Cymro1953 Posted April 23, 2010 #27 Share Posted April 23, 2010 hope your weather improves we are booked on for 25th may 2wks booked cabin 7097 have a quick look without putting yourself out and tell me i have done the right thing or will i have to change cabins or indeed ships. again have a great time Hi Hoopy, the cabin looks OK at least you are not under the Medusa Lounge where they'll do all the game shows. The ship should be fine. I know she's old, but at least she was built as a proper cruise ship and not a rebuild from a ferry or built on a container ship hull like some of the others. Rare Jim The Scot Posted April 23, 2010 #29 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Hi Hoopy,They mean "New to Thomson". She was actually built in 1986. think most of the refurb i Oct will be to tart her up to look like the other Thomson's ships. Change deck and lounge names etc. As she is the takeover was so quick they have had to keep all the names of decks etc. the same as Costa for time being. Berwyn Efty Berwyn Dream is sold as Spacious. Stylish. Modern. Meet the newest member of the Thomson fleet... Thomson Dream. It's our biggest and most luxurious ship yet. It goes without saying that it comes with the Thomson stamp of quality - food that scores top marks, service that really goes that extra mile and entertainment that ranges from Broadway-style shows to late-night discos. But it's got a few surprises in store, too. Take the cabins for example. They've got interior-designed good looks. Think neutral colours accented by bold feature walls, pale wood furniture and the kind of trimmings you'd expect from a top-drawer hotel - safes, hairdryers and minibars. It's a similar story in the shared spaces, where pale colours and modern accessories set a contemporary scene. Plus all that extra space means there's plenty of choice. There are large bars made for mingling and cosy corners ready for a night cap. As for nice-to-have extras, expect adults-only areas where peace and quiet reigns, and a sun terrace with a swimming pool and a retractable roof. A stay on Thomson Dream is the elegant way to sail. Dining - waiter service Orion Restaurant: Offering breakfast, lunch and six-course dinners, this stylish eatery has an open-seating policy so you can dine where and when you like. The Grill: A posh take on surf'n'turf is the house speciality at The Grill, where steaks, seafood and fresh fish are cooked to order. A cover charge applies and onboard reservations are required. Gala night: The weekly Captain's Cocktail Party and Gala Dinner is an event worth dressing up for. Dining - flexible options Andromeda Restaurant: Help yourself buffets are served round the clock in this 24-hour dining room. Plus there are themed nights twice a week. Sirens Restaurant: A smaller alternative to the main dining room, this cosy restaurant offers an international and British buffet that's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Terrace Grill: Lunchtime BBQs, pizzas and salads served in the sunshine. Entertainment Atlante Theatre: West End-style musicals and comedy from UK guest acts are staged in this two-storey show lounge. Medusa Lounge: Live bands, game shows and spotlight cabaret take to the floor here. Argo Lounge: Live classical music sets a relaxing scene in this laid-back venue. Casino: Roulette, blackjack and slot machines are just a taste of what's in store in the casino. Ladonte Disco: This venue us home to karaoke, cabaret and, of course, the dance floor. Bars and lounges Medusa Bar: This window-lined bar is the best spot for watching the world go by. Delo Bar: Drinks are served shaken and stirred in the ship's classy cocktail bar. Ocean Bar: Set in the centre of the ship, this is the ideal place to meet your friends for pre-dinner tipples. Lido Bars: For al fresco drinks, head to one of these poolside bars. Other activities Beauty Salon: Treat yourself to a new hairstyle, a revitalising facial or a muscle-melting massage. Nereidi Fitness Centre: A well-equipped gym complete with free weights, state-of-the-art machines and space for aerobics. Sports Deck: Courts kitted out for basketball, tennis, volleyball, and 5-a-side football. Other: Onboard extras come in the shape of a Kidzone, library, internet lounge, card room and shops. perthorchids comment off "The ship needs a makeover and the bathrooms a bit tired" does not tie in with the above and would be concerning
Cymro1953 Posted April 23, 2010 #30 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Hi Jim, I bet the bathrooms look like the ones on the Escape and the Celebration. The RCI ship we were on built in 1997 had nearly identical bathrooms to them. I suppose we all have different expectations depending on what you've cruised on before. We'll see next week. Only cruised on OV2 Berwyn but reading Thomsons description of the Dream, what they are selling it on and the cost I am looking for much better. If the toilets look tired and cabins are in need of a refub thats the minimal amount of work that should have been carried out before its first sailing under Thomson Reading reports/reviews it appears all Thomsons ships require a refub Rant over
Huddersfieldtourist Posted April 23, 2010 #32 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Berwyn the forecast for today is poor all the way to Livorno and even in Livorno tomorrow I would say it is fair at best based on present satellite imagery.More cloudy than rainy it would appear. As for the ship - I hope the reports come back more favourably than they seem to have started ! Gareth

As long as beds comfortable, the A.I. is flowing and we get the Thomson standard of service and entertainment we should be OK. Berwyn
CRUISIN LINDA Posted April 23, 2010 Author #34 Share Posted April 23, 2010 NO Linda, warships is fine, HMS Albion, carries tanks and chinook hekicopters. It says amphibious assault vessel. Sounds like warship to me :D Berwyn Hi Berwyn, thanks for backing me up :D I think we all know that Thomson ships are not the newest or swishest, but the staff are lovely and the entertainment unbeatable. As long as the cabins are clean who cares! You don't spend long in them hopefully. So I am determined to enjoy it. Just hope the weather is better, it's gorgeous here in Oxford, sitting in the garden - very warm :) Linda
