lets just pray Thompson sort out the probs I feel sorry for the first set of passengers if they do come back and feel they have not got what they paid for, I find it terrible that the all the staff dont even have there uniforms ect that is basic stuff, but I am going to watch reviews with great interest if it is really bad surly Thompson have to do something for the thoudands of passinger who are booked on her for the rest of the summer, I know she is going for a makover in Nov but they must have a duty to provide what they are selling to the people who are going on her before that:(

Just out of interest (I don't have brochure to hand), is the Dream the same sort of pricing as the other ships? I know they are marketing it as 5* but are they offering price reductions being as it is new (& by the sounds of it not in the best condition) ?

Look forward to hearing the reviews soon....

No, quite the opposite. She was being sold at premium this year because she was a 5* luxury ship!

We are due to pay the balance for our cruise in May - cruising in July - if the basic problems such as AC / smelly rooms, haven't been sorted out, what are our chances of cancelling and having our deposit returned. I've holidayed with Thomson happily, for years but if they are not providing what is advertised there must be a case for referring to the Trades Description Act. Come on Thomson, don't let your loyal customers down. We were soooo looking forward to this cruise.

I think, if you look in the brochure, the prices are similar for all Thomson ships

Obviously not sure if the ship is better/worse than these early reports suggest, and we're sailing on her on 6th July, but maybe Thomson should be cut a little slack due to the travel problems earlier this month ? Could have delayed the despatch of uniforms and so on, and if the ship was diverted to assist shuttling stranded folk in Spain (or even just the staff, if not the ship itself) then time to fix issues or freshen up the cabins would have been lost.

No consolation for the early cruisers, but might be part of the reason ??

Ship did two runs from Palma to Barcelona with stranded passengers on the Mon /Tuesday and Tues/ Wednesday before the first cruise on the Thursday

It could be that some of the crew were not even on board but stranded somewhere between the Phillipines and Majorca.this could account for the restaurant closures and shortage of bar staff.

I would expect to see a steady improvement cruise on cruise this summer as the problems are sorted.

With respect Dave I don`t think the travel problems can be blamed for some of the problems on the earlier review.Thomson's and Costa could have worked together and let Thomson's tart up the inside and fix any other problems whilst the ship was in for repair in Palermo

We have booked our 1st ever cruise on the Dream, and already the Dream is becoming a Nightmare! I can't believe after all the hype in the brochure and the promotion video, it sounds as though we have made a massive mistake booking on the Dream.

We too were expecting 5* luxury on this "flag ship" boat. We've paid for 5* luxury and this is what we like from our holidays. We know how to enjoy ourselves in terms of drinking, joining in, etc, etc, but we like good food, good wine and excellent accomodation. I can't believe from what we've heard so far that we're already feeling ripped off days within days of handing over our hard earned thousands.

Depression's setting in.

i know the feeling grim isnt it? your right we have paid 5 STAR prices what can we do? julie

This was quoted way back 12/8/2009 ;)

TUI will be spending up to £5 million on new ship Thomson Dream after it takes delivery of the vessel in April next year.

TUI director of cruise David Selby said there will be 10 days after Thomson takes delivery of the ship for any immediate changes, to be followed by a six-week dry-dock in November 2010, by which time they will have been able to see what else needs to be done.

He said: "I want to see how the ship works for our passengers before we make any decisions. The first two cruises will be very important so I will be on board during that time."

Selby was speaking during a three-night mini-cruise for agents last week so they could see the ship, currently sailing as Costa Cruises' Costa Europa, before TUI takes delivery.

Thomson is taking the ship on a 10-year charter with the option to buy it after five years.

Selby said key changes he had identified during the cruise, which was his first chance to be on board while it was sailing, were the sound and lighting in the theatre and the over-bright lights in the dining room. He will also be looking at whether to relocate the kids and teens areas and reckons the large casino area would be better used for extra cabins.

He said: "It is mostly tweaks. What we like about this ship is the feeling of space in the public rooms and we will keep that."

Selby said Thomson Dream, plus the addition of Island Cruises' one ship, Island Escape, to the TUI stable, meant the group would be growing 40% in two years, with capacity for 280,000 passengers in 2010.

Island Cruises was a joint venture between First Choice and Royal Caribbean Cruises, but became wholly owned by TUI in October 2008, after the group, which had already merged with First Choice, bought out Royal Caribbean's 50% stake in the budget cruise line.

Selby said TUI will be spending some £4 million upgrading Island Escape over the next 13 months.

Pending more reviews, I'm still clinging to the hope that it's mainly teething troubles, and shortened time since the handover. Lack of staff, or not enough time for the staff to get up to speed, could certainly explain restaurants not being open, poorer bar staff service and the missing uniforms. The less-than-brilliant weather could take the shine off the outdoors experience.

Am a bit concerned about the air con issue- but as I'll be on AI, sure an extra cold beer or two will help !
