Joanandjoe Posted April 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2004 We loved our cruise on the Horizon last November (10 days to Panama), and would like to sail on her again during the first half of November. However, the Celebrity web site shows no cruises in November until 11/21. We would want to sail after 11/4, returning home no later than 11/22. (In other words, if there are 7 day cruises, we'd like to leave around 11/6 or 11/13.) Does anyone know where the Horizon will be sailing between 11/1 and 11/21? richsea Posted April 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I believe she is going into dry dock for mich of November for major refurbishment, including the addition of balconies to some staterooms. Joanandjoe Posted April 16, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted April 16, 2004 We hope they don't mess her up: she's a grand (not very) old lady. Since the time slot in our posting is the only one available, we'll have to find an alternative. The Constellation has nice Southern Caribbean cruises in November; but we're concerned about the large size of the ship. Frankly, the three major cruise line ships on which we've sailed (Horizon, Noordam, Rotterdam) all seemed overly large to us at 1,250 to 1,350 passengers; and the Connie has 1,950. We're NOT megaship people, and hate glitz.

PatC Posted April 16, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Actually, the Connie, Millie, Summit don't seem to have that many more passengers that you would notice. Try Century, Galaxy, etc. They're a little bigger but, again, not noticeably more people. The size shouldn't scare you. These are great ships and you should pick the trip you want to do, not for the ship but the places it goes. You shouldn't go wrong with any Celeb ship that I can think of. Enjoy. More than half the time we don't even get off in the ports and if we do it's only to run and pick up that one thing that we need to bring home (vanilla in Cozumel, Tiramisu liquer in St. Thomas, etc.). To us the ship is the most important part of the vacation. DocJohnB Posted April 16, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 16, 2004 I agree with Hajeckfam that for some people the SHIP is the destination. However, there are times when trying new things can change ones perspective. It would seem that joanandjoe have pretty much set the time frame for their cruise. If that is the case then there are a couple of options. See what the Zenith is doing at that time. Zenith and Horizon are virtual sisters. Or, see which of the Celebrity ships sails at that time and would fit into their cruise plans. Or, join us on a 10 day Caribbean jaunt on the Summit. We leave on 11/5 and return 11/15. This would fit most of joanandjoe's criteria. Date, length, and cruise line. Unfortunately, just not the ship. Joanandjoe Posted April 16, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted April 16, 2004 As Karen and Jim Hajek are aware, we've been pretty persistent about going on the Horizon. We were supposed to sail with them on the Horizon adults only cruise in Nevember 2002. We missed it due to Joe's health problems, so we sailed on the Horizon in November 2003 (after getting favorable reviews from the Hajeks and other CC people from the 11/02 cruise). We can't join Lois because a September vacation is not possible for us. If we could cruise then, we'd take the Zenith from NYC. As for the 11/5 Summit cruise mentioned by Doc John B, it is a possibility. We might also go upscale and take the Radisson Diamond 5 day cruise on 11/17, or maybe even a late season Windstar cruise in the Mediterranean. Choices, choices, choices. CaribbeanBound Posted April 17, 2004 #9 Share Posted April 17, 2004 Drydock for most of November is the official word. Details can be found in a couple other threads dealing with adding balconies to the Horizon. First cruise to follow drydock is 11-day Eastern Caribbean on Nov 29. toni1266 Posted April 24, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 24, 2004 My parents just got off the Horizon this morning. They had a wonderful time and loved the ship and crew. However, they had dinner with the staff captain on two occasions and he told them that the Horizon would be going into dry dock for major refurbishing at the cost of about twelve million dollars or they might sell her. That was the first I've heard of a possible sell. Don't know how they would replace her. Toni
