) BUT - on Feb 12th PZetz said There is a minimum of 4 persons required to book the Rijsttafel. There were 3 in our group and we paid the 4 person rate (ie $80 total) in order to experience the dinner. It was well worth it!

Rare TiogaCruiser Posted March 31, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2010 Okay, just got to ask. What is it?
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 31, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2010 Rijsttafel is a Dutch word and stands for 'rice table' - It's usally a sampler of Indonesian foods such as Sate Ayam (sliced chicken on a skewer, served in peanut sauce), Nasi Goreng, different meat samplers/beef sumatra, chicken drumstick, krupuk (shrimp crackers) - on land in Indonesian restaurants, it is erved with other small dishes -like fried green beansDH loves the Sambal sauce!! It't very HOT!! It is a set menu.

jtl513 Posted March 31, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2010 Okay, just got to ask. What is it? Here is how it is done on the Eurodam: CLICK HERE and open the pdf to see the Tamarind Rijsttafel menu. You get everything on the menu. In some places you get many small side plates, similar to Chinese dim sum, but in the Tamarind you get one very large plate (see pic) with the rice in the center. The waitresses come by in a parade, each one giving a serving of each dish. The menu is left on the table the entire time so that you can refer to it if you forget what you're eating! Just one thing was very spicy, and the rest ranged from bland to medium spicy. When we were on the Eurodam you either had to have a minimum of 4 people, or you had to go on a "group" night. Then one half of the restaurant is order-from-menu and the other half is Rijsttafel, so everyone at your table has to have it.
aliaschief Posted March 31, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2010 It is a delicous and very memorable meal. Yes, they need at least four people to serve but you don't have to be seated together. They just need at least four people signed up to offer this exquisite meal and service.
