Gatguy Posted May 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2010 Are there facilities (computers) onboard to transfer pictures from your camera to a USB or CD for storage or do you have to buy the internet package to access the computers? Is there a cost if there are computers onboard? Any info will be appreciated.

It may be cheaper than going internet as the net can be slow and I know is expensive.
ieatchickens Posted May 20, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 20, 2010 I'm not so sure there is going to be access to a USB port. Here is a topic I searched for earlier when I had the same question as the OP http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=946396&highlight=computer

garycarla Posted May 20, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 20, 2010 You WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS to USB ports on the ships computers. They are locked up and out of sight. Buy a few memory chips. Cheap these days.
Gatguy Posted May 20, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted May 20, 2010 Thanks for all the information from everyone - I guess I will just purchase an extra 4GB memory disk for the camera to be on the safe side.
cliffd64 Posted May 20, 2010 #8 Share Posted May 20, 2010 Yes, additional removable memory would be your answer... There is no access to drives or ports of any type on the internet cafe computers.
fin Posted May 20, 2010 #9 Share Posted May 20, 2010 A little off-topic, but the reason that many people bring laptops is so that they can immediately transfer their pix from their camera. On one of my first cruises, several people lost ALL of their cruise photos, numbering in the hundreds, by a malfunction in their camera. For me the extra work in bringing a laptop pays off in being able to see, label, sort and catalogue my photos on a daily basis. Many newer laptops are very small and easy to carry. hftmrock Posted May 20, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 20, 2010 not sure if its cost effective but you could buy something like this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/415491-REG/Macally_SYNCBOX_SyncBox.html I have not tried this one but there are others out on the market. But it still might be cheaper to just but a bigger card. Just wanted to throw another option out there

I took a Flip video camera (great camera) because you can carry it in your pocket. I also too a external hard drive to transfer my video from the camera (it only records two hours of video). I was amazed when the computer manager on the ship told me that all the ships computers were secured so that you could not connect a external device or load data onto their machines. He suggested trying a internet cafe in St. Thomas. I found the cafe and they had the same policy. Maybe NCL has a different policy. I would call ahead to find out. Good luck. :)
CruiseAdict218 Posted May 21, 2010 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2010 They probably don't want all that memory on their computers so buying a extra memory card is the best way to go

Plus......you could have people that download offensive material that the next user could run into.
