Sunnydale Posted April 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2010 We know about the train from Katakolon to Olympia, also the limited timetable. Does anybody know the cost of a taxi from the dock into Olympia? Thnakyou
CintiPam Posted April 13, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2010 The Katakolon taxi cabal charges 40 Euros per hour. It is a 30 minute drive. Of course, you will need to have them wait to take you back to Katakolon, so at least about 120 Euros for the visit. You also can rent a car for about 45 Euros right across from the dock and easily drive there yourself. Free parking right by the museum and site. Onessa Posted April 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2010 If your visist is "off season" you may be able to negotiate a better rate for a taxi - we were there in November and paid 70E for three of us round trip. We were the only ship in port and there were a lot of taxis looking for a fare - other times of the year the supply/demand ratio is the otherway around and at those times 120E would be minimum. The taxi should be able to hold at least 4 pax, some of them more -- if there are only two of you, touch base at your roll call with fellow pax and see if anyone wants to share the cost. The driver explained that if he didn't have a fare, his wife would expect him to be home, picking olives :D

law@115 Posted November 7, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 7, 2013 We used taxikatakolon.gr for a group of 4 and were very pleased. Takis even took us to a locals only restaurant at our request for a very good lunch. DW loved the rabbit dish. He gave us a book with maps and photos to guide us through the ruins. For a first visit we really liked the service. Back to the ship with time to spare for a little browsing of the tourist shops in the village. We'll be four too and I'm debating whether to take the bus or rent a car, maybe a taxi might work too. Thanks
Holly2 Posted November 8, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 8, 2013 Previous poster may be referring to Katakolon taxi tours. Andrew also had the guide to the ruins, even bought our tickets for us. Had a great day. Went to a family run winery, through villages and had interesting commentary.

And how close can one get to the entrance to Olympia, my mom will be with us and am hoping we could drive up to drop her off, even if we have to park further away. Thanks:)
Aussie Gal Posted November 24, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) We also used Katakolon Taxis and I worked with George who was very prompt with emails even when we had to postpone the first of our two visits to Katakolon due to the weather being too windy. On our return visit we had a wonderful day. We visited Olympia and then went to a lovely boutique winery. We also visited George's home before going into Pirgos to buy some amazing baklava. We were then taken to a lovely restaurant overlooking the water before George drove us onto the sand where we could take some amazing photos of our ship. It was a beautiful sunny day and it was a great way to farewell Greece. We paid 180 Euros for the four of us and we were gone from 9am until 3.30pm.
